Peyton Hillis

Granted these are from two years ago but I think they shouldn't have dropped that much.

Now this is all speculation at this point, but I'd really like a guy like Hillis on our team.  He lead the Donkey's in rushing 2008, now thats not saying much since it was only for 343 yards, but he did average 5 yards a carry and he was a rookie 7th round pick.  Another thing I like about him is his versatility, he played a lot of positions in College, FB,HB,WR,TE,KR, and PR.  I think that if we needed a complementary back for Charles he'd be the perfect match, could become our trick play guy, could take the helm if JC somehow gets injured, and pound the ball for short yardage from time to time.  I'm thinking we trade one of our 5ths for him.

What do you guys think?

I'd love to have Hillis

He could be a great pickup for us…

I'd Love To Have Him, But

The Broncos are extremely unlikely to trade him to a division rival.

i agree

rather take blount in the 6 or 7th or take toby gerhart in the 3rd or 4th

by cassel4prez on Feb 10, 2010 10:09 AM CST up reply actions

I like Gerhart a LOT

but, I wouldn’t touch Blount with a 10ft pole

* KC now has the best coaching staff in the league
* Pioli will make at least one trade in the offseason, and 2 trades during the draft
* I'd prefer "lightning and lightning" as opposed to "lightning and thunder" when it comes to RBs
* 9-7 is a real possibility in 2010 IF the Chiefs get 4 new starters

i disagree

Hillis has PROVEN he can play the game at the NFL level, he is extremely versatile… GREAT fit.

Who knows what you’ll get in the 5th round as a RB…and, NO, Matt… Blount would NOT be better, IMO

few opportunities

he’s averaging 5yds per carry,
when he did get a chance to start…he had a 129 yard game, a 74 yd game and a 58 yd game rushing, also had another game with 7 receptions for 116 yds
he had 5 TDs in only 82 touches.

I’m not saying he’s an All Pro RB… but when given a chance, he HAS produced.

exactly

HIV 2 ELWAY……he hasnt proven anything….343 yds behind denvers line and blocking scheme……Jackie battle could do that

on 68 carries... 5yd average

seriously, it’s not like he was a featured RB for a whole season

He’s a versatile FULLBACK who can also play tailback and return kicks.
he only started a couple games because of injuries

It doesn't matter what his stats were with only a handful of opportunities.

That doesn’t make a tract record. Nothing saying he didn’t do a good job with his limited opportunities. Just that he doesn’t have enough time to have formed an opinion about his abilites just yet. Even Jamaal could turn out to be a one hit wonder. We don’t know. Emmitt Smith, Priest Holmes, Chris Johnson, those guys have enough time on the job to have a reputation. Hillis is still an unproven commodity.

I agree that if he’s cheap and willing then why not. But I wouldn’t say anything beyond the fact that he didn’t screw up his few opportunities he has been given. Beyond that he is still very unproven. Takes time.

Unproven

but more proven than anyone we might draft.

but

great, even good players take advantage of their carries and PROVE they deserve more….obviously, he didn’t do that.

that said, i like hillis…but not more than a FB/ 3rd or 4th HB.

castille had a pretty good td catch, i’d like to see him a bit more this season.

how did he not prove himself 5ypc, 5tds?

he had a big role with the old coaching staff… the new staff didn’t have a role for him.

anyway… he’d be a good addition, but you’re right, he’d fill the same role Castille does with KC

Who?

Which player is better? Who is as versatile as Hillis, there are so many plays you can build around him that its a surprise how underutilized he is in Denver. He’s played like 10 different positions and could be our all-around kind of back. Blount won’t drop to the 5th, I can guarantee that, got to much talent in a body that doesn’t have a lot of mileage on it. Even if he punched someone i this face, I don’t really see that as a big factor. After him talent sort of drops, and there aren’t any proven guys like Hillis really around.

by Green-Monster on Feb 10, 2010 1:53 PM CST up reply actions

I don't know a ton about him myself. It seems by the reactions in here that he is a solid guy and would help us out.

I’m not opposed one ounce. I get excited when I hear things like this. Its just been so many years since anything has materialized for us. I hate to get my hopes up at times. He’s still a pretty much unknown commodity. If you guys have seen something in him that speaks beyond his current stats, then I’m open to that idea too.

Let’s just hope whatever happens, Pioli does the right thing this offseason.

by krayfish on Feb 10, 2010 5:32 PM CST up reply actions

they will not trade for him

no way we get him from a division rival, we would have better luck with getting Marshall, or Sheffler from them just because they are in the doghouse with McD. I didnt hear anything about Hillis this year when we were playing them.

I've been singing his praises for a LONG time

He would be a great addition, IMO.

They might even cut him… he didnt’ really see the field much last year at all

2 RB that I've liked

that’s not “all”

I like Charles, and think KC needs another RB like him

I like Stafon Johnson and Dexter McCluster in the draft as well.

so, yeah, it’s a coincidence.

what’s your issue with white RBs?

You could flip it...

White guy made it to being a starting half-back in the NFL — a sport dominated by us black folk.

He’s gotta be good, right?

i don't know

but, every time I mention Hillis or Gerhart, someone makes a racial comment about it.

I dont either...

Hillis is a good back he could be freakin pink and bright yellow for all I care . no need to bring in race it doesnt add anything to the convo right?

by tomahawk44 on Feb 10, 2010 10:39 AM CST up reply actions

Hillis is pretty damn good

if he would have gone to any other program instead of backing up McFadden & Jones at Arkansas, he would have probably been drafted much higher. I like him threefold more than I do Gerhart. I notice he didn’t get much playing time last year but I don’t think McDaniels would be foolish enough to cut him.

I want a Keith Byers type back...

We need someone that can block, run over people, and catch the ball out of the back field. Gerhart may make a nice compliment to JC in that regard. Not sure about Hillis, as I haven’t seen enough of him. Look out for Arkansas backs on the way up. They appear to be loaded with young talent.

by 12t on Feb 10, 2010 12:52 PM CST reply actions

what about Schieffler... of how ever his name is spelled.

he is another McD Cast off and i think he would be a great addition to KC. we need help at TE and for the right Price i think he is worth it.

by chief in colorado on Feb 10, 2010 1:32 PM CST reply actions

getting Denver to trade him to us (a division rival)

is near to impossible, unless we give them the deed to Arrowhead. I dont know anything about him except what he does to us, heard he was benched the last game, but trading with our division rival is likely to get us fleeced.

Love to have him

back in KC. If he finished his career here that’d be awesome, I think he’d rather join a team that is superbowl caliber(at least this year) than join us but who knows. He’s still good just he’s as old as my dad and definitely on the wrong side of 30

by Green-Monster on Feb 10, 2010 4:08 PM CST up reply actions

nope.....

this year they want to trade for Donavon Mcnabb. or at least that is what the local media wants. same story every year, the poor donkeys think they are one player from the superbowl. they will never tear it all down for fear that they will loose all support from local fans.

by chief in colorado on Feb 10, 2010 4:13 PM CST reply actions

Retarts

Why would you get rid of Brandon Marshall and then trade a draft pick for McNabb? They have a good o-line, and some promising guys on defense. They need to draft a freakin’ QB in Round 1, not waste a pick trading for McNabb – as soon as the weather gets cold, his knees will fall apart, and they’ll be back to Ol’ Neckbeard sans the one or two picks they gave for Chunky Soup Man.

i'd rather

pick up LT and have him torch up the chargers when we play them!

You're a goddamn quarterback! You know what that means? It's the top spot, kid. It's the guy who takes the fall. It's the guy everybody's looking at first - the leader of a team - who will support you when they understand you. Who will break their ribs and their noses and their necks for you, because they believe. 'Cause you make them believe. That's a quarterback.
