Redskins Sign Former Chiefs Kicker Justin Medlock
The Washington Redskins announced today that they've signed kicker Justin Medlock to a reserve/futures contract.
Medlock, of course, used to play for the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Chiefs drafted him in the fifth round of the 2007 draft (over Mason Crosby), which is pretty high for a kicker.
Medlock was given the starting job in the preseason when the Chiefs traded Lawrence Tynes to the New York Giants. He struggled during preseason that year going 3/6 and the Chiefs released him after one regular season game, which included a 30 yard missed field goal.
Some of the best reactions to the Redskins signing, via Twitter:
They must not have watched any tape of him with the Chiefs
his best game was the rookie skills challenge! Can't believe the chiefs took him over mason
They should sign me as their kicker. I can still hit from 45 yards out.

I don't care what anyone else says
He’s still the best left-footed African American kicker in Chiefs history.

IMO
Just my two cents worth, but I do believe part of his problem in KC was we never brought in anybody to compete with him and push him. Wish him the best in Washington.
but he cometes with himself
that’s cheaper and saves a roster spot
Blame my wife!
Waiting until August 2010
Nick Novak getting worked out as well!!!
this was Peterson and Edwards master plan, sign and cut a bunch of crappy players that other teams will take, then hopefully the ones they have on the Chiefs were just not as crappy that way we could dominate the NFL. To bad we let those guys go Peterson and Edwards, seem like they had a nice 10-15 year plan laid out for us.
Warriors come out and play
I dunno
He had a damn good year in the CFL and kicking is kicking. He went 40/46 in Toronto for 86% and was 100% inside 50

Kangaroo puts it best for me

Seriously, WTF were they thinking?!? One good year in CFL, does not a good NFL Kicker make.
Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes; after that, who cares?! He's a mile away and you've got his shoes!
Maybe, maybe not.
What’s different though? Footballs are the same, a yard is a yard, and the uprights are the same size.

We shall see
He seemed to be a sure prospect coming out of college, then completely bombed in KC.

Didn't he only get like two kicks in with the Chiefs?
Or something like that…he must have been bad in practice.

Footballs in CFL are bigger (atleast they used to be)
Not saying that’s why he did so well in the CFL. I think it’s between the ears with him

Thats Australia for ya
Always forgotten and in the dark even in the midst of nuclear apolocalypse. Though they are excellent evaluators of NFL kicking talent.

Hey, why not sign me?
I’m more than willing to miss 30-yard field goals, and I’d do it for half of whatever money he’s getting.
