KC Chiefs Bring Back CB Mike Richardson; Release LB Justin Cole

The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Wednesday that they have signed CB Mike Richardson, who was with the club in 2009 and 2010 training camp. The Chiefs released Richardson on Sept. 3 of this year prior to the final cut down day before the season. He has KC connections all over the place including his entry into the league with Scott Pioli and the New England Patriots and his college career at Notre Dame under Charlie Weis.

The Chiefs also announced the release of LB Justin Cole, who was an undrafted free agent with the Chiefs this year. He wasn't active in any games this year so his presence will only be missed on the practice field.

Bringing in a cornerback brings up an obvious question: Is Brandon Flowers OK?

Star-divide

The Chiefs cornerback was injured against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 11 and did not play in Week 12 against the Seattle Seahawks. The Chiefs had a combination of players replace him including Jackie Bates, Travis Daniels and Javier Arenas.

Signing a cornerback does make you think Flowers could be out another week -- or more. The Chiefs will conduct practice today and we'll find out a little later what Flowers' status is. If he can't go, it will bring up memories of the Chiefs and Broncos first game in which KC was missing two players in the secondary -- Kendrick Lewis and Jon McGraw. The result was...well, not pretty.

The Chiefs also reportedly worked out free agent CB Tye Hill after Flowers' injury.

Bates played a lot better than I expected last Sunday

Bates knee must be bad

I think this may have more to do with Jackie Bates going out with a knee injury. sounds like Flowers may be out again this week, but now we need depth.

Ahhh....football season is upon us. For this years silly predictions: 1.) Chiefs go 8-8, 2.) We rack up 2700 yds rushing this year, 3.) Defense ranked 14th

This sounds about right to me.

Agree

I think this is more about MasterBates being hurt, out & Chiefs needing depth. Hoping BFlowers can play Sunday, but I guess we’ll see.

+1 Zodeman

Mike Richardson won’t be asked to replace Brandon Flowers. We need depth at CB and Richardson knows our defense.

Also we will have to be in our sub packages a lot in the upcoming games against Denver and San Diego, so we need as much able bodies as we can get. We had way too many linebackers on the 53-man roster anyway.

I am hoping Bates and Flowers can get healthy, because every game is a must-win at this point.

Don't forget that...

… Jackie Bates got nicked up and it was his absence that led to Daniels being in the game (read: making the pick).

Could just be backup depth too.

Damnit...

Zodeman on the topic first!

THis news does not portend well for our Chiefs.

Orton may not be Mr. Football, but he has at times this season played like he thinks he is. We could very well see an aerial shootout unlike any game we have played so far this year. Haley will not want to get too far behind if Orton is having success. Yuck. Matty may indeed find his fourth 400+ yard game.

We just need to jump out on the quick

The Broncos seem to cave after getting behind..

Flower's twitter account...

This had me wondering this morning…

“Mannn wtf? Its official…I’m pissed off for the whole day now…going into anti social mode”

I have no clue what he is talking about but I hope it has nothing to do with his injury.

The 2010 Kansas City Chiefs draft class will go down in history as one of the single greatest draft classes in the history of the league.

Hopefully,

He was just told he’s out for this Sunday.

by ICTChief on Dec 1, 2010 11:54 AM CST up reply actions

Yeah I saw that in the middle of the night.

It was posted at like 4am, so kind of weird if he had officially just gotten some injury related news at that point. But who knows.

Also kind of weird considering the time he posted it if he had early practice to get to…ok, now I’m reading too much into it.

I'll bet that

they bring Cole back on the practice squad and release Bakhtiari.

Just let him go, Scotty

Let him go. How many times are you going to kick the tires on this dude? If he wasn’t the answer the first time, wasn’t the answer the second time, I’m guessing he ain’t going be the third time

They need bodies, and he knows the system.

I’m pretty sure they know he’s not a long term solution.

I have an inferiority complex, but it's not a very good one.

Say's something about what they saw in Hill too

Because I recall Richardson being pretty bad at times last year. There was one game inparticular that he was beat repeatedly.

That said, he will be a quicker study since he was here through camp.

What about trying out Jason Allen?

I don’t recall him being picked up already and he’s a former 1st round pick. I’m sure Pioli knows a guy who knows about him.

This is really going to hurt our LB depth.

Calling it now

No B.Flower, no win for the Chiefs. We can’t beat Denver without Flowers starting, they have to many weapons at WR for what would be left of our secondary.
