Chiefs Looking To Bring In A Kicker For A Workout
Yes, a kicker.
Okay, the headline is a little misleading. The Kansas City Chiefs are looking to bring in a kicker for a workout but it's not one of their 30 pre-draft visits.
Derek Doerfler graduated from Baker University in December and, according to Chris Atlakson of The Baker Orange, will get an up close look at the Chiefs.
Doerfler has been invited to do a workout with the Kansas City Chiefs. Doerfler said Mike Grossner, Baker head football coach, is receiving emails from the Chiefs saying the team is interested in inviting him to attend workouts.
"The rules are set so you can only go to a workout if you grew up within 30 miles," Doerfler said. "I'm waiting on a phone call to set it all up."
He is also trying to get into KU's pro day on March 10th. In various Google searches him about him I've seen the words "kickoff specialist" a few times.
Fun fact: He once kicked a 62 yard field goal against William Jewell.
Last year the Chiefs were able to bring in guys like KSU's Josh Freeman, MU's Jeff Wolfert, KU's Mike Riviera and Ball State's Darius Hill.

We won't.
No way would that happen. The only reason this guy is invited is because there is no reason not to bring him in. Always evaluate talent, even if you don’t have an immediate need. What if Succop slips and falls in the shower in the offseason and breaks his leg? It’s good to have a list of guys at the ready who you might want to bring in to replace him if the unexpected occurs.

Am I right to assume this is mostly to help out local college teams players?
Probably not people we will actually draft?
Maybe one of these guys will impress and get invited to camp (Im in a baseball mood, is that how it’s described in football? I forget…) or signed after the draft
Good thing.
Baker, William Jewell, and Rockhurst were my alma mater’s rivals when I was in school.
Anyone remember when the Chiefs had training camp at William Jewell?
