Cut Bowe some slack

I've had enough of people dogging Dwayne Bowe. No one, myself included, can deny Bowe has issues with catching passes. He's had this issue since we drafted him in 2007. Carl Peterson and Herm Edwards knew what they were getting when they drafted Bowe; A physical receiver who may not have the speed to stretch the field, but the physicality to make the catch and fight for every yard possible. Scott Pioli and Todd Haley knew exactly what Peterson and Edwards knew when they took over. He had issues with catching the ball but can be an asset to an offense. Regardless of whether Bowe had Tony Gonzalez to draw coverage away from him during his strong first two seasons, you can't take away a 1,000 yard season from him.

So far this season no other Kansas City Chief WR, except some flashes from Dexter McCluster, has been able to be a threat in the passing game. Chris Chambers has proven that he is a lazy player who only played for a contract last season. He showed last season that he can be effective with Matt Cassel. So why is he not putting up any significant numbers? And for that matter why is no one calling him out for being lazy when he clearly has the ability. Instead of calling out the guy that's failing, I see everyone shouting "get rid of Bowe at the end of the season, he's inconsistent". Yes Bowe is inconsistent and drops easy passes, but take him out of the offense this year and what have you got? Nothing. Bowe has caught 7 TDs. The next best is Tony Moeaki with 2 TDs. This equals Bowe's career best in TDs in a season and it's only been half a season.

Perhaps what Dwayne Bowe needs is another receiving option to take some of the pressure off him. Now that we have a TE in Tony Moeaki, who's making some plays, Dwayne Bowe is putting up career numbers. Maybe Dwayne Bowe is too inconsistent to be a true number 1 WR, But don't say that he needs to go. First round WRs are crapshoots in the draft. We all know that. If we got rid of Bowe we would be hinging all the hopes of our passing offense on an unproven rookie. If we draft a 1st round WR in next year's draft who turns out to be half decent and picks up some of the slack from Chris Chambers, imagine how much better Bowe and our passing offense as a whole improves.

Bowe has done nothing but put up good numbers this season and people want to throw him under the bus. Bowe has also been great as a down field blocker for our running game. Bowe has dropped passes at crucial times in games (Indy and Oakland), but it's a team sport. Many other players missed tackles, dropped passes, blew their blocking assignment or under/overthrew the receiver that cost us plays. All those missed oppurtunities can be equally of fault for hurting us in games. Players don't lose games, teams lose games. I'd like to see someone say "hey Dwayne Bowe has actually improved this year" because you know what, he has improved. A LOT!!!
