Remember When...
So I'm sick and tired of thinking about the Raiders game. We lost, for a lot of different reasons, and that really bites. I can't seem to shake the negative feeling that is hovering over me like a cloud, though.
So what to do? Well, there's this option
But... my current depression seems to be giving me this attitude
So naturally, the best thing to do for my laziness is clearly a fanpost that will restore my good mood and give me a little peace of mind. But what? After all, we just came off a tough road loss and are now only a half game up in our division. My Chiefs let me down this Sunday with a very, very sloppy game. What could possibly cheer me up after that?
Then I was given an order
Well, I'm hardly going to argue with one of the Founding Fathers, am I? At least, I think he's one of the Founding Fathers... I suppose he could just be some fella on a horse in a hat... but I digress.
To get to the point, I thought that perhaps others here could use a little pick-me-up (especially with Porkchop onto bigger and better things), so here you go. I want to take you down memory lane with a little game I'm going to call "Remember When". So...
Remember when...
Derrick Johnson was trade bait that would never be better than WILDLY inconsistent?
Matt Cassel was throwing just as many interceptions as touchdowns?
Romeo Crennel was over the hill and out of touch, as proven by his Cleveland Browns teams?
Todd Haley had lost the locker room and would never be able to lead this team?
Jamaal Charles was ready to quit because he was never going to get more than 10 carries in a game (I know, I know, he didn't get a lot on Sunday. Turns out he was a little hurt. So that's that) and was "humiliated" by our assistant coach?
Do you also remember when...
Brandon Albert would never make a good LT?
Ron Edwards was a horrible NT?
Shaun Smith wouldn't be able to make a difference on the line?
Casey Weigmann and Ryan Lilja weren't going to help the O-line?
Our team was "under investigation" for our "mistreatment of Page" (man, how quick did THAT little drama evaporate...) and was falling apart?
Great memories all! While were on the subject, do you remember when...
Corey Mays was a starting ILB?
We had the slowest safety tandem in the NFL?
people were complaining about our draft class? (granted, that was a short-lived experience)
Sean Ryan was our starting TE?
Barry Richardson was a revolving door at RT?
Man, this nostalgia is making me teary-eyed. Remember when...
Tamba Hali would never be a great pass rusher?
Glenn Dorsey was a "bust"?
We were considered a reach to win more than 5-6 games this year?
Dexter McCluster was too small and slow to be an impact player? (Get well soon Dex! We need you!)
We thought it was a huge improvement to have 22 sacks an entire season, because we were coming off a season with 10? (We're on pace for 38, in case you were wondering)
Man oh man, a few more memories before I'm done. Remember when...
We had the 4th worst defense in the NFL in points allowed at 26.5 per game?
We had one of the worst offenses in the league?
We were giving up an average of almost 3 sacks a game?
We had no players that even WE thought were worthy of Pro Bowl consideration?
Last, but not least, my favorite memory (in a way). Remember when...
We were 1-7 through our first 8 games of the year?
I remember. Now let's go beat the Donkeys.

Thank you for that MN!
Rec’d, much appreciated, and probably a necessity if we lose again. I’ve been sitting in my office fighting the urge to look at the game rewind. Now I can let go….
I was mad as $#%@ when we drafted Dexter McCluster and now I'm ordering his jersey......oh the irony! Go Chiefs!
No problem
I just needed a little perspective.
I think our team has spoiled us a little with such a quick turnaround. It’s good to remember where we’re coming from and what we expected at this time last year.
I love my wife, my kids, and the Chiefs. In that order. Except on game days.
This post came at the rite time...
Great job once again with your post. U must b professional lol
When you fail to prepare, you prepare to fail.
Jamaal above all. #25 ftw.
CHIEFS WILL!

Nah, the only real pro on here is Bewsaf
Well… and Kalo. Come to think of it, Yoon’s good too. And RNG. And ups. And…
You know what, why don’t I just go ahead and say we’re spoiled here?
I love my wife, my kids, and the Chiefs. In that order. Except on game days.
Remember when
Bobby Bouche showed up at half time and the mud dogs won the Bourbon Bowl?
LOL, i just couldn’t resist
I love it when a plan comes together!

Great post MN; perspective is everything, we ALREADY have one more win than all of last yr’s, and with 8 games remaining. That’s one heck of an improvement: one more ass kicking draft, and we should be knocking on home field advantage for one or more play-off games. Cue Jim Mora……..PLAYOFFFS !!!! …..yer talkin’ about PLAYOFFFFS ???? Yes, Jim, playoffs….
Playoffs!
I think if we even have a half-decent draft next year we’ll be in business. If Pioli knocks it out of the park again? Yikes.
I love my wife, my kids, and the Chiefs. In that order. Except on game days.
Good stuff bro
I remember…..saying I’d be happy with an 8-8 record before the season began. Now I feel a little like a greedy fan. I want us to WIN the division, and finish at least 10-6. Haha, my how time changes things….

I know
We’ve gotten used to winning already (kind of).
I love my wife, my kids, and the Chiefs. In that order. Except on game days.
Don't like remembering those things.
It hurts so much. But feels good to be winning again!!
Yes it does
And those were some dark, dark times…

You know times are better when a loss hurts this bad!

Exactly
We’re not numb to it anymore. Last year, the year before, and before… this was the status quo. Now it stings.
I love my wife, my kids, and the Chiefs. In that order. Except on game days.
Good point
I was almost surprised at myself about how mad I was following the loss. It hasn’t stung like that for a few years now!

Thank You MN!!
This is the EXACT same stuff I have been trying to tell my hubby since that loss-actually after every loss we have had this year. Its so easy to forget where we were last year, the year before etc. I can remember coming on AP last year during the season & it was brutal.
So thanks again MN for saying exactly what was on my mind! Always a pleasure to read your posts…

Your welcome. And thanks
It was nice to write about how far we’ve come, rather than merely being bummed out about the game.
Onto the Donkeys!

hi, Mo! 5 minutes!!!
OK... fine
The funny thing about Porkchop is he got this rep for being such a homer, yet he was pretty level-headed and predicted no more than 8 wins for us this season…

You're crazy
that guy was drunk off his own Kool Aid!

Remember when we used to have a weekly glass of koolaid to cheer us up
after a tough loss?
To make a bad day worse, spend it wishing for the impossible.
I've had the same dream every night this week. I think it means that the spring season flopped and my subconscious has gone into reruns.
And that glass was needed every week?

Let me add some things from my memory bank
REMEMBER WHEN…
- “You play to win the game” was the intellectual highlight of our former coach?
- Tyler Thigpen was thought of as “the future.”
- 2.7 was our leader in jersey sales.
It’s a good time to be a Chiefs fan. Try to remember that.
Those are 3 very good ones

hi, Mo! 5 minutes!!!
I remember when
I didn’t care after we lost because I expected it. I’m not going to lie, I actually got watery-eyed reading that. LETS GO CHIEFS!!
We're the same team as last year, except incredibly better, and with new players.
Remember when 10 out of 11 guys on defense couldn't tackle?

Remember when...
Remember those sweet, warm New England summers? Remember sipping lemonade underneath a shady tree? Remember when you hit that pedestrian with your car at the crosswalk and then just drove away? Pepperidge Farm remembers, but Pepperidge farm ain’t just gonna keep it to Pepperidge farms self free of charge… Maybe you go out and buy yourself some of these distinctive Milano cookies… maybe this whole thing disappears.

hi, Mo! 5 minutes!!!
Remember when...
watching or listening to a game was not to see if they would win, but how bad they would lose? I wish I could erase listening to the games against the Cowboys and the Browns last year….ugh….
At least in those games
We provided highlights before losing. That was about as good as it got…
I love my wife, my kids, and the Chiefs. In that order. Except on game days.
Nice...
All things are subject to change. May need to review this post again at the end of the year.
Haha sorry

+1. Should be required reading prior to posting in the next game day thread :)
Can anyone tell I"m impressed? I don’t need any damn KoolAid. Reality is just as sweet!
Exactly
I don’t go on those, because I can’t watch the game until after 11 (NFL Rewind), but I hear it’s getting a little ridiculous.

Suffice to say there's more drama than a soap opera. The only thing missing are people talking in tongues.

Great stuff here MN
I think that everyone’s hopes got up with our fast start (and for good reason). But we have to remember we aren’t that far removed from all of the things that you said.
I said I’d be happy with 8-8 before the year started. That seems like it would be very disappointing now but we would still have doubled our win total 2 years in a row. I think our legitimate shot at a superbowl will be 2011+. We are still a very young team that is learning and as much as we all know now what a learning experience last year was for this team. We’ve got to believe that Haley is doing all the right things to build on for the future with these games (and tough losses) just like he did last year.
A Rec for you sir.
Playoffs????? You wanna talk about Playoffs????
Yes.
Thanks. And I agree
I don’t see us ending up 8-8, as it would take (like you said) a pretty rough ending, but even then it would be a huge leap in a single year.
I believe in Haley. His improved demeanor alone this year won me over.
I also agree about 2011 and onward. Especially if Pioli has another draft like he did this year.
