Al Woods Could Complete Chiefs All-LSU Defensive Line

Here's an idea: The Kansas City Chiefs should draft Al Woods.

Why?

He's a defensive tackle from LSU that some folks have projected as a nose tackle.

If Woods were to become a Chief, and get into the line-up at nose tackle, the Chiefs could be running an All-LSU defensive line with Glenn Dorsey and Tyson Jackson at each defensive end.

Okay, Woods isn't exactly tabbed as "the answer" at the next level. The 6'4", 315 pound defensive tackle is projected on the high end as a 6th round pick and on the low end an undrafted free agent.

During the 2009 season, the Chiefs had Marlon Favorite, another LSU defensive tackle, on the roster.

We must get this guy

from the pic, he clearly knows how to signal 1st down at inappropriate times. He’ll fit right in.

This is my signature line. It is full of awesome and win.

I've about had it with LSU.

My long, drawn-out predictions that no one cares about, nor will bother to remember:

1. Todd Haley will still be the Chiefs Head Coach up to the 2011 season.
2. Clancy Pendergast won't make it to the 2010 season and was never intended to. Last-minute hire for a position that needed to be filled.
3. Todd Haley will not be the OC at the start of the 2010 season.

yea we need to start looking somewhere else for our 1st overall picks from now on!

like maybe uhh Alabama, and McClain.

Regardless of who the Chiefs pick at #5 overall, Whitlock will call it the worst pick in the history of the Chiefs. Heres to hoping that #5 pick runs Whitlock out of town.....

Why do so many of you have an irrational fear of players from LSU, New England and Arizona?

IF they are good players and they fit…. bring em in.
IF not… don’t

why the hell should we care where they come from?

* KC now has the best coaching staff in the league
* Pioli will make at least one trade in the offseason, and 2 trades during the draft
* I'd prefer "lightning and lightning" as opposed to "lightning and thunder" when it comes to RBs
* 9-7 is a real possibility in 2010 IF the Chiefs get 4 new starters
* keep Albert at LT, upgrade the positions that NEED upgrading.C, RG, NT, S, LB

Because people like to judge defensive linemen after their first season.

Not like it took Haynesworth 5 years before he got it at DT.

The first 3 picks of the draft will be defense. Pioli loves him some defense.

I don't have a fear of Arizona and New England.

But sometimes it seems like the current regime has the blinders on the other 29 teams when chosing available players.

LSU is a different story.
I had this discussion over at Oaklands Blog about staying away from LSU Players. Look at some recent picks. Bowe, Dorsey, Jamarcus and now TJ have had their work ethic question either directly or saying they need to “step up”. The only common denominator is the school. Right or wrong, recent LSU grads have relied on natural talent rather than working hard. The NFL is too damn competitive to not work your ass off. You might not work at it, but rest assured, the guy lining up across from you is.

Have to agree with you for the first time ever

I like how people just sum up a whole group of guys from the same winning university and label them as lazy-asses. Hey I’m sure somebody would love to take Dwayne Bowe and Glen Dorsey off your hands if you don’t want them

by chiefnyc on Feb 24, 2010 11:07 AM CST up reply actions

Jackson and Dorsey absolutely have been questioned

Dorsey came to training camp overweight. Jackson was personally challenged this offseason by Haley. Haley said obvsiously the game didn’t come as easy as he might have anticipated and he’ll have to work like hell this offseason to improve. Buuuuut, I can’t find the link.

So Your Opinion of LSU Is...

that LSU stands for…

Lazy, Stupid, and Underachieving??

Things to get the Chiefs back on the winning side of football:

1. Haley resign as offensive coordinator or do the following;
a. Feed JC more
b. Take the cuffs off of Cassel and let him air it out
2. Fire Clancy "Calls" Playslikeass

He had a leg issue (knee?), that can make it difficult to stay in tip top shape.

Especially for a pretty big dude. So it’s not really fair to knock him for being out of shape. This isn’t Mike Williams we’re talking about here.

I'm agreeing that the criticism is un-just....

…I’ve seen my two favorite teams make drastic makeovers. The Huskers WERE the Chiefs before Pelini came in and whipped them into shape, a bunch of underarchievers. Haley has done the same and the guys who worked their butts off are still here and those that didn’t weren’t part of “the right 53”. Just because a guy wasn’t in shape enough for Haley doesn’t mean they weren’t in shape enough for Edwards.

Pelini and Haley

All season we listened to those amongst us crying that Haley was too tough, yelled too much, etc. It was pretty funny that in Colorado game (I think), the Huskers were kicking their ass but gave up a meaningless touchdown late in the game. Bo went right over to his older brother (DC) and chewed his ass apparently for giving up the TD. Hilarious.

I like Haley and Pelini. Whip those players into shape mentally and physically.

The same has been said about Texas players but there are exceptions such as JC.

Miami was Thug U but alot of great players came from that era. You can’t rely on a preceived “reputation”.

Oh Gosh!

Please give this a break. I dont care if the guy if from Ukraine, as long as he can play ball.

The SEC just happens to be a hot bed for NFL talent. LSU just happened to have some guys that we wanted. Thats it nothing else to it. Next few years it might be Florida or Alabama.

Tyson Jackson could have played for anyone….Pioli wanted him not his credentials.

Plus our DLine is very young and had a bad coaching staff to learn from. We can start judging them from this next season forward. We have a top notch DC with a Dline coaching history.

Even then I'd be hesitant

to trade Dorsey, who showed improvement at DE as the year progressed, for someone who has never played a down of professional football.

by PVChiefsfan on Feb 24, 2010 1:01 PM CST up reply actions

Depends on $

If we can trade Dorsey for a “prototypical” 3-4 DE and save a boat-load of money, I’m for it. Going into an uncapped year, KC will have way less money to spend than other teams so we need to be much more budget-conscious. If we don’t save much money, than heck no we don’t trade Dorsey. He showed improvement last year and wasn’t bad in his rookie year either.

by Chiefs4Life on Feb 24, 2010 2:04 PM CST up reply actions

Dorsey...

is a very good football player and I believe he is everything he was hyped to be. However, I know I’m beating a dead horse, but he is out of position. The only reason he hasn’t looked bad at playing a DE in a 3-4 is because he is such a good player. It would be better for him and the Chiefs if we traded him this offseason. We could replace him with a player more apt for a 3-4 end as well as pick up another piece to the puzzle. And they whole Dorsey out of shape debate didn’t take into account that he got his act together immediately when he got to camp and won favor with the coaches.

Draft prediction top 10 - 1. Bradford 2. Suh (Chiefs trade up) 3. McCoy 4. Claussen (trade Campbell to Carolina, trade for J Brown) 5. Okung (Detroit) 6. Berry 7. Hayden 8. Campbell 9. Davis (Bills trade for Vick) 10. Morgan (Jags draft Tebow in 2nd round) 2/23/09
