Everyone can thank AP user Holmeslice for this Derrick Thomas image, along with anyone who rec'd up his post in order to completely break apart my previous concept for the bye week painting. Thanks alot Holmeslice :P
I was originally going to do something other than a painting for this week to spice it up a little, but it became very clear after a few emails that this was the way to go.
I had a lot of fun with this one. It had to be John (as my Dad used to call him, "Ole' Horse Lips") Elway, didn't it?
Wallpapers, to break your Chiefs (3-0) fever.
And just because I've gotten a lot of questions / emails about this recently: This is a painting done by me from scratch, using a variety of reference images, by hand with a Wacom tablet, in Photoshop :)

recd!
and thanks for doing android size wallpaper again :)
Rec'd
The only problem with these is I only have two computers (office and home) and I can’t decide which to use.
My boss just told me the other day that I have a new Chiefs wallpaper every time he looks at my screen.
Thanks and great job again, Chris
The 2010 Kansas City Chiefs draft class will go down in history as one of the single greatest draft classes in the history of the league.
wait a second
this is really photoshop?
We’ve got a lot of guys that fall into that group that are young players," "that now want to win games, want to be part of something special, something good," "That’s the plan. I know I’m not going to waiver, I know this quarterback, why I like him so much, is that he’s not going to waiver and he’s not going to crack." Todd Haley
it is
i can give you guys some close ups if there’s any interest
if rhymes were valiums, i'd be comfortably numb

Wow
I thought you painted this by hand. Now I am really intrigued in this process

very similar process
i use “brushes” in photoshop and my technique is very similar to how i would approach a gouache (opaque watercolor) painting.
In essence, I lay down color, and then blend it all around using a variety of different brushes. Just digitally.

Holy crap this is AWESOME
2010 predictions live by em die by em
- Chiefs do what they did last year and double their win total.. Good for a second place finish in the AFC West
-McCluster is considered for ROY, doesn't win it
- Arenas takes two to the house
- Carr becomes a legitimate corner
-Flowers gets jipped in Pro Bowl voting
Question
This is a painting done by me from scratch, using a variety of reference images
Does this mean that you start with a blank image and use only brushes, or that you use these reference images and edit them with brushes?
scratch from a blank canvas

Your Dad's comment is funny.
We always called him “ole horse teeth”. I’m sure we got the image from the same Monday Night game against the Chiefs, when the ball was snapped and he wasn’t ready for it. Yeeooow!
This is outstanding.
Visually, probably the best one yet. (Even though I LOVE the 3-panel McCluster one…)
The lack of a second arm is… strange looking, but I actually understand how pictures can play tricks like that, and it’s just awesome. Well done. (Again.)

ha, yeah i've been given a lot of crap about that second arm
its (in my mind) wrapping around elway’s body, but i think it’s one of those things where i learned my lesson by not letting anyone else look at it before i posted it. i’m sure that would have been caught.
i’ll probably fix it for the end of the series when i wrap it all up and do a nice presentation (maybe even a show in the crossroads district here in kc) but for now i have far too much work on top of these things as it is. i also finished it at 6am, so i have to think that contributed to me not thinking much of it, as well.
oh well :P
