We're a few hours from gaining some clarity into the Matt Cassel injury situation. The Kansas City Chiefs will release their injury report this afternoon and, it it's what we expect, Cassel will be the only name on there. The Chiefs will rule him as out, doubtful, questionable or probable for Sunday's game against the St. Louis Rams.
Cassel was back at practice again on Friday which makes it three straight practices for him. Bob Gretz of BobGretz.com has the details of Cassel's practice but it looks like more of the same which the last two days has been "limited" according to the Chiefs.
So we're back to waiting. Around 3:00 p.m. this afternoon, or earlier, the Chiefs will release the injury report. My guess is that Cassel is listed as questionable because that would keep his status questionable (pun!) for the St. Louis Rams. I imagine the Rams have a good idea of who the starter will be and the Chiefs aren't making them guess too much.
As we've said before, what the Chiefs and Cassel say doesn't matter a whole lot because it all comes down to reps at practice. If Cassel is getting most of the first team reps, he'll play. If he's not, he probably won't. The Chiefs have been mum on who's getting the majority of the reps but it sounds like Cassel's been getting his work in. We'll see this afternoon.
