Add Two More Names To The Chiefs Draft Interests

Somehow I missed this last week but our own WTexKC brought it up in the FanShots. We know now the names of two more players the Kansas City Chiefs talked with at the Senior Bowl.

Star-divide

According to the Kansas City Star (on February 4th), cornerbacks Devin McCourty of Rutgers and Akwasi Owusa-Ansah of Indiana of Pennsylvania met with the Chiefs at the Senior Bowl several weeks ago.

Both players will be drafted in the later rounds and can return kicks.

The Chiefs also talked with Cincinnati WR Mardy Gilyard at the Senior Bowl, which we mentioned in January. He was down in South Florida for the Super Bowl and made the rounds on Radio Row.

"I spoke with about 20 teams at the Senior Bowl, and the Chiefs were one of them," Gilyard said. "They told me they had an interest in my return ability and the way I’m versatile. If Kansas City picks me, I’ll be a Chief and enjoy wearing red (his college colors)."

These are three players who fit the bill of a kick returner.

Sounds like the Chiefs will make a point of upgrading that area in the draft.

I like Gilyard

I would hope he falls to the 3rd and we make a move on him then..

Kray, Gilyard has been on the map

all season with over 1,000 yds and 11TD for Cincinnati. He had a good game at the Senior Bowl and he’s definitely a return threat so depending on where he falls he might be a good mid round pick.

Ohh, kick returners.

I read it at first and went, “Cornerbacks? Really?” But yeah, definately could use a return man.

KC has looked at a LOT of CBs, i think

You can never have too many good DBs

And, getting guys that can play CB AND return makes a lot of sense.

Clearly, KCs pass defense needs help, as does the return game

* KC now has the best coaching staff in the league
* Pioli will make at least one trade in the offseason, and 2 trades during the draft
* I'd prefer "lightning and lightning" as opposed to "lightning and thunder" when it comes to RBs
* 9-7 is a real possibility in 2010 IF the Chiefs get 4 new starters

Maybe.

I like our guys and generally think it has more to do with having to cover their men for what seems like two and a half minutes each play, but I’m no expert.

I’m for anything that makes us better at the end of the day.

WTexKC has been doing a great job of finding info for us! attaboy... :)

Winning begins with Attitude - Haley and Pioli will be winners in KC!

I'll forever be a Chiefs fan! Only God himself could take that away from me, but when I get to my great reward, I'll rejoin two bigger fans, my Mom and Dad.

Well,

I grew up in Midland but moved to Austin about 6 yrs ago. My parents still live there and I try and go back when I can.

Okay, cool.

I am a good piece north of Midland/Odessa, up in Amarillo. Transplanted from Northeast Kansas though.

Ahh,

yeah that is a good little drive, gets a bit colder up there.

McCourty has the goods

He was a lock down corner at Rutgers. Has impressive cover skills, great frame plays the ball vs. going for the pick. He’s a true athelete. If he lasts until round 5 he’d be a great value pick.

i thought this was cool

on the highlights fanatic put up for Gilyard a fan for another team (probably the raiders) wrote

this guy better not fall to the Chiefs are there will be problems problems
hell yeah, hes fast, it looks like he just goes into hyperdrive and leaves everyone else behind.

Great 2nd Round Pick for the Chiefs!

He’ll be a good solid player in the NFL. I think that he has great potential, and great hands. Something that was a huge issue for us since we lost #88. He’ll be a good slot receiver and return man just like Hakim was with the Rams..
