Mawae played for the Jets from 1998-2005

He has the Todd Haley connection.

Maybe but Goff never reached All-Pro status. But I agree, he is too long in the tooth.

My bold prediction and I think our best chance at moving down in the 1st. Bret Favre retires, Tavarris Jackson is not retained or leaves and the Vikings trade up, with our beloved Chiefs, for Jimmy Claussen.

how old was Weigmann when he left here?

I say at least give him a shot, you cant put Mawae and Goff in the same catagory

Regardless of who the Chiefs pick at #5 overall, Whitlock will call it the worst pick in the history of the Chiefs. Heres to hoping that #5 pick runs Whitlock out of town.....

disagree

Mawae was solid last year.. While we may only get a year out of him, it will be a year without having to start an unproven rookie

This is from a Boston Herald article from a few years back.

Few executives know Mawae as well as Pioli, who pushed the Jets to sign him as a free agent from Seattle before the 1998 season.

"He’s got a great relationship with Scott," Bartelstein said. "He played a big part in bringing Kevin to the Jets.

I like...

Olson at Center from Notre Dame…Has played in the Weis system, and fits the youth movement well!

by Baldock1 on Feb 18, 2010 12:11 PM CST reply actions

Even better...

Bring in Mawae and draft Olsen to learn from an All Pro. It worked out pretty good for us in 1990 bringing in 37 year old Mike Webster (in ‘89) and drafting Tim Grundhard (in ’90). As Haley has said, it’s always good to have a mentor. After all, golden domer centers have been good to us in the past:)

by ICTChief on Feb 18, 2010 12:38 PM CST up reply actions

words out of my mouth

Olsen is projected to the fourth round for a reason.. If he was a guaranteed start on day one he’d at least be in the top third.. Bringing in Mawae (who’s frame and style of play almost parallels Olsen’s) could only be good.

The guy may be old but he is one of the best Centers ever

He could be a one year stopgap. He could tutor a rookie that we draft. For the right price he would be a great pickup.

Assuming he is good with that but I bet Tennessee wanted the same scenario.

My bold prediction and I think our best chance at moving down in the 1st. Bret Favre retires, Tavarris Jackson is not retained or leaves and the Vikings trade up, with our beloved Chiefs, for Jimmy Claussen.

Are there any teams ever looking for a 39 year old?

at 39, he'll probably be looking for a team that has a good chance of winning a lot of games next year

The only players I hurt with my words are the ones who have an inflated opinion of their ability. I can't worry about that.

Mawae at 39 = Goff at 33

You know what else is risky?

Spend $60M on a QB and $0M on an offensive line in the same offseason. Pioli has shown he’s willing to roll the dice.

how much did Goff get

i know we brought him in? Plus they traded for Alleman, and Ndukwe

Regardless of who the Chiefs pick at #5 overall, Whitlock will call it the worst pick in the history of the Chiefs. Heres to hoping that #5 pick runs Whitlock out of town.....

i am by no means trying to say Goff was good/serviceable

just that Pioli did try to bring someone in

Sign him

Don’t let his age fool you, Mawae is still a legitimate starter in this league, not to mention one of the smartest centers in the league too.. A mid round center for rotational/development purposes and a Mawae signing would solve our C problem for a long time

Mawae= washed up

by ArrowDread on Feb 18, 2010 12:59 PM CST reply actions

so according to you

Mawae and Vrabel are washed up?
I disagree, Mawae and Vrabel both are valuable to a team like the Chiefs, knowing we are going to draft a C and LB both Mawae and Vrabel could be invaluable in helping them develop.

Let's play what if...

What if Pioli goes out and signs Stephen Neal and Kevin Mawae, and uses them as 1-2 yr stop gaps n mentors. Would you be ok with that? Draft 2 rookies and let them sit and learn? Or would you rather start 2 rooks? I prefer the first option. Both Neal and Mawae have alot left in the tank. Both are significant upgrades over Niswagner and Goff.

Albert, Waters, Mawae, Neal, O’Callahan = Solid!

by Larryemcdaniel on Feb 18, 2010 1:13 PM CST via mobile reply actions

I'm not for this, but you could also

Trade Waters for a pick and draft Anthony Davis 5th. Good youth, supplemented with pro bowl vets. Exactly what Hunt wants.

I think

we should try him out for the right price, he could end up being like a cheap prostitute, he may not be pretty, but he still gets the job done

one year contract?

sure! anything more? nahhhh

leadership

is what he would bring. like brabel…

even if just one year, that would give us more time to find a long term impact center. add that to the fact that it would make the line stronger in that year, being better on offense, increasing confidence, and contributing to a winning aura in kc.

a good pickup if you ask me..

Just like novocaine. give it time; always works..

I can dream can't I?

LT- Branden Albert, Wade Smith
LG- Brian Waters, Matt Tennant
C- Kevin Mawae, Eric Olsen
RG- Stephen Neal, Colin Brown
RT- Ryan O’Callahan, Wade Smith

Great depth with a blend of youth, leadership and toughness

I agree. Dude is an all pro, can mentor young guys and show them the way. Think about it. He’s been playing elite football against elite players for near 20 years; he’s not the biggest center but has taken on some BIG lineman, he’s like 285. He’s also taken great care of his body to be considered a starting center for so long. Another thing he can teach. Since he’s been in Tennesssee, their line play has been great, so I automatically think he can make out RG a stud w Waters holding down the left. 1 year contract, who knows, Mawae could fall in love w KC and be Muirs understudy to take over oline duties

So, Pouncey can play guard for awhile

At least until we draft his brother :)

Problem with Neal is that he hasn’t played 16 games since 2005.

The path to Victory is made of losers.
