The Kansas City Chiefs need a Gut check. Yes, Right up the middle. Same as when the season ended at Denver, a fantastic win and promised a lot of things the Chiefs have to deliver on in 2010. Yet, we pussyfoot around on what it will take to step up another rung of the NFL ladder in 2010. Five spots IMO.
Ron Edwards is not a starting 3-4 NT and might only be serviceable as a backup.
Corey Mays is not a 3-4 ILB starter in the NFL and might only be serviceable as a backup.
Mike Brown is not a Safety that should be starting in the NFL anymore, but is a very adequate fill-in at the SS spot.
Mike Vrabel is not the 3-4 OLB that we need, again serviceable, but does not pressure the QB enough to help Hali.
Rudy Niswanger is not stout enough to perform the Center spot against the NT's and DT's we face every Sunday.
We can talk personnel spots all day but it is the individual in those spots we are referencing. Everyone of these guys at least last year were starting material in the NFL because the Chiefs started them. If the Chiefs want to progress we don't need to fill spots around these guys to make them better, we need to find better players to fill these spots and make the best players we already have shine.
