hi, Mo!
5 minutes!!!
I gotta ask?
If you voted no then at this point what do you not approve of? I am genuinely curious and not looking to start a flame war.
I didn't vote no but...
the fact we only had 4 wins last season could be a reason why for some lol

It was 2 more than Peterson's last year.
But as of now, and the kick ass coaching staff that has been assembled, I would ask what more would someone want done right now to approve?

I voted not sure..
Not sure where all of this is coming from.
His first draft was unimpressive, and he phoned it in all season. I think i seen him once all year. I am not saying he is bad or isnt doing his job, but he needs to have a much better draft this April and needs to show up on game day to prove he holds himself to the same accountability standards that he spoke about when he was hired. Hell even Carl showed up to answer a few questions.
ha ha, did we learn nothing from the 1-15 cowboys? its pretty hard for instant results
players don’t come in and dominate, if they do they are the top rookies that year…its far too early to say anything about last year’s draft, but it isnt too early to say Herm/Vermeil screwed us with the drafting, CP with the free agency…
Vince Wilfork will be Scott Pioli's top offseason priority and will be a Chief.
KC Will Trade Derrick Johnson=
Agreed
We’ll see in another year or two if last years draft was “unimpressive” or not.
I think getting a starting QB and LB with one 2 round pick was fairly impressive, personally. The other picks? Remains to be seen. Very rarely is a DE “impressive” in their first year.
Huh?
Not sure where all of this is coming from.
It’s an approval poll for this month, not his entire career here. If you only judge him for what happened in January… then I think you’d be hard pressed to find something to disapprove. The DEN win, the Weis and Crennel hires. The Chiefs were flying high in January.
As for him not showing up: I disagree. He’s gone public on way more than one occasion. He was at a pre season game, and went into the booth to talk with both the tv commentators and Mitch and Lenny in the radio booth. He’s been on 610 and 810 radio at least a couple of times. He’s not hiding, he’s just not as vocal as Peterson was. It’s just a different way of having his organization run.

Mostly agree w you guys.
Jackson was just ok, for a rookie i guess that is enough. Ill give him a plus for finding Succup in the 7th round. The others are just meh…
However if you want an approval for this month great, but the Chiefs didnt play this month, so id have to not approve that. If you look at the graph below on the main page it is about gauging how he has done since he got here. As an accumulation of how well he has done so far in KC, i still have to say not sure. Your right some of those middle picks might pan out, some more might be busts… hard telling.
The part about “Not sure where all of this is coming from.” was supposed to be omitted, it was from an earlier post on a similar topic. Just an oversight on my part.
He was at every game...
And even went out to get peoples opinions in the parking lot after a few games. But isn’t this just supposed to be this month?

He may have been at every game...
but i only remember once (not saying there were not more) where he spoke about anything. Radio is dead, and i dont hang out in the parking lot. All i am saying is id like him to answer a few tough questions in a forum that is going to get some exposure.
Now you are narrowly defining your criteria to support
Your personal belief that Pioli did very little PR. Is he as vocal as CP? No, but I think it is a bit oblique to judge the quality of a GM on such a characteristic. It is like judging how good a coach by how much he yells at players on the sidelines.

Well no...
I am judging him based on what he said he was going to do. He said there will be accountability. You can’t say that, then not speak about your own progress/regress on a consistent basis. I am judging him based on his draft. Time could prove me wrong, and 2 starters out of a draft is nice, but the rest of the picks are looking iffy at this point in time. I am very happy with the coaching staff that he and Haley have put together, but that is the kind of things that pacify Chiefs fans for awhile, it is time to yield some results. I do not expect a huge turnaround all at once, but to say last year was an improvement might be looking at it through cool aid colored glasses.
But it was an improvement.
We won more games AND got a system put in place to make the new coaching hires integrate smoothly. The OL was improved because they (Pioli/Haley) churned the roster until they found the guys they wanted, and got a zone blocking scheme that looked pretty darn good by the end of the year. The 3-4 front 7 is mostly in place aside from a NT and a LB or two. We have 2 really decent looking ends, Tamba transitioned to a pass rushing OLB, and we found a couple of run stuffers in Mays and Williams, AND we got a coach on the field in Vrabel.
IMO, you’re being too narrow minded to judge him based only on the draft, which, BTW, if you do that you should count Vrabel and Cassel. So look at last years draft again. We got Jackson, Succop, Cassel, and Vrabel. 4 starters, including the possible QB of the future.
Look at the big picture man. The draft. The coaching staff. The implementation of a system that conducts the team, not a team that conducts the system. When you take everything that Pioli has started to build here, I’d argue that it’s nearly impossible to disapprove of him. Time will tell if it works out, but it’s awfully hard to argue that Pioli hasn’t started moving and shaping this team into what he’s wanted since day one. I think too many people are just too short sighted to see this.

Haha, it is an OPINION poll. If someone doesn’t approve of him because he doesn’t like the show “Lost”, they are entitled to it.

I think my problem might be that I stopped watching Lost after season 1.
And stared tried watching it again a few seasons later. I was all like “WTF is going on?” and turned it off.

That'd do it.
Lost is great, but you have to watch it sequentially. You just can’t skip around at all and hope to keep up, it’s too hard.
Fire up the DeLorean!
Back to Jan 11, 1970!
Some of that credit belongs to Haley.
And i don’t disapprove, mostly i see people who talk about Pioli like he is and has been the 2nd coming, so I am trying to be more objective than that. The O-line, and blocking scheme has been Haley’s baby. The system may be somewhat in place but that is hard to judge at this point because there will be changes due to new OC and DC (even though i have no doubt that will be for the better), but Pioli will not have as much to do with that as Wies/Crennel. If you want to add Vrabel and Cassel to the draft ok, but im not sure about those guys either. Cassel may be the better QB and won more games, but the O as a whole was better under Thigpen, (Ouch, i know that must sting.) and how long is Vrabel going to be around for? Wanting some tangible improvement is not being short sighted, ive watched football for many years, so i understand they are still in the stage of laying a foundation, but a couple games doesnt do it for me. I want them to at very least show up and look like they are prepared to play anyone, win or lose i want to see competence and I didnt see it very many games last year.
Fair enough.
The offensive scheme was Haley’s baby, but Pioli still had to work with Haley to get the guys required. O’Callaghan was a nice grab, and IMO, should secure the RT spot for many years to come. And Haley was hired by Pioli… so all signs point back to Pioli doing his job. Tangible improvement is what we got with 4-12, IMO. We could have beaten Cleveland, Dallas, Cincinnati and Oakland. Those were all really close games.

All true.
At 4-12 it really is hard to judge. A play here or there and they could have been 8-8, in which case i would have kept my mouth shut, but some of those close games were still kinda ugly. Pioli did do as much as anyone could to find us some band aids mid-season. I just need to see more of the same, a solid draft in April, and the best players on the field before i go all man crush on him like a lot of AP’ers. Hearing from him about his own accountability like he spoke of when he was hired would be nice, but i wont hold my breathe on that one.
lol.
I agree to an extent. The draft picks were questionable, and some of the FA moves (Goff, Thomas) didn’t pan out. He’s far from perfect, but as one of AP’s regular ambassadors of the Kool-Aid, I’ve got to try and look at the big picture and connect the dots. Agree to disagree, and to each his own ;-)

Well...
Finding diamonds in a pile of dog shit isn’t easy to do.
But, I have to give Pioli credit for digging.
I think we are looking at the same picture.
I do see the dots starting to build a picture. We are just looking at it slightly different. If i get you right you’re saying, “In time this could be a master piece.” and i am looking at it like, “It could get better, but its no Michelangelo.” Both could be true.
Wow.
That was one of the best analogies I’ve ever seen. Couldn’t have said it better myself.

My optimism is just a bit more guarded.
I have been through, “Deberg, will be the greatest Chiefs QB ever!” and “Montana was what it was going to take to get us to the superbowl.” or how the defense of the 90s would win us a championship and blah blah blah. Ive adopted a wait and see approach. I really do get why this would be an exciting time to be a Chiefs fan though. They have been down and things are starting to look up.
You must live on the Missouri side?
You have “Show Me State” written all over you.

Right on the line, Kansas side.
May have had some of the “show me” installed though.
I understand your feeling.
I just keep telling myself:
While we (the fans) have been going through this crap for years…Pioli and Haley have not. They just got here.
This team didn’t hit bottom in one year…and they won’t climb back to the top in one year.
And that sucks…definitely. But, I truly believe that Pioli is laying the foundation of a winner here. A team that’s “in the hunt” every year. And for that, I’m willing to give him some time.
I hope so.
A strong draft in April will get me behind him, and do more to make me think we have taken more than just a couple steps down that path.
I understand your cautious optimism.
I was the same way last year… and the year before that. I have a feeling that the winds of change are upon us now though. 8-8 is expected from this team in 2010. However, a 10-6 team wouldn’t surprise me.

wow you are optimistic!
looking at our opponents i see 3 maybe 4 home victories and 3 maybe 4 or 5 road wins. That is playing at the best of their current ability though. Nobody always plays their best, but next year might be better now that all the players and coaches are more comfortable with their roles, and know what is expected of them. Plus some new blood should infuse some more talent. I guess 9 wouldnt be out of the question.
Oh Yeah!

Well...
We would all like Pioli to answer our questions.
Problem is, the only person he really has to answer to is Clark Hunt.
I don’t think the guy is hiding out or anything…it’s just a difference in style from what we’ve gotten used to. It’ll be okay.
This is hi February approval poll
How can you not be sure or say no. He hired the two best coaches on the market. Doesn’t matter whether or not the turn out. They are the BEST available.
I'm still unsure
…and will be unsure until after free agency and the draft is done.
This team needs at least 4-5 new starters from FA and the draft and if he doesn’t accomplish that, then I’ll disaprove. If he does, then I’ll approve.

That is exactly right
We need 4-5 new starters for sure. The deciding factor in whether or not we praise Pioli will be who we get and how we got those new starters.
Does Pioli/Haley:
A) Sign 30+ year olds who are washed up (ex: Mike Goff)
B) Start young guys just for the purpose of starting young guys who shouldnt really be starting (ex: Corey Mays)
C) Sign a few 30+ year olds who are just a fill-in for a year or two until a young stud is ready to take over (ex: Chris Chambers or Junior Seau in New England)
D) Draft extremely well and make smart moves in free agency to acquire young talent who deserves to start and will be around for a long time?
Correct answers go in order of D, C, B, and followed by A (which better not even be an option).
(Im starting to really belive that kray & redngold have nothing else in life outside of AP)

The players are coming next!
High profile coaches/co-ordinators want a bunch of toys to play with. And obviously Pioli knows this before even making the hires for both Weis and Romeo. At least we know this go around effort upstairs will not be the issue!
I admit I voted "not sure"
I loved the hiring of Pioli last year and I couldnt be more pleased with the coaches brought in this off-season. My only hesitation is that I wasnt impessed on draft day last year and I’m still not overly excited about the 2009 class yet….but a good draft in 2010 could very easily change my vote.
