Chiefs S Jarrad Page Getting Healthy;

Kansas City Chiefs S Jarrad Page was placed on injured reserve on November 4th prematurely ending his season. According to his Twitter page, the calf that landed him on IR is feeling great.

jus finished running 3 300yrd shuttles 2 200yrd shuttles and 10 100s. Feels refreshing running at night. I'm back!! Calf is great people!!

And a little later:

Jus left 24hr fitness. Wrkout was a beast!! I didn't know the stairmaster had a level 11.

He's coming off of a season in which he was tendered a one year contract. Since it's only his third year, he'll be a restricted free agent meaning the Chiefs can control his rights.

A 7th round draft pick, Page has been a bright spot for the Chiefs in three years of duty.

Sign the man.

We’ll field Mike Brown, but we’re debating whether or not to give one of our best Safeties a contract extension. Seriously?

Put him and Eric Berry (hey, dreams do come true — just ask New Orleans) on the field and see how fast our secondary improves.

Really Page best safety???

Do you not remember all of the blown coverages Page had early in the season? I don’t remember him making plays this past season. Everyone can have a down year, and Page has definately outplayed his draft position, but he isn’t our best safety on the team.

Mike Brown did make mistakes early in the season… he also made many big plays. The big drawback to Mike Brown is his age, and that he is injury prone. I believe this past season was the first, maybe second that he played the whole season.

Go Chiefs!!!!

actually, not statistically differen than Pollard

* KC now has the best coaching staff in the league
* Pioli will make at least one trade in the offseason, and 2 trades during the draft
* I'd prefer "lightning and lightning" as opposed to "lightning and thunder" when it comes to RBs
* 9-7 is a real possibility in 2010 IF the Chiefs get 4 new starters

if you factor in attitude and leadership...

:)

anyway… moving on…

Last time I checked Bernard Pollard doesn't play for the Chiefs.

I’m glad that letting him go lit a fire up his butt…

Pollard in 08… 98 Tackles 1 int 4 fumbles and a multitude of missed tackles.
Pollard in 09… 103 Tackles 4 int 1 fumble 1.5 safety and a multitude of missed tackles (less but still a problem). I believe he also returned on of the interceptions for a TD.

Brown in 09… 103 Tackles 3 int 2 sacks, 1 safety and a multitude of missed tackles.

Looks to me like they put up similar stats overall. and I was wrong… Mike Browns first 4 years he started every year, it was the subsequent years that he has been injury prone.

Go Chiefs!!!!

by ravenhawk on Feb 9, 2010 2:49 PM CST up reply actions

Let's add to that:

Games Played:
Pollard – 13
Brown – 16
( Pollard accrued similar stats to Brown in 81.25% of the games played. )

Snaps Played:
Pollard – 840
Brown – 1107
( Pollard accrued similar stats to Brown in 75.88% of snaps played. )

Yards allowed per completion:
Pollard – 12.1
Brown – 23.8
( Brown allowed 96% more yards per completion than Pollard did, despite Pollard being the ‘most burned’ Safety in the league. )

Page

has really outplayed his draft position. How long was his rookie contract for?

So full of sh*t that toilet bowls have to wipe.

by IISaiNtII on Feb 9, 2010 12:25 PM CST reply actions

Is it just me?

That seems like a rediculously short rookie contract. I know he was a 7th round pick and all, but it still seems odd. shrugs

by Archyrr on Feb 9, 2010 12:36 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah

a 2 year rookie deal? Doesn’t seem right, I thought they signed the 2nd day picks for longer than the 1st day guys…

At any rate, He’ll still be a RFA then, right?

So full of sh*t that toilet bowls have to wipe.

by IISaiNtII on Feb 9, 2010 12:40 PM CST up reply actions

Yup, RFA.

Seemed like Pioli liked 4-5 year deals if I remember last year right. Of course, Page was signed under the King. Perhaps he thought signing the new guys to what basically amounts to an interview would make up for signing the customer listing from the AARP to contracts that sound more like mortgages.

move Page

If we picked up Berry…how do you guys think Page will do at strong safety. I mean the guy is 225 and listed as 1 lb. heavier than Pollard.

by MasterBlaster7 on Feb 9, 2010 12:36 PM CST reply actions

I've been saying that for awhile.

He’d need to take his tackling seriously…that’s been an issue of his for awhile. if I remember scouting reports correctly, he was viewed as a playmaker with average to below average speed (for FS), a thick body, and above average instincts…The speed issue is what lowered his draft grade I believe.

I think that his “avergae” speed is an asset at SS—again, if his tackling and angles to the ball improve—and that his instincts and overall skill set could really serve us well there.

Besides, could his tackling really be worse than it has been at SS over the last three, four years?

Good News

Can’t wait to see J Page laying people out again.

by SFLChief on Feb 9, 2010 12:49 PM CST reply actions

Page

This will be interesting… when he’s healty again, will he reassert himself as a starter?

If not, Safety is a huge need to be filled.

If so, that could point the draft focus more to LBs

KEEP HIM!.....

We already got rid of Pollard, I don’t care what anyone says, he was(IS) good. In my opinion, Page is the best we have now to play safety. GIVE HIM A long contract, draft Berry at #5 and the Chiefs front office will look smart…!

your avatar looks awesome

is that a Chiefs jersey? AND BOOBS?

I was happy to see Pollard go as our Starting Safety

I think we could have gotten him into rotation as a linebacker and backup safety, but I don’t think his attitude would have worked with that

by groundedchevy on Feb 9, 2010 4:32 PM CST up reply actions

He stays

I see a better Page with Thomas help and being healthy. SS is the real need.

Is someone actually defending the play of Mike Brown this year? are they a Chief fan, or a fan of a rival that just wants us to keep playing Brown?

Hurt vs. Injured

The problem that J. Page will face is that he may have ended up on the wrong side of the perception battle.

We’re all football fans and are completely aware of the “Are you hurt or are you injured?” question as it applies to football players.

Whatever the facts may be, I’ve got a strong feeling that J. Page has ended up on the wrong side of this perception in the eyes of the coaching staff and front office.

I’d be surprised if he’s back as more than a backup/special teamer. If we get a tender for him… he’s gone!
