Brandon Flowers' Injury Keeps Him Out Of Chiefs Practice

Photo

Somewhat overlooked in the aftermath of the Kansas City Chiefs beat down of the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday is a couple of key injuries, but possibly none more important than CB Brandon Flowers.

Flowers left Sunday's game with what the Chiefs called a hamstring injury. Kent Babb of the KC Star reports Flowers did not practice on Wednesday for the start of KC's preparation for the Seattle Seahawks. We're not sure what the injury or how severe it is or if it's just a day of rest for Flowers.

Losing Flowers for any stretch of time would be a blow to the Chiefs but I'll go out on a limb here and say they could handle missing him on Sunday. The Seahawks aren't a huge threat offensively so, if he were to miss anytime, it would ideally be against the Seahawks and not the following two weeks against the pass-heavy Denver Broncos and San Diego Chargers.

We're also awaiting injury news on TE Tony Moeaki, S Jon McGraw, LT Brandon Albert and WR Dexter McCluster. The Star has more practice info here.

I hope he can play come sunday.

All the more reason to draft a good CB in this years draft. If we had one more good CB our defense would be more effective, IMO.

I thought we did have more than one "good" CB.

I thought it broke down like this:

Promising rookie CB, good RCB, elite LCB…

Matt Cassel drives a bulldozer.

One more good one doesn't mean we only have one good one.

You could have four good CBs and still want one more good one.

I have an inferiority complex, but it's not a very good one.

Misread the post... my bad CPT.

Thought you said “more than one”… not “one more”

Carr gets used all the time.

Is he really that good, or just the best we have at this point to put out there? I wouldn’t even classify B.Flowers as Elite, he doesn’t have elite speed and can be beat deep, very good maybe, elite no.
Do you think J.Arenas can be our #2 CB, will he be that good, i guess we’ll find out if Flowers doesn’t play. IMO we need to pick a CB early because if a player like Flowers gets hurt we still have good depth at that position and the player that fills his shoe is a least as ggod as Carr or better.
Depth at CB: B.Flowers, B.Carr, J.Arenas, M.Leggett if healthy thats not to bad, but with one key injury we;re in trouble IMO. I say draft B.Harris in the first round and solve that problem.

Did you watch Carr play last week?

He had at least 2 knockdowns and at least one jarring hit that caused an incompletion. And didn’t he cover Reggie Wayne exclusively against IND? Carr is a pretty damn good CB. Not as good as Flowers, no, but I think we’re a little spoiled if we think we should expect to have 2 Flowers-like CBs. I bet you that there are around 25 teams in the NFL that would love Carr as their starting CB.

And Flowers is Elite as in he’s easily a top 5 CB in the AFC. That’s what I mean by elite. Very few CBs will have that perfect combination of speed, athleticism, coverage skill and toughness, but Flowers has a good enough mix to put him in the conversation as a top CB.

Although I do agree we need at least one more “good” CB… Flowers, Arenas and Carr just aren’t enough.

It appears to me, in watching the tapes, that Carr has been steadily improving.

If coach Thomas is able to continue Carr’s improvement, Carr may soon become a very good CB. His primary problem in the past was not looking back for the ball and not making a play on it. When he does so regularly, and improves his footwork, he’ll be a perfect cover man, because he has the speed and height.

sit them out.

If they are iffy then this is the game to sit them. We need them more for donkies, faiders and bolts.

This injury could hurt us

if flowers cant go look 4 the hawks to use play action alot this sunday..golden tate and dieon butler will be ready to take advantage.

Though, to be fair

That was Babb’s assessment after watching a portion of practice. The official injury report will come out around 3:00 p.m.

We need Dex back badly

Flowers would be a huge loss but getting Dex back can only further improve the offense.

by golfbard on Nov 24, 2010 1:09 PM CST up reply actions

I love me some Dex

But his value isn’t in the same ballpark as Flowers.

by kcsno56 on Nov 24, 2010 1:12 PM CST up reply actions

No I agree.. I'm not saying that...

Just sayin.. we need Dex.. I guess I should’ve said but…

Flowers would be a huge loss and definitely bigger than Dex

by golfbard on Nov 24, 2010 1:25 PM CST up reply actions

F!

Flowers is as important as any player on D, his loss would be huge, Mike Williams or no Mike Williams.

Not to mention to a hamstring injury...

a hammy kept Revis out for like 3 weeks or something

Crap

Our depth (or lack thereof) is costing us.

Hopefully, if he can’t go this week…it’s not something that will keep him out for multiple games.

Chiefs will. But...will Cassel?

10 + wins in 2010. Chiefs SHOCK the NFL!!! Mark it down.

Off the subject a bit

Haven’t been to “new stadium”. Last up there during start of construction two seasons ago. How are seats numbered..if I have seat 5 and 6 would it be at far left of start of row toward center of field or towards the end zone or middle of the section?

by Turkeyleg on Nov 24, 2010 12:51 PM CST reply actions

Obviously depends on which side you’re sitting, but I have 7-10 and they’re around the middle of the row. If you’re looking towards the field 6-1 are to the right and 8-10 are to the left.

If someone asks you if you want extra mayonnaise you have to say yes, cus that's part of it.

Sorry, meant to say that 11 and over are to the left.

by JComp11 on Nov 24, 2010 12:53 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah, it’s a smaller section so I’m not sure how long the rows are, but if you’d rotate the other side around then the lower numbers would be on the endzone side. I’m sure someone here sits around that area.

Seats

Your seats should be the 5th and 6th off of the isle between 114 & 115

On a note about some complaints about Carr..

I think he gets unfairly judged because he plays with Flowers…one, they may challenge Carr more (haven’t looked at those stats) but also to match them up against each other is not really fair to Carr

by Turkeyleg on Nov 24, 2010 1:03 PM CST reply actions   1 recs

The one thing that hurts to have Flowers out is

That the secondary is starting to gel in how they play together, the injury to Lewis put them back a step and it could be seen. Would hope that he is out only one game if any so that teamwork can peak at the right time

by Turkeyleg on Nov 24, 2010 1:05 PM CST reply actions

I'd say there are a bunch of things

considering he is, if not our best player, our second best player.

Matt Hasselbeck threw for a season high 366 yards against the #1 ranked Saints passing defense.

Chris Spencer, Kelly Jennings, Deion Branch, Lawrence Jackson, and Aaron Curry. Tim Ruskell's putrid legacy lives on.

by Fearless Frog on Nov 24, 2010 1:15 PM CST via mobile reply actions

have anything to do with playing from behind the entire game?

Cassel threw for 450 a couple weeks ago, we aren’t exactly pumped about that performance for some reason.

What's the difference between jelly and jam?

This wasn't about a prevent defense

Hasselbeck put up 250 yards in the first half and the Seahawks lead or within a TD for much of the 1st half. The Saints never let off the gas, even passing at the endzone with 20 seconds left on the clock.

Given time, Matt can carve up an elite pass defense.

I'm probably going to get blasted........... but,

having Flowers miss a game could actually be a good thing for us in Seattle. I hate having him injured, and hope he comes back just as quick as the rest of you, but, it might actually force RC to use more blitz packages. I can’t help but think how much better off we’d be if we would blitz a bit more.

by VChiefsFan on Nov 24, 2010 1:17 PM CST reply actions

I'm not going to blast you...

but I find it amusing how some people can turn any negative into a positive. I wish I had your optimism.

Well, I have plenty of the latter. ;)

I think being a fan that long has caused me not to be so optimistic. Too much heartbreak when you assume the best, given this team’s history.

I have an inferiority complex, but it's not a very good one.

by Tarkus on Nov 24, 2010 1:30 PM CST up reply actions

I'm going to agree that we need to step up the blitz packages

And I think they are in the plans, but the injuries have actually kept us from doing that…but despite the injuries, I see us going after Hasselbeck this week to ramp up our intensity for down the stretch

by Turkeyleg on Nov 24, 2010 3:45 PM CST up reply actions

love how you tried to find a positive there...but really there is nothing good about a game without brandon flowers

anyone who remembers when he went down for a quarter here and there can pretty much agree with that. I think it was even in 08 when flowers was out and there was such a difference in our overall D because of how he tackles as well

Travis Daniels?

Or maybe Ricky Price…….

by three7s on Nov 24, 2010 1:22 PM CST up reply actions

My guess is that Arenas would get more PT. The official depth chart has Travis Daniels as his back up, but who knows with Haley.

Arenas has impressed me with his coverage

He always seems to be right there, hitting the receiver right as the ball arrives.

I wouldn’t mind him getting more PT, but it would definitely be a loss of ability from Flowers to Arenas.

I love my wife, my kids, and the Chiefs. In that order. Except on game days.

by MNchiefsfan on Nov 24, 2010 1:45 PM CST up reply actions

he also has had a few plays where if he saw how close he was, he had a nice pick. good sign.

not like carr in terms of on a deep ball…but I remember multiple instances where he knocks away a 7-12 yard pass like a square out and probably next year thats an INT instead of just an incomplete

I agree

And he already seems more “aware” than Carr.

Good blitzer too.

Arenas and Carr start

And maybe JC takes a few returns back to the house……hmmm….interesting! (I know it’ll probably not happen, but we could get away with that since TJ starts out the game usually anyway!)

by KCinIL on Nov 24, 2010 2:47 PM CST up reply actions

This would be my hope...

but the drawback is who plays the dime/nickle package in his spot.

Go Chiefs!!!!

by ravenhawk on Nov 24, 2010 3:02 PM CST up reply actions

no flowers = lots of weeds

Carr = dandelion (at best, a common weed)
Arenas = a sprout ( a flower sprout I hope)
The rest = tumbleweeds.

I wouldn't underestimate Hasselbeck

He threw for a good chunk of yds last week. We are not the best in pass coverage yet.
