Chiefs Looking To Bring In A Kicker For A Workout

Stay connected for news and updates

Yes, a kicker.

Okay, the headline is a little misleading. The Kansas City Chiefs are looking to bring in a kicker for a workout but it's not one of their 30 pre-draft visits.

Derek Doerfler graduated from Baker University in December and, according to Chris Atlakson of The Baker Orange, will get an up close look at the Chiefs.

Doerfler has been invited to do a workout with the Kansas City Chiefs. Doerfler said Mike Grossner, Baker head football coach, is receiving emails from the Chiefs saying the team is interested in inviting him to attend workouts.

"The rules are set so you can only go to a workout if you grew up within 30 miles," Doerfler said. "I'm waiting on a phone call to set it all up."

He is also trying to get into KU's pro day on March 10th. In various Google searches him about him I've seen the words "kickoff specialist" a few times.

Fun fact: He once kicked a 62 yard field goal against William Jewell.

Last year the Chiefs were able to bring in guys like KSU's Josh Freeman, MU's Jeff Wolfert, KU's Mike Riviera and Ball State's Darius Hill.
