Brandon Flowers Questionable For Chiefs; Jackie Bates Is Out
The Kansas City Chiefs are preparing to play the Denver Broncos this weekend and it looks like they'll be at least one man down when they do.
Via Josh Looney of KCChiefs.com, Chiefs have ruled out CB Jackie Bates for Sunday's game. He injured his knee last week against the Seattle Seahawks and earlier this week the Chiefs signed CB Mike Richardson suggesting Bates may not be able to go. That will be the case this weekend.
That's not the only area of concern in the secondary. The Chiefs ruled CB Brandon Flowers (hamstring) questionable for Sunday's game. Nick Wright of 610 Sports reported on Friday that Flowers is not expected to play. This is frustrating because the last time KC played Denver they were torched in the secondary and were also missing two players (Jon McGraw and Kendrick Lewis).
That's the end of the bad news on the injury report. Here's the good news:
S Kendrick Lewis is listed as probable after he joined the injury report on Thursday with an ankle injury. As it's been noted, KC is 7-1 with Lewis and 0-3 without him. G Ryan Lilja is also listed as probable. Last week he was listed as questionable and did play so it looks whatever ails him is healing up. Finally, S Jon McGraw is making his return after a three-week absence. McGraw had a head injury and is probable to play.
Notable names not on the injury report this week: WR Dexter McCluster and LT Branden Albert. We'll see them on Sunday.

Praying...
Flowers somehow miraculously plays on Sunday..
2010 Chiefs are on the rise. This is the most excited I've been since 'Nam...
Lewis
Here’s what I can’t figure out with that stat regarding our record with and without Lewis. Is it that he us that good our is it that our depth is just that bad behind him. Personally I love the look with Berry, Lewis, and McGraw all playing in the secondary together
True Dat...
if they can get Carr, Lewis, Berry, McGraw and Arenas on the field more often than not, I won’t feel as bad. Even still, we have got to pressure the bearded clam and keep it up for the entire game, force mistakes, and drop his ass like a bad transmission…

Neither.
It’s too small of a sample size to draw any meaningful conclusion.

True
It is a small sample size but I do see our depth as not that good…
I agree.
I’m just saying that whole record thing is about as meaningful as what Joel’s dad wears on game day.

You're telling me superstitions don't have an effect on the outcome of Chiefs games?

No, I'm saying the Lewis W-L record is really meaningful.

Lewis ' time out coinsides with McGraw for most part.
Too bad because that realy hurt a few games. I think i see them both in with berry at times when its an obvious pass situation.

You must be thinking about 810 instead of 610
Nick doesn’t say anything until he has someone who he can use as a source. I have yet to hear him be truly wrong about anything he reports. Everyone jumped on him when he said McCluster wouldn’t play last week, but magically McCluster didn’t play last week. Imagine that!
Don't get me wrong, I hope Flowers plays
but I know Nick wouldn’t say something unless he had a trusted source backing it up, and I’m sure he is closer to a lot of people on the team than you are.
Plus, Looney works for the official site of the Chiefs, so if they want the injury report to say Flowers is questionable, he will say Flowers is questionable, even if the information seems to indicate that Flowers will not play this week.
Besides Wright talking out of his ass half the time.
What is the purpose of pointing out that he is closer to people on the team than I am? What the hell does that have to do with anything? I’m not the one on the radio blurting my opinion as if it was fact.
Wright is always trying to stir the pot to get some kind of controversy started and the people that think “if you’re on the radio then you must be smart” always buy into it. Don’t get me wrong, I listen to Wright a lot but, that doesn’t mean I live and die by his opinion and doesn’t mean I can’t smell BS at times. Just because he’s right about some things doesn’t mean he’s right about everything.
Yeah, that whole Charles-Carthon controversy has really destroyed the team, huh?

Apparently, he's never been wrong.
So yeah, Charles is probably on suicide watch.

He didn’t just make that up. Chiefs are likely reporting his as questionable so the Broncos don’t get too married to preparing as though they won’t have him. He’s right more often than not on this stuff. (McCluster recently, for example)

I cant stand to listen to him
the guy sounds and now that i think of it looks like Horshack for welcome back kotter
Chiefs will be competing for a division title in 2010
His isn't that bad
although I agree it isn’t wonderful, and he is the first to admit it. Besides, his is much better than Fescoe. And while the people at 810 have better ‘radio voices’, they like to play fast and loose with the facts and generally bring themselves across as disgusting human beings.

:D Definitely
Some people have decent voices, but sound kind of harsh over the radio. He is one of those guys.
We need Flowers badly if Bates is out.
Bates played awesome against seattle. Only allowed catch I recall was when he messed up his leg. I think he could be a great CB in the future. I dont think with our pass rush we will win this game with Carr playing one on one against Brandon Lloyd.
I won't be surprised to see some creative blitzes to give Orton less time to find targets.
CBs won’t have to maintain position as long.

Questionable = Out, but we don't want to tell Denver.

Joel
Way to cover up for your boy by using ‘not expected to play’ as opposed to Wright using the term ‘out.’
I am guessing Wright is correct, though.
Who is Joel's boy?
In any case, it’s not exactly a huge breaking story to suggest that Flowers is out. When a hamstring injury keeps you out of two weeks of practice and one game, you don’t just all of a sudden play in a game before you can even practice. Especially when Todd Haley is the coach.

I'm just needling Joel
And I’m referring to Nick Wright…who has been wrong before.
It’s also different for you or I to suggest Flowers is out, than to post as a ‘scoop’ that Flowers is out.
Again, I’m guessing he’s right, and I wasn’t being real serious…but I don’t trust NW’s ‘reporting’ because of his history.
Gotcha.
I was just saying that it was an easy guess on Wright’s part. Like you, I don’t trust his reporting, but I’m not sure that was even the case here.
I spilled spot remover on my dog... now he's gone.
Completely right that it was an easy guess.
But the exact text reads:
Scoop- #Chiefs CB Brandon Flowers OUT this Sunday against the #Broncos. Travis Daniels expected to start in his place.
That seems like reporting to me, not speculating. And again, he’s probably going to end up being right.
And I was mainly giving Joel a hard time for maybe softening the statement from OUT to not expected to play.
Oh yeah, it was presented as reporting.
But that doesn’t necessarily mean it wasn’t just an educated guess.
I spilled spot remover on my dog... now he's gone.
In my opinion
The most important player we need to step up is a 2nd receiver, whether it be tucker, copper, dex, moeaki, someone. Bailey is still capable of shutting bowe down, who incidentally has only one other 100 tx. game in his career against Denver outside of this year (105 yrs. in 2007). We need another playmaker in the passing game to step up this week.

That should be...
“100 yds. in his career” and “105 yds. in 2007”. Thanks, smart phone, for correcting my abbreviations :-)

I Agree with you Falcon-
We do need a second Wide to show up. Anyone know what is up with that other WR we signed to a decent contract?
I assume you're talking about Chambers?
And last I heard he was busy impregnating multiple women while wishing he knew how to play like he was trying to earn a new contract EVERY year

Yeppers!
That is the guy- Chambers.I would think they would sit him on injured reserved or something. He is obviously not ready or willing to play. Tucker looked good last week.
