The Kansas City Chiefs Release A Linebacker And Promote a Safety
With a big 'ole hat tip to Arrowhead Addict, we have word that the Kansas City Chiefs have promoted S Rickey Price to the 53-man roster while simultaneously releasing LB Charlie Anderson to make room for Price.
Price had been sitting on the practice squad for a while, seeing little action in his Chiefs career. He's a young, interchangeable guy so don't think too much about this. The promotion of a safety is perhaps an indication that the two safeties who are on the injury report this week, Kendrick Lewis and Jon McGraw, may need some extra help this weekend.
LB Charlie Anderson is your classic journeyman, special teams linebacker. He played in a copule of games this year for the Chiefs although you probably didn't hear his name. He could even be back this season on the KC roster, so don't be surprised. He does not count at all towards the roster now.
So, right now, the Chiefs have an opening on the practice squad. That spot CANNOT be filled by the released Anderson because he does not qualify for the practice squad anymore.
Expect a familiar name to be the 8th member of the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad soon.

hi, Mo! 5 minutes!!!
whats nice about a charlie anderson
is that no one will pick him up and pick his brain…he knows he eventually has a spot in KC when the roster shapes up a certain way as an extra guy….best he can do at this point
but the fact that we’re bringing up price….that scares the heck out of me that we may be without BOTH safeties tomorrow…leaving berry…d-wash…and price….YIKES

early on he showed promise on ST...I partly blame his absense for some of the decline

Wow...so i guess our safties (except for EB) will be getting torched this game....
No McGraw and no Lewis…damn…
This doesn't mean Lewis won't play
But that once again we are seriously hurting for depth at the safety position.
I just hope the chiefs watched the oregon ducks tonight
that was a demonstration of how to get a first down to run out the clock and win the game
what just happened?

we had like 18 linebackers so Im ok with this move for the long haul
and if Price is who Im thinking of he actually looked halfway decent in preseason the last 2 years
Might be his turn at bat, and Horne back on deck.
Heck, bring up Lawrence and Horne and just have ‘em run as fast as they can. Lawrence has the comeback route. Maybe he’s added another route or three to his repertoire. I’d put those two young speedsters in a rotation and just run the legs off the defenders. Throw a couple balls to that side of the field, when single coverage presents itself. Run some 3 wide sets that actually ARE scary-fast.
Given the struggles the guys in front of ‘em have been having, I’m all for trying a different in-house combo. Put up or shut up time, as some others have been suggesting. The idea has grown on me this sit-on-my-ass-and-blog-Saturday.
A number of very successful offenses do just that. Run a lot of three wides, knowing by the 3rd guy (or the TE or the HB), you
have created a real mismatch that requires extra help. Force defenses to honor it and then start running out of the same package. Enjoy enough success with that, and then just pound a tired and demoralized defense with TJ and JC.
Lewis probably plays
McGraw sits and Price backs up Berry and Lewis.

Now starts the trend....instead of having a record breaking number of the most LB's on roster with 11
We can now stockpile Safeties!
