Patriots Offensive Lineman Could Draw Chiefs Interest In Free Agency
In one of the most watered down versions of free agency in recent memory, a ray of sunlight may have just shined through for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Stephen Neal, New England Patriots guard, will test the market, according to his agent.
"He's going to be playing," Neal's agent, Neil Cornrich, told ESPN's Adam Schefter this evening. "We expect there to be a vibrant free-agent market for his services."
Neal, 33, was considering retirement according to reports.
Other than the obvious Pioli connection, there are a few reasons the Chiefs could be very interested in his services.
- Toughness: Neal played through broken ribs last season and didn't say anything about it.
- Position of need: The Chiefs could use an offensive guard.
- Wrestling background: Neal is a former wrestler and so is Chiefs lineman Jermail Porter.
- Familiarity other than Pioli: Both Charlie Weis and Romeo Crennel were coordinators while he was in New England.
We're not the only ones who think this could happen. Both Schefter and Mike Reiss of ESPN believe the Chiefs could be a landing spot.

Sign him
He’s high-fiving Gostkowski which means he successfully stood up for a fieldgoal attempt which is something our guards are inable to do.

Oh you mean they were suppose to stay standing up during a field goal?
I always thought that Herm coached the linemen to drop to the ground.

Positive: Get a solid lineman that could fill a gap while we draft a develop a replacement
Negative: We have to listen to people whining about picking up the Patriots’ “Garbage”
Anyway, I think we should sign him.
What the world needs is more geniuses with humility, there are so few of us left.
he would help for a year or two
until Brown or Porter are ready to step in, i say sign him
Regardless of who the Chiefs pick at #5 overall, Whitlock will call it the worst pick in the history of the Chiefs. Heres to hoping that #5 pick runs Whitlock out of town.....
I would look at this as a good upgrade for our line
I have seen some “another Goff” statements in the earlier fanpost about Neal and personally don’t see the same scenario unfolding.
Did you see some of his play last season
He got burned and pushed around a lot last season, if it was Cassel instead of Brady throwing those passes, he would have set a league record for sacks, and most of them would have been to DT’s.

Do you think...
…that maybe the broken ribs he played with during the season had something to do with that?
this sounds good..
too good… mike goff part 2???
You're a goddamn quarterback! You know what that means? It's the top spot, kid. It's the guy who takes the fall. It's the guy everybody's looking at first - the leader of a team - who will support you when they understand you. Who will break their ribs and their noses and their necks for you, because they believe. 'Cause you make them believe. That's a quarterback.

He wants to retire - Let him
we got better on the roster right now. Nduckwe for sure if Smith wasn’t so good :)
"For what we are about to see next, we must enter quietly into the realm of genius." Scott "Young Frankenstein" Pioli
I am concerned about his age
He is 33 years old and considered retirement at one point. I’m sure he was a great player, but at best, he is a short-term solution to the Chief’s offensive line problem(s).He could very well be the second coming of Goff, Black, and that loser who impressed Herm Edwards when he went ape (from hard knocks).
I would not be opposed to signing Neal if: (1) he is relatively cheap, and (2) the Chiefs make other moves to fix the offensive line in either (a) free agency, or (b) the draft.
As the great Parcells said, once a player is considering retirement, he’s already retired. Heed your mentor’s words Scott.
Did Parcells really say that?
If that’s true, I would not do it than. Wait, did you hear about that Brett Favre guy?
There is also this little tidbit about another potential NE lineman who might be available.

Matt Light the NE LT is under speculation about being cut.
I doubt we get Light...
Unless he can play on the right side…I’d be interested then.

i think it's possible
that KC can get him, and that he could play LT or RT
* KC now has the best coaching staff in the league
* Pioli will make at least one trade in the offseason, and 2 trades during the draft
* I'd prefer "lightning and lightning" as opposed to "lightning and thunder" when it comes to RBs
* 9-7 is a real possibility in 2010 IF the Chiefs get 4 new starters
So Cassel can lead the ,league in sacks again?? NE’s OL stinks. It’s Brady that made them look decent.
Their front (3 out of 5 anyways) is still better then ours... I'd only keep Waters and Albert (but as a right tackle)
I’d still take Kaczur over O’Callahan, Koppen over Neiswanger, Mankins over Goff & Wade.

Just because the patriots had a good run
doesnt mean that every single player they have is made of gold. yes neal has had a good history but instead of us getting old washed up players lets develop players to lead our next dynasty.
