I'm pessimistic by nature. Maybe that's not entirely true, I'm pessimistic because it's a defense mechanism. I'm so used to being disappointed by the Chiefs that I tell myself to expect the worst, and they usually don't fail me.
I'm not expecting a Super Bowl this year, I'm not even expecting a division title. However, I do think the latter of the two is possible, and I do expect the Chiefs to win 10 games and make the playoffs for the first time since 2006. If they get in as a division winner and host a home game, I expect them to win. They can do it, they're good enough.
To all the fans like me who are scared to embrace this team, just let go and do it. I see so many people on this site who want to let their guard down but can't because of the history. Screw it, history is exactly that. What happened in 2008 has no effect on 2010. This team has talent and direction, motivation and support for the first time in a long time. This team has hope.
I have NFL Sunday Ticket and I watch as many games as I can, and you know what, our Chiefs are a good team. They aren't the best, but they can beat almost any team in this league on their best day. They have come so far as a unit, and now as a fan, I'm trying to grow as well. We need to let the shackles of 2-14 and 4-12 drop off of our tired arms, and use those same arms to embrace what we're seeing.
I believe the Chiefs will lose to the Colts and possibly to the Texans, but that doesn't change what I'm saying. Do you realize we're having a spirited and legitimate debate on this site about whether we can actually win in Indianapolis? Can you imagine that the past few seasons? No. Why? Growth...
So folks, let's enjoy the ride. This team is 3-0, and while it has flaws, it has so many beautiful strengths. Let's enjoy them, let's root like hell, and most of all...
Let go, and just embrace it.
