Experiment fails, Dorsey to be traded?

Most of us were expecting Dorsey to have a career like Mr. Suh. Right? You all remember the hype-Dorsey is the best since Warran Sapp or Reggie White. Strong, quick, agile with the ability to make plays behind the line of scrimmage. Basically, the best pure DT to come into the NFL in a long while.

I was stunned that we didn't make the trade with the Saint's who tried really hard to make a trade. Carl Peterson said NO, and the rest is history.  Not a lot of history excepting that Dorsey has not lived up to his hype. Partly due to his playing out of position at DE, partly due to coaching and partly due to he ain't superman.

Several posts point out our lack of pass rush as a big impediment to this team. I agree that it needs improvement. How to improve? That is a question that interests us all. Dorsey who is a fine player is not reaching his potential playing DE. If he had developed a pass rush this post wouldn't be happening. But he has not, and this post is about what we need to do to fix this situation.

Many point to the rookie on IR, as the pass rush help we need after showing (in preseason) some ability to get sacks and apply pressure. In preseason DeMarrio showed ability to get sacks and he sits on the bench mostly. Remember preseason we didn't play to well either, so preseason is just that, preseason.

Some believe we need a big time, ie., first rounder, OLB who is a proven-in college-pass rusher to take over from Vrabel and help Hali with pressure from the opposite side. I agree we need help and a big play OLB would help tremendously. It might even happen

But Scott Pioli is not a man to let things stay in limbo, as I think Dorsey is as a DE. If he can trade for something, picks and/or body would he not do so? Why Dorsey, who is the best D-lineman we have? Because he isn't fulfilling his role in the 3-4, has a new contract due in a year or two, and has value on the market. Why would he not try to improve the team, especially if he can make the right deal?

Please do not take this wrong, but I like Dorsey, I just think the experiment has not panned out and that Pioli will try to fix this team whenever he can. This isn't about Dorsey being a bad pick or player, although I'd argue long and hard how we should  of made the trade with New Orleans instead of drafting the big man. This is simply an idea that was percolating and I thought I would share it with my fellow fans.

We will see what the Guru will do this off season but don't be surprised if this happens. This team still has needs and how he fix's things on this team is fun to observe. If something is not done regarding Dorsey,it will not be the end of the world, but will the team ever  be able to dominate using the 3-4?

Anyhow, let's kick some ASS today, donkey ass. Go Chief's!!!!
