interesting...

Denver is dumping zb… so, it makes sense…

He may be a better fit than Mawae

* KC now has the best coaching staff in the league
* Pioli will make at least one trade in the offseason, and 2 trades during the draft
* I'd prefer "lightning and lightning" as opposed to "lightning and thunder" when it comes to RBs
* 9-7 is a real possibility in 2010 IF the Chiefs get 4 new starters
* keep Albert at LT, upgrade the positions that NEED upgrading.C, RG, NT, S, LB

why not?

bring him back and see what he can do… i’m sure it wouldn’t cost much

by bigknoxy on Feb 23, 2010 4:31 PM CST reply actions

Mawae is about 4 years older than Casey

by Risktaker on Feb 23, 2010 4:31 PM CST via mobile reply actions

I think I saw Casey was 37 so only 2 years older, but Mawae has played at a higher level longer

I think Mawae’s drop-off due to age would be down to Casey’s level in his prime

He was HORRIBLE here in his final year. He flat out quit. Want no part of him when he’s in retirement/grab money mode.

by dablueguy on Feb 23, 2010 4:32 PM CST reply actions

He is great at the ZB scheme.

I wouldn’t mind seeing him as a stopgap but, we still need to draft a guy. He is only one year removed from a pro-bowl season and could help us in 2010.

by Chiefsfan1970 on Feb 23, 2010 4:33 PM CST reply actions

If we can get him cheap ...

Go for it.

Sign him to a one or two year contract at or near the veteran minimum just to get him into camp for competition for the other guys.

If he’s great, great. If he’s not, we cut him and move on with someone else.

by JacinB on Feb 23, 2010 4:36 PM CST reply actions

Isn’t KC switching to a ZB Scheme? He would bring in very good knowledge to the younger guys.

by DizzyKC on Feb 23, 2010 4:59 PM CST reply actions

I believe we already run the ZB scheme

I agree, Weigmann could be a good stop gap for a year or two

yep... the switch was made when Gailey was fired, I think

Question

Did the Broncos start to change last season or just for the upcoming season away from Z-B scheme. Maybe Clady doesn’t fit the power scheme as well as Z-B?

i think they made the decision at the start of the off-season.

yep, changing this upcoming season

my question is...

why? that O-Line was their strength. unlike haley, McD actually inherited some pretty awesome pieces.

by bansky on Feb 23, 2010 5:06 PM CST up reply actions

They did lose there ZB guru to Houston I think

Haley seems to be the Odd Duck running the ZB scheme in the Patriots and others system.

Has Weis made any reference to continuing the ZB scheme yet?

that makes sense.

i think KC got the right guy in Haley. McD is kind of confusing.

Cuz

Mcnugget has absolutely no clue what he is doing

I thought Knowsean Moreno would be perfect for the zone-blocking scheme, I guess I was wrong.

My bold prediction and I think our best chance at moving down in the 1st. Bret Favre retires, Tavarris Jackson is not retained or leaves and the Vikings trade up, with our beloved Chiefs, for Jimmy Claussen.

WRITE IT DOWN!

by BigRedChief on Feb 23, 2010 5:04 PM CST up reply actions

Nope

That’s why they drafted him…all through college his strength was one cut and go.

correct me if i'm wrong

but didn’t he leave on bad terms?

You're a goddamn quarterback! You know what that means? It's the top spot, kid. It's the guy who takes the fall. It's the guy everybody's looking at first - the leader of a team - who will support you when they understand you. Who will break their ribs and their noses and their necks for you, because they believe. 'Cause you make them believe. That's a quarterback.

not sure... but IF SO...

he was on bad terms with guys that aren’t here anymore

I dont believe he did

from what I remember Herm just got rid of him cuz he thought he was too old

by badassz1987 on Feb 23, 2010 6:17 PM CST up reply actions

Casey

Was with the Jets for a couple seasons with Haley. I would grab him up in a second.

The Zone blocking scheme is all about technique and unison. I believe Casey could teach these guys a thing or two.
He was part of a very good Denver line.

exactly!
The Zone blocking scheme is all about technique and unison

that’s why I wouldn’t draft a new LT and try to shift everyone else around :)

ok… done with that argument for now!

Yes

And think about it. Brandon Albert is a guy who everyone says would be better as a guard. If you have a LT that has the agility of a guard, that is perfect for a ZB LT. A guy who can swing out and take on a LB or keep the double team.

I think Albert and Waters are a great duo for ZB. We need that Center to pull it all together. We could actually make due with our current guys to fill RG and RT. I just want some young depth to be drafted to develop in this scheme to take over in a year or two.

Power Blocking

Does this mean the Donks will be targeting Pouncey?

by Kane on Feb 23, 2010 9:10 PM CST reply actions

Good question

That would make sense but I think they have a young guy to take over at Center.

not from the depth charts I've seen

Lichtensteiger was the young guy: cut in September. AFAIK, Ben Hamilton 32, career back-up is only Center on their roster. Their discussing Center draft prospects over on the MHR.

Casey > Rudy

I like them both. But on his worst day, Casey is better than Rudy on his best day. He would be worth it, if only for a year or two…until our Center “of the future” is identified.

Good luck to Casey wherever he goes, though. I’ve met him a couple of times…and he’s a good guy.
