well...
guess he joins LT, Shawn Alexander…and every other 28-31 year old RB dumped by his original team
Vince Wilfork will be Scott Pioli's top offseason priority and will be a Chief.
KC Will Trade Derrick Johnson=
Saw That Coming
He was a wreck last year and making way too much money for the role he’d have had this season.
You know, if LT or Westbrook can’t make a roster in 2010 (which is very possible), that’s going to be one hell of a Hall of Fame class in five years.

That's a bit of a shocker.
I wonder if it’s time to retire. Multiple concussions aren’t anything to mess around with.
Too bad though, when he was good, he was VERY good.
Note to Carl Pederson. Over the hill RB’s are supposed to be cut, not given crippling extentions to.

LJs salary was hardly crippling
It made resigning JA much more difficult, true. And it was a bad signing, but I wouldn’t say “crippling”
400+ carries is crippling.
My bold prediction and I think our best chance at moving down in the 1st. Bret Favre retires, Tavarris Jackson is not retained or leaves and the Vikings trade up, with our beloved Chiefs, for Jimmy Claussen.

?
I agree that is bad, but that hardly has to do with contracts
Sure it does. History has shown when you run a guy into the ground....
….he is never the same. So that fat extension you gave him before or after the fact becomes a bad value contract. 400+ carries seems to end careers.

I agree
If my RB just ran 400 times on the last year of his contract….buh bye now…(waves)…have a nice time eating someone elses cap space.

Wow
I can’t wait to see all of Philly freak out now.
I Think They'll Be Okay
LeSean McCoy showed some real promise last year when Westbrook was out.

Yep, they won't skip a beat. They've been getting it done without him for a while.

Surprising without being surprising.
Don’t think Westbrook will suit up again.
So full of sh*t that toilet bowls have to wipe.
LeSean McCoy = Good keeper now
Why did I drop him in one league…NOOO
ouchhhh
Vince Wilfork will be Scott Pioli's top offseason priority and will be a Chief.
KC Will Trade Derrick Johnson=
I decided holding onto Donald Brown instead of McCoy
Its ok though, I have Charles and a few other decent choices
In a backup role...
I don’t see this as that much of a concern

Yes
because Michael Bennet worked out SOOO well, lol.
So full of sh*t that toilet bowls have to wipe.
Michael Bennett
He isn’t even close to the same back as Westbrook. I don’t remember Bennett ever having a 1000 yard season (I could be wrong on that)

You are completely wrong
but that’s ok since you contradicted yourself in your own post.
So full of sh*t that toilet bowls have to wipe.
Yep, I was gonna say Minnesota in 2002.

One year...
After that he never broke 500 yards…

Don't think he was ever a starter after that either.
That was his lone pro-bowl year as well…
So full of sh*t that toilet bowls have to wipe.
And my comment wasn't
about whether he was as good as Westbrook, he wasn’t ever. But once the injuries start, you don’t usually come back stronger.

Unless you're the Bionic Man.... We have the technology.

Could be a nice pickup
For a team with an established RB like us.
Sign him to a one year deal. Make him a situational back that gets 2-3 carries a game and comes in a few times on passing downs.
He did still average 4.5 ypc last season.
The guys legs still carry him very well.

I think Charles is worth more on passing downs at this point.
His speed alone ranks him above Westbrook. Brian’s hands are good, but not so much so that we’d supplant Jamaal’s ability to take it to the house.
I dunno if he’d even consider coming to a losing team to get a small handful of carries a game. I’d think he’d be crossing his fingers that a contender scoops him up for a passing down back…maybe NE?

But I think the point is youre trying to limit reps with Charles
Yes, he is effective on third down and can be used there often. But I would prefer to not be forced into that situation by having a great backup that can also be effective in the same role
Your right on
About Jamaal! I want the ball in his hands 95% of the time….but we all know that would be foolish. It would end him.
JC has to get some rest time. We need a guy in there to keep the flow going. I’m not saying Westbrook would be number 2 back, just a special weapon of mass confusion for the defense.
You are right again though about him coming here. It would take some major convincing and some over valued contract.

Yes, it would shorten his career terribly.
I just don’t know if Westbrook’s the answer. I’m a huge Westbrook fan, and have been for years. I just think he’s a slower, more oft injured version of what we already have. I’d rather we pick up a bruiser-back if we’re going to supplant Charles in certain situations.
If we’re going to scoop up another RB, I’d prefer a younger guy that we can slowly groom into taking Charles’ spot. RB’s are short-lived nowadays, so you’ve always got to be looking for the next guy.

That's why I'm in favor of signing a guy like Chester Taylor.
He has alot of tread left on the tires and JC could split time with him. Then address RBOF (runningback of the future) in next years draft when (hopefully) the needs for this team aren’t so great. Taylor closes out his career, JC prolongs his and we have a youngster primed and ready to split time with JC as he closes out his career and so on and so on.

Chester Taylor
I love Taylor…it just isnt going to happen IMO. He will either be a starter or stay with the Vikes
by groundedchevy on Feb 23, 2010 1:36 PM CST up reply actions
At the same time
We don’t have much money invested in RB and maybe he will want a bigger contract than the Vikes are willing to give.
by groundedchevy on Feb 23, 2010 1:36 PM CST up reply actions
I think the Vikes will take the stance of....
….“We have AP and you can stay at a discounted rate.” Not to mention, I don’t know how thier cap is looking (as if that matters) but they have alot of high profile contracts on the books. Did Sid “Vicious” Rice get re-upped? That’s gonna be a big one. They may not have the funds or the want to re-sign a backup runningback.

That's a signing I really like.
Sure-handed, experienced RB who can bruise the ball over the line. Yet, not limited to running strictly between the tackles.
He actually reminds me a little of LJ when he ran angry. He’s not afraid to run over you.

I think it would make the backfield one of the top "all-purpose" tandems in the league.

It could.
That said, a starting job is probably what he’ll want. Then again, he’d get quite a few carries for us.

Yep, I think we could offer him more carries than the Vikes....
….The league will catch onto JC eventually and we will need another RB to insert when JC can’t get it going. Chester can be similar in style to JC but also isn’t too bad of a change of pace, grin-it-out back.

wow
Tomlinson, Chester Taylor, & Westbrook. All are good backs still. too bad we need a haus Heyward type or I’d take any of them for a 10-15 carry a game guy
Tough times never last, but tough people do.
less and less craig ironhead heyward type backs.
Vince Wilfork will be Scott Pioli's top offseason priority and will be a Chief.

More and more bonehead type players.

Arena league is gonna be great this year
stacked with over the hill semi retired talent
Blame my wife!
Waiting until August 2010
I can't believe what I'm saying
Lj was signed for 1 year with cincinnati. I know I’m probally going to chiefs hell for this but he is a big-bruiser. We could take him back for the change of pace

No
Never.
I would demand Pioli and Haley be fired immediately if they even considered it.

Ya he’s a major dick but he had a 100yrd game so we know he has a little left in the tank.

and what?
Just, to hell with priest’s record?
by motrepip on Feb 23, 2010 6:11 PM CST via mobile up reply actions
I wouldn't want to even concider that jerk
I could however come up with a hilaroius list of people who I would rather see carry the rock for the chiefs.
by motrepip on Feb 23, 2010 6:18 PM CST via mobile up reply actions
He Has Nothing Left In The Tank
He got 11 yards against our crappy defense and zero TDs on the year. His best game of the year came against a pathetic Cleveland team and that accounted for his only good game of the year.
And he should remain behind Priest Holmes on the Chiefs rushing list…forever. Just because I know it eats at him because of how much he hated Priest Holmes.

Good for Philly
This one could be seen coming from about a thousand miles away. FWIW, same goes for the LT thing.
Braccae illae virides cum subucula rosea et tunica Caledonia-quam elenganter concinnatur!
I think the days of super highly paid RB's
is gone for many years to come. Short careers, brutal potential for injury and the current trend towards RB by committee will see to it.
Braccae illae virides cum subucula rosea et tunica Caledonia-quam elenganter concinnatur!
Their Careers Are About The Same Length As Ever
Westbrook, LT, Larry Johnson, Shaun Alexander and the rest all followed predictable career progressions for their age and/or usage. There will still be highly paid running backs in the future, same as there ever were, it’s just that backs of that caliber are rare and I think you’ll see fewer primary backs over the next few years.

I think Le'Ron McClain is a RFA
We need a guy like that. Play RB or FB. Maybe a 4th or so for him.
