No Big Deal

We are half way through the season and we have had some pleasant surprises and disappointments. But, would we have accepted a half game lead in the AFC west with 7 games to go before the season started? I would venture to say that 9 out of 10 people would have taken it in a heartbeat. I believe we are playing above our potential right now. We are acting like we are one year ahead of where we really are, but thanks to the easy schedule we have a chance to be tops of our division by seasons end. And we will be...

We have won 8 straight contest at Oakland. The odds that we would win this game historically were slim to none, considering the much improved Raider roster that was put on the field. We will win our home game against the Raiders as well as the Broncos. Arizona at home may be our easiest game of the year, and yes that includes Buffalo. So, in my estimation to win this division the Chiefs need to win 5 our of their next 7 games. That means we could assume a loss to TN at home, and have to win at St. Louis and Denver. I think we are a better team then them without any homerism fantasies. San Diego will have to run the table to win the division if we successfully complete this task. One loss and its over for them. The Raiders of course would have the slack of one game. But, they have to face Pittsburgh and San Diego on the road still as well as Indy before they see us the regular season finale.

So call me crazy for assuming the Chiefs are still the favorites to win the west. We have 4 home games left and two weak opponents on the road. They could have made it less dramatic today by winning, but like I said, I think we are playing above our potential right now and it is good enough to win the division. It bodes well for us since next years schedule is going to be 4 times harder than this years. We will have to go against New England, NYJ, and probably the Steelers and Colts as 1/4th of our games. The good news is we only have two key starters declining (Weigman and Waters) and 11 key starters improving or staying at elite levels. (Moeaki, Berry, McCluster, Arenas, Asamoah, Jackson, DJ, Flowers, Charles, Albert, and Hali). The future is bright and as long as our GM has draft picks we will be a perennial force in the AFC west. Basically, there is nothing to sweat Chiefs fans. We are number one and it will be like that for at least 18 months.
