"You know why it's 90 percent set now? Because guys go to the Scouting Combine and they change their grade on a player based on things that have nothing to do with playing football. I'm convinced if you took the stopwatches away from a lot of these guys, most of 'em would not be able to tell you whether they liked a player or not.

I think Pioli has made it very clear that he views the Combine as a very small piece of a much, much bigger puzzle.
Here’s hoping that OTHER teams aren’t has keen on that, as he. ;)
My long, drawn-out predictions that no one cares about, nor will bother to remember:
1. Todd Haley will still be the Chiefs Head Coach up to the 2011 season.
2. Clancy Pendergast won't make it to the 2010 season and was never intended to. Last-minute hire for a position that needed to be filled.
3. Todd Haley will not be the OC at the start of the 2010 season.
It's how all job interviews work these days
You get a stack of 100 resumes, you sort by GPA (40 times) or some other metric and pick the top 5 for interview. It is arbitrary and you’ll miss some great people but it will probably average out ok.
Blame my wife!
Waiting until August 2010

The combine isn’t something to take lightly either.

It's An NFL Draft Tradition
Every year someone rockets up the chart because of Mike Mamula Syndrome (good combine workout) and gets drafted way too early (Vernon Gholston, Darius Heyward-Bey, Gaines Adams) and every year someone drops for not being absolutely perfect at the combine and some team gets a steal (Ryan Harris, DeSean Jackson, Rey Maualuga)

The only thing the combine tells a team is how well a player prepares.
If a guy shows up to the combine fat and out of shape that may give you some insight into his work habits. Otherwise, the combine is pretty worthless. They’re still doing a bench press rep test at the combine, for God’s sake.
Toby is in HR, which technically means he works for corporate, so he's really not a part of our family. Also, he's divorced, so he's really not a part of his family.
Maybe someday they'll switch to a power clean and jerk test
Now that would be entertaining to watch

I agree.
I know some college level S&C coaches who only use olympic lifts and plyos on their conditioning programs. There isn’t a lot of practicality to the bench press. For some weird reason people still see it as a benchmark for you strong you are: “How much do you bench?” The better question is “How much can you clean?”
