Letter From Chiefs Great Derrick Thomas 10 Years Ago
This was a letter the late Kansas City Chiefs great Derrick Thomas wrote two days before he died on February 6th, 2000. It comes from Josh Looney of KCChiefs.com:
I wish that there were enough words in the human language to express my sincere gratitude and heartfelt thanks for all of the well wishes, cards, letters, words of encouragement and prayers that I have received. I would also like to thank everyone who has made donations to my Third and Long Foundation, as well as anyone who has made a donation on my behalf to Spinal Cord Injury Research.
I wish that I could thank each and every one of you individually, but that would be nearly impossible.
I would also like everyone to know that I am going to be just fine. Please continue to keep me in your prayers, because an old friend of mine has told me, "When prayers go up, blessings are sure to come down."
Sincerely,
Derrick Thomas
Today marks the 10 year anniversary of DT and I'm proud of the way this city, and especially the Chiefs, haven't forgotten his legacy.

horrible horrible event
To this day, this franchise has not been the same. It’s always the feeling that something is missing. I love watching his highlights.
So in today’s game he would be a 4-3 de? 3-4 outside lb?

KC Chiefs Fan
He'd be back to an outside LB
which is what he played when he first got here. If I remember right we were in a 3-4 weren’t we? I didn’t think we switched to the 4-3 until around 92 or so.
Strange, I looked over this post and it still makes me sad. Hard to believe it has been 10 years.
Insert witty yet thought provoking phrase here.
That's what I was thinking.
I looked all over, but couldn’t find a listing of when we switched around the D.
10 years.....
DT will always be remembered not just for his outstanding play on the field, but for his outstanding community work. He was a class act and will always be missed.
When it happened
I wrote DT a letter and mailed off a copy and also emailed it to. It basically said that he was my hero and how much he mention to as a Chief and a person. I got a reply back from him which is what is posted up top but just 2 days later he passed. It was hard, the one and I’m sure only time I will cry for someone I have never met.
We miss you Derrick.

Man, I was 22 when he left us.
God bless DT, being a kid watching him play, brought happier times to my troubled life. I never really knew how much he meant to me until that day. Life is too short and I’m still in mourning. They say time heals all wounds………. Well, its been 10 years and I still tear up. Here’s to the greatest falcon linebacker I have ever seen. DT, I’m still “Ur#1fan!”
