Chiefs Meet With A Pair Of Tight Ends At The NFL Combine
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end position has been talked about more than the majority of franchises in the last year because of the departing of soon-to-be Hall of Famer Tony Gonzalez. Since he left, the Chiefs have been kind of lost at tight end. Chiefs GM Scott Pioli talked about the tight end position -- and recognized it as a "need" -- according to Arrowhead Pride's Matt Conner.
"Tight end is definitely one of the many positions we need to get better at this year and improve the talent -- both the frontline talent and the depth," Pioli said.
He also called it this a "strong tight end group" so it doesn't surprise me that the Chiefs have been checking out tight ends at the NFL Combine, according to Scout.com.
The Chiefs had a formal interview with Pittsburgh TE Dorin Dickerson. He's 6'1", 222 pounds and has experience at fullback as well. He's expected to be drafted around the 5th round. Here's some more information on him.
The Raiders, the Cowboys, the 49ers, the Lions, the Bengals, the Ravens and the Cardinals are some of the teams he's interviewed with.
The Chiefs also had an informal chat with USC TE Anthony McCoy. The 6'5", 249 pound tight end was academically ineligible for the USC bowl game. He's projected to go around the 4th round. Here's some more information on him.
He had nine formal interviews last night but also talked informally with the Bengals, Seahawks, Browns, Falcons, Saints and Rams

McCoy sounds okay
just has a history of missing sessions and being academically ineligible is not a good thing.
Regardless of who the Chiefs pick at #5 overall, Whitlock will call it the worst pick in the history of the Chiefs. Heres to hoping that #5 pick runs Whitlock out of town.....
I 2nd that.
Hes very athletic, and can catch anything. He’ll be our Antonio Gates.

Hmm
I’m not sold on either of those guys. Dickerson is in no way shape or form a TE. He will be a FB.
I like Aaron Hernandez. Dude is gonna be a machine in the NFL. He is too fast for LB and too strong for safeties. He reminds me of Tony G.

+1
But would like to spend in the 4th and 5th for a TE. Think he may be a luxury we can’t afford.

I get what your saying and agree
But a dynamic TE can do wonders for an offense. Tony G made us so hard to defend.
When you have the RB, WR, and TE as weapons your options are endless.

Dickerson
He could be as much a TE as Frank Wycheck was. He’s solidly built, strong for his size, and reminds me of a young Dallas Clark. Of course, Clark took years to develop into the threat he is today, but…well, there you have it. Of course Clark went in the first round, while Dickerson is not likely to go in the first three. I think a 5th for Dickerson would be a very worthwhile “risk.”
I guess Hernandez is okay, but the projections of the early 2nd have me scratching my head.
I have beat wholesale ass for a whole lot less.

Maybe...
we should sign Ben Watson (don’t overpay though) and draft a guy with huge upside like Moeaki out of Iowa. They must really want to fix the TE position this year. Honestly, I know its a big hole, but I thought it was one where we didn’t have the luxury to fill this offseason because of our other problems on the roster.
Draft prediction top 10 - 1. Bradford 2. Suh (Chiefs trade up) 3. McCoy 4. Claussen (trade Campbell to Carolina, trade for J Brown) 5. Okung (Detroit) 6. Berry 7. Haden 8. Campbell 9. Davis (Bills trade for Vick) 10. Morgan (Jags draft Tebow in 2nd round) 2/23/09
They are probably
looking at Dickerson as a fullback, lord knows we need one of those and it helps in the passing game to have a fullback that played TE.
Man, I sure miss Tony Rich.
If its a Fullback we’re lookin for… Thats a great way to start the search.
i like tony moiaki
But I live in iowa so my choice is selfish.

When he's not injured, he's pretty awesome

Like Matty G, I like Aaron Hernandez
My bold prediction and I think our best chance at moving down in the 1st. Bret Favre retires, Tavarris Jackson is not retained or leaves and the Vikings trade up, with our beloved Chiefs, for Jimmy Claussen.
WRITE IT DOWN!
I still have high hopes for Cottam
He’s big & looks pretty fluid/athletic for a 6’7" guy. It’s too bad he fell on his spine, I’d liked to have seen him in action over the final few games.
Predictions:
This year will be better
I'm surprised I thought they would like OT who played TE...
…as for Cottam i thin he’d be crazy to play after that type surgery.
