Keeping Jamaal Charles healthy...
With his upcoming role in the Chiefs offense. I wouldn't mind Charles gaining 10 or so pounds. I don't think his speed would decrease at all, but he would be more powerful and not so easy to take down. Lifting weights a bunch in the off season would be huge for him because he is going to get near 350 touches through special teams, the air, and the ground. He needs a strong frame to have a long career. We've seen two things that make for an urgency of gaining weight. The first, the quick hall of fame potential career of Larry Johnson come to an end. The second, the Robert Ayers hit in week 17 of the season. Seeing that small frame laying motionless on the ground was a scary moment. If immature defensive players are going to go hard after Charles when he ruins their defense for a quarter, a heavier body is EXTREMELY needed because hes going to be ruining defenses alot.
His first full season as a starter:
Stay under 300 carries unless his stamina and body shows otherwise
Aquire Logan Mankins, OG from NWE.
Aquire either, Andquan Boldin, Jordan Shipley, or Arrelious Benn so we aren't totally relying on the running game

I think we can all agree that JC needs to stay healthy...
After all, it’s the only chance the Chiefs have at success on offense. He makes the play action more effective and helps keep the pressure off of the O-line.
I personally think Todd Haley realizes this. You could tell after Charles started tearing it up that Haley was conscious of not overusing him. He won’t be playing on special teams next year so, that shouldn’t be an issue. After what happened after LJs 400+ carry season, I think everyone is aware of what can happen when you overuse a RB.
I actually thought Coach Haley was using him exactly right the last few games. He seemed like he was getting around 20 carries a game and getting targeted for a few pass plays. Seems about right to me. JC is by far the biggest weapon we have.
I think 20-25 touches at his current weight...
..as physical as he runs, might be a few too many. He may only be a pinch above 200, but he plays a lot bigger, which obviously increases his risk for injury.
Maybe if he packs on 10 lbs or so, I could see that happening. Otherwise, I’d say tone it down to about 15-18 touches.

Draft Anthony Dixon
He is a very good RB and has good size. That would help J.C the most……oh and a couple of o-line guys to boot. I hate to say this, but i don’t see J.C holding up over the coarse of a whole season, so we need to address the back-up RB spot too.

I've been pulling for a guy like Dixon or Chris Brown

Touches themselves aren't all created equally
A 15yd. sprint that goes out of bounds, no tackle-breaking or dogpile, is usually going to wear on a guy like Charles a lot less than an Eddie George play. But as a general rule, the average wear/tear from 20-25 carries probably would be too much. Let’s hope Charles can put up another 1100yd. season on a lot less than 320 touches. He had a little over 1400 combined yards on 230 touches last season. Obviously he’s not going to have so few touches in 2010, because he’ll come into the season as the starter, but Haley’s also going to have to limit him to a maximum of 25 touches in any one game, with two exceptions: (1) it’s the end of the season, and KC is fighting for their playoff lives, or (2) a lot of the first 25 touches were pretty light on contact.
Really

I swear if we "Herminate" Charles the way we did LJ....
I might give up on this team. Fortunately I don’t think Haley will become so one-dimensional and try to force a square peg into a round hole.
My sentiments are likely to be summed up with one of these 2 quotes:
"Shut the f--- up."- Matt Cassel
"WHAT THE F---?!?!"- Todd Haley

That will NEVER happen on Weis's watch.
We’ll run the ball but, we won’t be scared to throw down the field either. Those things will help each part of the offense be a lot more effective anyway…as long as the plays are mixed up well.
Yep
Plus I think we draft or go FA to get a 2nd RB to get some carries.
If we can get a reliable back like Blount we can spread it out like JC 20-22 carries LG 10-12 carries. And maybe 1-2 carries for the FB or 3rd RB.
No need to wear JC out. Look at Chris Johnson, he does all his damage with about 20-25 carries anyways….Jamaal will too.

Two back sets...
JC and a bruiser back there. Noone would know what is coming at them! I like the sound of that…That would open up JC to win out at the end of some games if we could pound the ball all day.
I hear Brandon Jacobs won’t be in NY next year…
I would think they would easily know
by the number on the jersey in the backfield…

dude, i wouldn't change that.
i know 2.7 is a deuche and all, but if that name harkens back to ‘05 then you’re one of the oldest of the old guard. I’d keep it just for history’s sake. just my $.002. or is that $.0027?

um, except I just noticed your profile says you joined in '09?
whatever. not exactly vitally important.

no, thats when i joined this site.
I joined yahoo in maybe ’03 or ’04 and it made it my arrowhead name
I agree
we need a compliment for him, but I want a RB who excels at the ZBS, and will have the patience to wait for his hole to open up. I’m thinking Blount or Stafon Johnson as a late round sleeper even though people say Johnson has a similar style to JC maybe Lightning and Lightning is better than Thunder and Lightning? Who knows maybe Johnson will take that other RB who used to be here’s number.
