Last Night, Tyler Thigpen Was....Tyler Thigpen
I'm not going to lie. I had high hopes for former Kansas City Chiefs QB Tyler Thigpen last night. Unfortunately, Thigpen let me down by....being Tyler Thigpen. I even signed him to my fantasy football team and started him yesterday. Yeah, I blew it.
Thigpen led the Miami Dolphins' offense to....zero points. Granted, the Chicago Bears defense is pretty good this year but still. If you watched the game, you saw the Tyler Thigpen we all know. Hard running. Erratic at times. Flashes of potential but nothing consistent.
Thigpen was 17/29 for 187 yards. He threw one pick and should have had at least one more but Lance Briggs dropped the INT. He did not throw any touchdowns. He also had 27 rushing yards on 6 attempts.
I think some fans of certain NFL teams will still be clamoring for Thigpen, a 2011 free agent, to come their way. He was fun to watch last night even if he didn't produce any points. How many of you think Thigpen is going to be a "sought" after free agent this year?
Check out the full highlights of the game last night on NFL.com.

I don't think he did anything to solidify his demand
Granted, Miami’s offensive line looked horrible. And the Bears looked old-school. But the announcers didn’t have much nice to say about Thiggy. My guess is he continues to bounce around the league as a 3rd stringer.

There is a reason Miami is down to their third QB.

Miami had zero running game. Almost literally.
Thigpen WAS the Miami offense. I couldn’t see the game but a box score like that tells me the OL was steamrolled the whole game.
Strive for greatness, Red and Gold.
7 rushing attempts by your RB's is not going to help win a game...
7!! What was the OC thinking? Thigpen never had a chance.

Chicago stacked the box all night and forced thiggy to throw
their running game wasn’t doing anything against the bears stacked line
come on, Chris ... one game isn't an indicator of ability or of possible future success
… but then too, we also know that he could have done MUCH better and even THAT wouldn’t be an indicator in a true sense
I think he COULD be a starter for SOME teams … get him on a team with a STONG line and good RBs, let’s say Philly … let him run it, a few times, keep the defense back, then a toss here and there, another run, more tosses … on the RIGHT team he could be effective enough to win
on the WRONG team … well, it’s a team sport and the team lost, right? right!

hi, Mo! 5 minutes!!!
I wouldn't design many runs for him, if any.
But I’d practice some street ball between the WRs and him, for when his feet buy him time. If the D doesn’t contain him, he SHOULD be willing to run with it, but not as part of a plan; rather, it’s more of a contingency.
He's got quicks that are reminiscent of Vick.
I think he’d be a good backup for Vick. They could keep the same game plan, if Vick were injured.
Oh please.
He legs looked like they were in quicksand, compared to Vick. And I’m not just talking about running, but escaping pressure in the pocket. Vick is freakishly good at escaping what look like sacks. Thigpen? Not so much.
I have an inferiority complex, but it's not a very good one.
lol
So you are comparing Thigpen to Vick that has been in the nfl for a long time, is the starter for the team he is on, so the plays are made for him and he know the people that are protecting him.To Thigpen that had 3 days to prepare for the start? Never worked with the first team before and behind a line that has multiple starters out or banged up.
Take Vicks first time as a starter to Thigpen’s and the numbers are very close. As far as sacks go Vick’s first year he had 33 sacks and Thigpen had 28 in 4 less games so very close.

I'm not saying Thigpen will ever play like Vick is this year
not too many QB’s have.

What I saw last night didn't sour me on Thiggie.
His escapability, toughness and courage are what you need in a #3, when your O-Line can’t protect #1 and #2. If Vick gets hurt, I’m not sure how long his backup survives behind Philly’s line. Thiggie’s a guy I’d’ve kept waiting in the wings, at least. On a GOOD team (for a change), it’s hard to say what the right QB coach/OC/HC combo could do with him.
by Tarkus: I thought Thiggie looked VERY quick on the field.
The OC didn’t know what to do with it, but yes, I’d say Thiggie might come closest in the league to doing with his feet what Vick does.
I just don't see him as a full time starter
I do however, see Croyle getting some serious looks by some QB hungry teams. He is much better than what carolina and Zona have right now
"Sought"?
A lot of people here like Thigpen because he was the underdog and gave a spark to a bad season. We can be honest now though – he just isn’t that good. It’s like Sage Rosenfels. He has a few good traits but he will never be a #1, and at this rate not even a #2.
And unlike Chris, I started the Bears D the second I knew Thiggy was starting – thank you for those 18 points Thiggy.
No Help
Ronnnie Brown 3 attempts 10 yards
Ricky Williams 3 attempts 1 yard
Patrick Cobbs 1 attempt 1 yard
Thiggy… 6 rush for 27 yards. How can you say he did poorly when he out-gained all running backs in the game, except Forte? He accounted for 166 of 178 offensive yards. I can’t say he hurt himself in that game, somebody probably looked at him in awe of how tough he played.

You picked up a 3rd string QB to start on your fantasy team against the bears D??
I am at work and cant get to it, but will someone do me a favor and please post one of those “FAIL” pictures for Chris.
To make a bad day worse, spend it wishing for the impossible.
I've had the same dream every night this week. I think it means that the spring season flopped and my subconscious has gone into reruns.

OK, I understand the thought in picking Thigpen up for your fantasy team. I do.
You thought maybe you were getting a little Michael Vick, who got like 49 points last week.
But from that decision alone I know that you are not winning your league.
if by sought after you mean
Signed after training camp injuries, me. And I’m a Thiggy fan.

I wasn't pulling for Thiggy
Merely for the fact that Miami is (was) an AFC team with a decent record and I’m rooting for any team to beat a potential AFC wild card rival to our Chiefs. They (Dolphins) didn’t appear to have it together last night, but their record is what it is.
It was a terrible game plan
Miami runs the ball, runs the wildcat and did neither last night.
