just read that too…it takes time either way…the jets struggled for a few years before their D took off.

That's probably not a good idea mid-season

I don’t know, I didn’t like when the Chiefs made the switch, but anytime there’s a scheme change there’ll be growing pains.

The Chiefs had more pieces put when they made the switch.

The Bills had a bunch of smaller fast defensive lineman… And you absolutely can not have those for the 3-4. I don’t get why they are benching Maybin, if they are switching to the 4-3, then he should bounce back quite nicely.

The Bills were way to undersized and thin at linebacker for this switch.

It does seem like the Bills made the switch

as it was the popular thing to have a 3-4 defense. There are plenty of 4-3 defenses that are just as dangerous as the 3-4. I feel a team should run the scheme they have the personnel for. A good coordinator works with what he has and doesn’t try to fit a square peg in a round hole.

Which is exactly what they did

when they switched in the first place. And what did they draft for? 4 of their 9 picks this past draft were spent on defense (2n, 3rd, and two 6th). If Gailey keeps the job, perhaps they try the switch again next season, but to me it shows a lack of forethought and longterm vision.

wow, don't know what happened there...

anyway, was saying that moving back to a 4-3 was a terrible idea. maybe it’s just a smoke screen. if not, it’s just stupid. players need time to develop within a system. this will only stunt their growth if they go with a 3-4 next year. plus, they ended up letting go of a lot of their 4-3 players this offseason and drafted for a 3-4 this past draft. man, what a stupid move.

They will probably try the switch again next off season...

but they really don’t have the personnel to run a 3-4, way to undersized.

At least the Chiefs (with a converted Dorsey) had a D’line averaging around 300 lbs each. The Bills are just way to small along the D-Line. I would imagine the switch back to the 4-3 is temporary. They have the worst pass and run D, they have to do something.

yeah, they r in a tough spot...

maybe they should go to some sort of hybrid so that some of the guys can still get a little bit of experience in the 3-4.

I really liked this part of the article
This is what we were talking about when we said a few weeks the Bills lacked a coherent organizational vision

I’m glad we have a vision and are currently on the way to seeing what that vision is.

Do we all remember what the result was last time we played a 4-3?

See Week 3.

I know that you're afraid... you're afraid of us. You're afraid of change. I don't know the future. I didn't come here to tell you how this is going to end. I came here to tell you how it's going to begin.

San Fran?

They run a 3-4. The last 3 teams we played ran a 4-3 though

Yep

First three teams we played all ran 3-4 defenses. The last three teams we played all ran 4-3 defenses. You can make a case that Cassel has more success against a 4-3 defense, but I think he had more success due to weak secondaries.
