Speed Kills
How many times have we heard this statement over the years. Is it true? Can one fast guy really be a game changer? Look at history for an answer, ever hear about a track guy becoming an All-Pro? Willie Gualt ring any bells? Bob Hayes? Speed Kills is a known truth in football. It's great to have it for more than one reason.
Obviously, having a guy who can stretch the field with a vertical route is useful. Many times teams will actually use two players to cover one. Think that has an advantage? You bet it does. Early in the year all the hoopla about Moss and his talent requires double teams, a safety who is then occupied allows more advantage in the run game. Hells Bells we haven't even discussed throwin the ball to our speed guy. Can you say touchdowns? Those speedy guys get the ball and the next thing you know your team is scoring more points, and having more big plays. Wow, speed really does kill. I remember Chambers came in last year and stretched the field and our O got better.
Often overlooked is the great benefit a getting to practice against speed. Just think if our secondary was practicing against Fitz, Steve Smith Calvin Johnson or Miles Austin everyday how much improved they would be. Think that the o-line would be better pass protectors if Freeney or Ware was on the team? Remember how Haley says competition is how you develop your players?
Many, myself included, ponder the use of DMC. I believe on every series he should be in motion and sent deep at least once. We do not even have to throw the ball to him. Do you think he would rate a safety with the nickel corner? on a running play no less? It's fun to wonder what we do with Dex in the long run, but we still need a speedy deep threat opposite DBowe.
Ok, so we all know speed kills and we need a wr who has speed to burn. A guy who can stretch the field and make our secondary better, a guy who is capable of the big play. It's a no brainer, right? The next draft has a couple of burners in it so we might get one there. Maybe free agency lands us one. Maybe I am wrong and Matt cannot throw deep here like in NE so we don't need a deep threat. Maybe Scotty thinks it isn't a need. Who knows how he decides what to bring in. All I know is that I would like a speed guy on the outside. Go Chief's!!

Right on bro...
We need atleast one consistant ‘deep burn’ alongside of DBowe…n interesting comment on Chambers. We gotta get oline and WR preference coming draft.
Chiefs Football is Wichita State Shockers Football !
BIll Parcells played as LB at Wichita !!!
I was on Chamber's bandwagon, with my fingers crossed, hoping he would excel
after a new contract, but he proves he is only an entertainer looking to get paid instead of a football player. I am surprised he is still with the team.
I was on his bandwagon as well as most folks I think.
He had a big impact last season IMO. I’m very surprised he has allowed a rookie to beat him out of the spot that was his to lose. Or at least I thought it was his to lose based on last season. Kind of makes sense now why SD cut him. I’m on the VT bandwagon now. But I think that’s just by default.
they don't practice at full speed so there's no benefit to this ...

we could send Dex deep and not throw to him, but it woul;d be a waste of his talents … I’d rather see him from the slot and/or the backfield, along with his return dities … even the slot isn’t ideal as he has a tendency to “get lost” among taller guys …

Bowe’s made some big plays and isn’t a burner … when he was on that 6 or 7 game tear scoring all those TDs, nobody said a word about “we need someone else!” …

not saying it’s a “bad idea” per se, but we have way too many holes to fix all over … the team is built around speed anyway (more than simply physical strength) … we have a pretty “quick” Oline (sadly they get overpowered at times) and we have great speed and youth in our Secondary (sadly their inexperience gets them beat at times) … we have speed in the backfield with Charles, and Dex, speed with Arenas, and Berry and Lewis and Flowers and Carr … speed kills, but sometimes ya gotta power up out there

hi, Mo! 5 minutes!!!
Ups, if they don'tpractice some at full speed they never develop timing.
The seven on seven drills come to mind. Also it provides endurance training for game conditions. As for Dex, he needs to work on getting seperation from the bigger DB’s and if tying up a safety is a waste of his talents on run plays oh well. It’s not like we are using him to much as it is .
this is true and I wonder why ... zero touches last week, that really had me puzzled
It’s not like we are using him to much as it is

This is a very good topic dubld -
I’ve noticed in recent threads that it is being discussed more and more often..
A Speed guy is our #1 draft need hands down! He’s gotta be someone who can get separation, vertically stretch the field, and – track and catch the ball.

Thanks 62
I wanted Dez Bryant instead of Berry, he’s out but incredibly talented, but his top end speed was questioned. Oh well as the Stones sing, " you can’t always get what you want". Berry is working out OK but I am not sure he is having as much impact as some think.
given all the hype before the draft, one might have thought he could play the entire Secondary area by himself
Berry is working out OK but I am not sure he is having as much impact as some think
I do understand why we took him over Bryant or any other WR, we definitely upgraded the Secondary with Berry, Lewis and Arenas, and you not only “Can’t Always Get What You Wnat” you can’t usually get all of what you want at the same time
small steps, we’re getting there

The numbers show different
Just against TE the Chiefs D has improved a lot. This year we are ranked 4th in total yards to TE (481 Yards) and 7th in TD’s to TE (3 TD’s). We are 8th in Completion % (Caught/Targeted 58.11%). In 2009 we were 15th in total yards (757 Yards), 16th in TD’s allowed (6 TD’s) and 19th in Completion % (65.37%). Most of the credit goes to Berry for that improvement. He is second on the team in Tackles (76), Tied for 4th in Sacks (2), 4th in Pass Defended (7), 1st in interceptions (3) and you can throw in a forced fumble. I would say he is doing better than OK and has really improved since the 1st three games. Berry is our Rookie of Year and I would have to put 3rd in Defensive MVP on the Chiefs behind DJ and Hali but it is close between Hali and Berry.

Skill and speed kills
purse speed makes you a Raider
All those top end receivers you mentioned...
play on teams with horrible defenses. It doesn’t seen like their presence is doing much to help out their current teams. Just saying…
