Could Chiefs Trade 5th pick to Arizona..?

Here's an interesting scenario...

With Kurt Warner retiring, Arizona doesnt seem sold on Matt Leinart.  Is it possible that KC trades the 5th to ARI for the 26th and Anquan Boldin? Then Arizona takes Bradford/Clausen, KC gets the WR and can use the 26th and the 36th to move back into the first, or sit and pick.  KC may also be able to swing a 2nd out of the deal and have 3 round 2 picks (KC, ARI, ATL) plus the 26th, making it VERY easy to move wherever they want in the first.

Star-divide

After the trade

KC

26th (ARI)

36th

50th (ATL)

58th (ARI)

Boldin

Trade may cost KC another pick in later rounds, but puts the Chiefs in prime position to bank on 4 big guys between 25-60 or trade back up in the mid-first and get "their guy"

Most see Washington or Buffalo as the big trade partners at #5, but I like what Arizona has to offer, if they are interested, of course.

Any thoughts?

Uh oh

You’ll probably get yelled at for the title of this post

Probably

but after the title I kinda like the idea.

Guard is major hole

especially with possible talk of Waters to Center. I think that G or LB is where KC goes in the first wherever they pick, they can get a Cam Thomas, Myron Rolle, or Jordan Shipley in the 2nd.

by Bead Man on Feb 21, 2010 2:05 PM CST up reply actions

Sounds like a rip off

to move from the top five to the bottom ten in the draft the price starts at a first ant two seconds or two firsts or all picks from round 1-3 and a future pick..

Throwing Boldin in there would probably still net us a second

AH just noticed no question mark.

Its whatever, at least it gets people thinking. Look at it this way that 4-5 seconds after you read the title is the most enthused/excited/antsy youve been about the Chiefs since the ’03 playoff game.

by Bead Man on Feb 21, 2010 1:40 PM CST reply actions

Don't like it.

Anquan is only getting older and he’s about 30 already. We loose out on drafting top talent with the 5th pick from Berry to McClain to Haden or whoever it is. I don’t like it. I’d rather trade to 10-15th picks not the 25-32

Jesus..

Boldin is top 5 WR in this league. Randy Moss tore it up in NE after he turned 30. I would love to see Boldin as a Chief. I would be willing to trade our 2011 1st rounder.

by I_Bleed_Red. on Feb 21, 2010 3:36 PM CST up reply actions

Yea no way he's worth a 1st rounder.

Absolutely not. Especially since he’’ll be older by then. I don’t like it still. We drop all the way back in the back of the 1st and pick up an againg receiver? No thank you.

Q is old and injury prone

But is:
tough
productive
hard working (despite not being happy with contract)
a leader

Basically I can go either way on this one….

by bonesjackson on Feb 21, 2010 2:18 PM CST reply actions

I hate calling Q injury prone

He broke his face vs NYJ. Otherwise he’s had a few nagging injuries.

AND....

After the broken face, he was back to playing within what, two weeks or something. Q is a tough bastard. Adding him would make our receiver corp lethal.

by Chiefsfan1970 on Feb 22, 2010 8:59 AM CST up reply actions

Boldin

I don’t think he is injury prone…except for the fact he plays so hard, but the man is a beast and durable…I don’t think that is a concern for signing him

by groundedchevy on Feb 22, 2010 12:20 PM CST up reply actions

I agree

I would rather just give up pick 2b for boldin……and that would still give us the option of trading back with someone at 5……hopefully netting a 1st and second rounder…….that way we would essentially trade our 1st and 2b for boldin a 1st and another 2nd(possibly being better than 2b)

by cassel4prez on Feb 21, 2010 8:03 PM CST up reply actions

For some reason,

I think with Crennel in office, we might even trade up. Who knows what he’ll see in a Mccoy or Berry

by JC25FoMVP on Feb 21, 2010 3:00 PM CST reply actions

Boldin can be had for...

a 4th rounder. So we trade down from #5 to #26 and get a "4th rounder (boldin). Not a good trade for us. I actually think Boldin could be had for two 5ths. 1 this yr and 1 next yr.
But I like the discussion. Trade options are going to be an opportunity for us.
I think its weird how everyone has given up on Leinert. I’ve actually been one to want a young guy to sit, learn and mature. Now give him his shot, like Aaron Rogers and Rivers. I still think Quinn needs to be given a shot too. When I refer to “give them a shot” I mean 8-10 games minimum.

If Arizona...

traded Boldin for a 4th or two 5ths there would be riots in Phoenix. Boldin is worth a 2nd and a and mid to late round pick at the minimum.

by I_Bleed_Red. on Feb 21, 2010 3:39 PM CST up reply actions

I agree with this assesement (except for the riot part)

That said, I’m not sure that Arizona will get maximum value for Boldin. Why you asked? Let me explain. Boldin had a great season in 2008 catching a TD every eight reception and missing 4 games 89 rec 1038 yds. for 11 TD’s. The time to trade a player IS WHEN his value is at it’s highest for maximum trade value.

Fast forward to 2009. With Whisenhunt calling the plays, the offense was a lot less exploisive, more predictable and more run based. This further depresses the value of the player on the open market (if the player’s on the open market) because by the very nature of the offensive system being run said player’s statistics will decline (84 rec. 1024 yds. for total 5 tds). So in essence, the Cardinals contribute to a possible depressed market for the player. I completely agree that maximum value will not be attained by the Cardinlas. The compensatoin will be below what one should recieve for a player of Boldin’s production. Case in point: Boldin’s a better player than Roy Williams and yet the conversation persist that Boldin is not worth a second round draft pick. Ridiculous is it not?

Gonzales

We gave up Gonzales for a 2nd…I’d rather have Boldin…

Getting a second rounder for TG was a mind-boggling steal!

Toby is in HR, which technically means he works for corporate, so he's really not a part of our family. Also, he's divorced, so he's really not a part of his family.

I think we could...

…work with the Browns. They may want a qb and also have two 2nd rounders so…

It seems that the 49ers would be the prime canidate for a trade.

They could trade with us, and get the QB that they want, and we end up with their 1st 1st round pick, and 2nd round pick

Go Chiefs!!!!

by ravenhawk on Feb 21, 2010 3:26 PM CST reply actions

makes sense

But Alex Smith showed some promise stepping in last year.. I think we have a beter shot with the Browns and their two seconds

1 first day pick, and 4 second day picks…

I was thinking Cleveland jumps Seattle in exchange for one second

we get Cleveland’s first and second (not Tampa’s) and Cleveland gets our first

It's funny how things change...

Two years ago, everyone was talking about how great the QB situation was in Cleveland. D. Anderson was fresh off of a Pro Bowl year and Quinn was waiting in the wings… Now everyone thinks they both suck!

by Chiefsfan1970 on Feb 22, 2010 9:02 AM CST up reply actions

True, but if you look at it that way

the Browns would be giving up on Quinn, assuming they want a QB. Leinart has been in the league a year longer and has shown less promise. Arizona could be willing to give up their 1rst, 2nd, and Boldin. And since im no expert, maybe even more?

by Bead Man on Feb 21, 2010 3:45 PM CST reply actions

The Trade

sounds good don’t get me wrong, but I think it’d have to be more than just the first and Boldin, sure he’s a great receiver but he’s way to injury prone, and sitting out of the playoffs doesn’t help his cause.
I say a 1st, 3rd and Boldin is fair.

to answer your question ...
Could Chiefs Trade 5th pick to Arizona … ?

yes … and pigs could fly, Whitlock could give up BarBQ, APers could agree on who to draft and Sarah Palin could make an intelligent statement …

but don’t count on any of the above happening

and that trade you proposed … what a waste, absolute total waste for … Boldin? good grief no … a whiny, self-centered egomaniacal, argumentative WR is NOT on my shopping list and shouldn’t be on Pioli’s …

OLine … it does help to keep the QB alive, so I hear

Boldin was a model receiver for years in Arizona.

He has publicly complained about wanting a contract but hey every football player wants a 5 year contract that gives them the money they are worth and Boldin earned more than he makes now. He got into it with Haley but so did Kurt Warner and nobody freaked out about that. Haley is passionate and so is Boldin i would love to have him here for a 4th rounder or two of our 5ths.

The first 3 picks of the draft will be defense. Pioli loves him some defense.

by ChiefsfanJon on Feb 22, 2010 9:21 AM CST up reply actions   1 recs

hey upamtn

Your sounding a lot like whitlock right now. How about YOU lay off the BBQ?

How would saving millions by dropping 20 spots in the draft, also by picking up a second, proable third, and a WR that makes us better be an absolute waste? Haley has said he like him. He likes Haley. We get 5-6 picks in the first 100, prime position.

Im sorry, but between this or throwing another $50 million contract on a top 5 for the 3rd year? Id rather move down, more picks, AND an impact player. This draft is deep enough.

by Bead Man on Feb 22, 2010 2:16 AM CST reply actions

Even if it meant we'd miss out on McClain, or Berry?

Who may be Pro Bowl defensive players in 5 years, when Boldin has retired?

Ryan Succop will be the kicker for the AFC in the 2011 Pro Bowl

Great point PVC. NO. NO. And NO. We draft defense while the gettins good.

We have to get the young bucks to play defense for us while the draft is so full of them.

Bead man. You can't reply with insults when you post. If you can't take the heat stay out the

AP Kitchen son. We don’t play. That being said. I have no clue what Pioli is capable of. I rather doubt that at this point, Pioli would spend big money on an injury prone receiver on the cusp of the tail end of his career. Would I love Boldin? Yes!! Can we do better? I don’t know.

It’s intriguing to say the least. Now, that being said. Let’s eat some BBQ!!

by krayfish on Feb 22, 2010 12:10 PM CST up reply actions

ok Bead, you asked for it!

while I have no problem with saving millions on an overpriced top-ten-pick rookie, regardless of who or what position, I do have a MAJOR issue with SPENDING millions on an Arizona version of Brandon Marshall … Boldin is how old? has how many years left? and what happens when, not if, but when Croyle completes one to DBowe? yet another sideline tantrum? between Boldin and Haley my bar-b-q is gonna end up being burnt ends anyway …

as for “impact” player, there’s no way Boldin or any WR is an impact player with our current OLine … and don’t insult AP by claiming that a 2nd or 3rd round G or C is an “impact player” (not to mention the need for ILB and NT and … the beat goes on)

Boldin’s a crybaby, I think he’s 2nd cousin to LJ or Moss … please, he’s not The Right 53, in fact he’s not The Right 353 … what we NEED is Okung in 1st and Ducasse or Iupati in 2nd, and then if you want a WR go out and get Danario Alexander and line him up in the slot opposite DBowe

now go over to LC’s and get enough for you, me AND kray …

ill take your share of ribs chiefnyc...haha

upamtn, so if we dont get boldin, then whats the alternative? do you still think we could trade w/ arizona? or is staying at 5 the best chioce? and Iupati may/may not fall in the 2nd, you never know, i mean the 2008 draft had like 7-8 OL in the first. But Okung seems safe, and if hes the guy at 5 then does he play RT? LT and Albert to G? theres a lot of possibilites KC could go.

If we dont go for Boldin, would KC consider another WR out there via trade/FA? or do you think theyd just settle in the draft?

Seems like it may be another loooong offseason.
