Tyson Jackson for Richard Seymour?
I brought up a thread about 3-4 games into the season last year saying that I would've rather traded our 1st round pick from last year to the Pats for Seymour than draft T. Jackson.
I got so much flak on the board about it that I almost got kicked off. At the time, I knew I was right and that it would eventually reveal itself.
So now that it has............
My question to the board is based on what you have seen, would you make this trade or would you not and still hope that Jackson will figure it out?

It has revealed itself?
I’ve seen him play pretty well when he was on the field this year. An injury that keeps a player out of several games and makes it rough coming back doesn’t mean he should be gone.
Count me as one who’s willing to give it more time.

Yeah give him the 3rd year
Every DL should get 3 years to contribute

Look back at all the players we would have traded before they blossomed
It’s a who’s who of building blocks for the future of the Chiefs.
Id rather have Tyson Jackson at 24, than Richard Seymour at 31
with an expiring contract.
Thats like saying: "Sure you didn’t get a hummer from Jessica Alba, but at least you got anally raped from Shaquille O’neil" --- Craig in Calgary
Contract
5 year $57mil deal for Jackson.
1 year $12.4mil Franchise tag. If he doesnt like the deal offered this offseason he gets a 120% raise. Last year he made something like $4mil…
He is going to want a BIG contract… I cant even imagine what he is going to want. The fact that he knows what his FT will be gives him all the leverage.
Is he a better player right now? OH YEAH! Would he be worth the cost, not only in the draft pick but the $? An aging RDE on his last big contract…
RDE
Oh and the fact that he doesnt even play the same position is kind of a null point… He is not a LDE. That is and was Warren’s position not Seymour. Seymour would have replaced Dorsey…
Exactly...
Pioli constantly compared T-Jax to Warren and not Seymour.

Negative
The Pats move Seymour up and down the DL to create the best matchup, and all he did was be an All Pro DE…now he’s going to be an All Pro DT. Some players are just that versatile.
Jackson has a bunch of upside, and he’s costing a lot less. The guy I would ask, and in whose opinion I would be most interested is Romeo Crennel’s. He’s coached them both. Pioli targeted Jackson because he had similar skills to Seymour coming out of LSU. I guess the big question is does he have a similar work ethic and leadership skills?
One thing about Seymour that justifies the Raiders trading for him is his leadership. The impact he has had on guys like Tommy Kelly, who seems to finally be justifying that huge contract, LaMarr Houston and Matt Shaughnessy can’t really be quantified by stats, since Houston and Shaugnessy are so young in their careers. Seymour showed up to camp with the rookies this year, and has been leading by example all season, with the exception of pimp slapping Worthlessberger.
Honestly, I liked the Chiefs taking Jackson last year, while most of my Chiefs fan friends hated the pick. Seymour was the first draft pick from the Bellichek/Pioli marriage in NE, so it seemed to make sense that you go after one of the toughest positions to fill when you transition to the 3-4, that of a DE. If he can stay healthy and develop, you’ll have the best DE you’ve had since Neil Smif turned Donkey…

Ah Negative
Seymour NEVER lined up as the LDE in a running situation. The ability to move him around had nothing to do with running downs. Oh and Warren was a 3 down players… So take that for what it is worth… Seymour might have moved inside to DT when they showed a more conventional 4-3 look but he never took over the LDE responibilities. If he did it was VERY minimal.

He talks about Dorsey and his improvement and how he saw the same thing with Seymour.
People made the simple mistake of talking about the two in the same regard simply because they were both the first picks in their regimes. Yet it is clear that they were drafted to play different positions since Seymour was the Base 3-4 RDE while Jackson is the Base 3-4 LDE.

Amen
Dorsey is the prime example of wishes for better players. Defensive linemen take 2-3 years to DEVELOPE!!!!!!!! Realize this people! TJ may fail, yet, if he meets the typical stereotype, he will be ballin like Dorsey in 2011. I’ve been a Dorsey fan since day 1. I knew that he would take 2-3 years to develope as a d lineman. He has blossomed! Even though he’s out of position in the 3-4. TJ is no different than any other defensive lineman.
You're 100% correct
and we should have thrown in Dorsey just to make it even.
This space for rent.
Seymour is ancient
Jackson has some upside and is young. Weren’t we talking like this about Dorsey last season. Time is needed with D lineman. However I am really doubting that Jackson becomes good. He’s rarely shown flashes
Can we be the AFC West Champions in 2010. You better believe it
Hali and Flowers are Pro Bowlers, even if the NFL fails to realise it
TJax has shown a lot of flashes.
Got consistently better as last year progressed, and started off really strong before he got injured.
He’s coming back from the injury now, but the coaches approach to it is guarded and it’s taking some time to transition back. Not sure how you can really say he’s rarely shown flashes.
Chiefs - back in the playoffs in 2011.
This guy is a Tard to
You dont trade a DE who Would have been in his prime this year had he not been hurt for a guy who has maybe 2 highly productive years left. Tyson was beasting before the injury. I think he breaks out next year.
In a heartbeat
I’ll take 3 years of dominant DE play over 5 years of dominant bench sitting.
by craig in calgary on Dec 5, 2010 9:59 PM CST reply actions
Ha!
dominant bench sitting
Classic :)
I love my wife, my kids, and the Chiefs. In that order. Except on game days.
Don't forget
They say you have to give defensive linemen at least 2 years. And I think Jackson has the potential to become a beast, while Seymour can only go downhill. We’ll see though, maybe I’m too optimistic.
Chiefs Will
You are not correct.
Jackson has a future…..Seymour will be done very soon.

I have said this couple times already....
Do we not remember on that draft what the Chiefs said. They said it could take anywhere from 2-3 years to develop TJax into the type of player we want. 3 quarters thru his second year I think he is doing ok. Next year we’ll taking about him like Dorsey. Just imagine Dorsey and TJax both playing at a high level and the edition of another pass rusher. A dream come true.

Very glad we didn't
Because at least Tyson is going to be on the team next year. Richard would have wanted like a 70 million dollar contract, which Clark probably would not have done.
trading a first round pick for a player his age is dumb
I’ll take the way the Chiefs are building this team ANY DAY over how the Raiders do things
It's all about the gameplan

Tyson Jackson still plays???
I'd rather be a free man in my grave than living as a puppet or a slave
He's been a healthy scratch last two games??
But his future is with us…its up to him to respond, ala Derrick Johnson
I wasn't aware that it had revealed itself either.
I would rather have Jackson. Like Dorsey, I believe that he is going to be a really good player for us.
"If ifs mattered, everyone would be undefeated." Enite
If
being blown back into the secondary, then i’d go with jackson, i dont think i’ve ever seen him break the line of scrimmage, one of the worst 1st round picks………ever
Incorrect on so many fronts.
Sorry, but that’s just false.
"I don't know if I want to go to New York. They'll have to pay me a lot more money because I like it here in Kansas City." -- Roger Maris
let him bulk up...
and put him in the middle… his middling skills may be enough to garner double teams on the point…
Ahh...
This is funny.
You couldn’t trade Ty Jackson and his contract for a bag of peanuts. No GM in the league would take it on, unless we were taking back an equally bad contract (of which there aren’t that many).
So yes, I’d make this deal. I’d make the deal even if it was just for Seymore for the rest of this season.
