In-Depth Division Sack Stats

I wanted to look at sacks and compare to our division.  I love the million kool-aid , Comparing us to NE, and prediction posts.  I wanted to look at something a little different though.  So do you know where we rank in the AFC West in sacks?  1st?  Sadly, not even close.  4th?  Not quite. Actually, we are ranked 3rd in our division with 10 sacks. Broncos are last with 7.  The Raiders are surprisingly 2nd with 12. The Chargers are in a demanding lead with 21! I think with all the pressure it should get them more wins.  I'll start by looking at the Chiefs!

So after looking at this table I see that Tamba Hali is leading which we already knew.  When Edwards gets to the QB he makes them lose a lot of yards from the sacks.  I would love to see more sacks but also see more from our LB's that are suppose to get them in the first place.  I wonder why we haven't had more sacks?  Have we faced teams that don't allow that many?  Let's take a look!

The Chargers have allowed 18 sacks and we made 1 for 5.5% of their total sacks allowed.

The Browns have allowed 7 sacks and we made 1 for 14% of their total sacks allowed.

The 49ers have allowed 12 sacks and we made 5 for a crazy 42% of their total sacks allowed.

The Colts have allowed 6 sacks and we made 1 for 17% of their total sacks allowed.

The Texans have allowed 16 sacks and we made 2 for 12.5% of their total sacks allowed.

I guess we will keep truckin' to see how the Broncos are doing...

Ok, first you notice a safety on the list which I think is good.  You then notice that not a lot of sacks are coming from the line.  This is one of the reasons why they aren't winning more games.  They need to put more pressure but in all fairness there are a lot of injuries on their defense.  Let's look at the teams that they are facing.

The Jaguars have allowed 14 sacks and the Broncos made 1 for 7% of their total sacks allowed.

The Seahawks have allowed 9 sacks and the Broncos made 1 for 11% of their total sacks allowed.

The Colts have allowed 6  sacks and the Broncos made 0 for 0% of their total sacks allowed.

The Titans have allowed 12 sacks and the Broncos made 2 for 17% of their total sacks allowed.

The Ravens have allowed 8 sacks and the Broncos made 1 for 12.5% of their total sacks allowed.

The Jets have allowed 9 sacks and the Broncos made 2 for 22% of their total sacks allowed.

I guess if we have to...the Raiders...

Right off the bat I notice a good mix of players getting sacks.  There is only one LB though which is surprising.  The Raiders are doing ok in sacks but it is taking away from coverage it seems.  At home I'm pretty afraid of their defense (at least their front seven).  I wonder who the Raiders have faced.

The Titans have allowed 12 sacks and the Raiders made 2 for 17% of their total sacks allowed.

The Rams have allowed 14 sacks and the Raiders made 3 for 21.5% of their total sacks allowed.

The Cardinals have allowed 19 sacks and the Raiders made 2 for 10.5% of their total sacks allowed.

The Texans have allowed 16 sacks and the Raiders made 0 for 0% of their total sacks allowed.

The Chargers have allowed 18 sacks and the Raiders made 3 for 17% of their total sacks allowed.

The 49ers have allowed 12 sacks and the Raiders made 2 for 17% of their total sacks allowed.

Now on to the slow starting Chargers...

Holy batman!  Is their entire defense going to get a sack before the end of the year?  I see a good mix of LB's, linemen, and safety play. I'm surprised the Chargers really aren't winning more games.  This goes to show you that you can be good on offense/defense but without special teams you can get burnt. Are the teams the Chargers facing any good at not allowing sacks?

The Chiefs have allowed 4 sacks and the Chargers made 1 for 25% of their total sacks allowed.

The Jaguars have allowed 14 sacks and the Chargers made 2 for 14% of their total sacks allowed.

The Seahawks have allowed 9 sacks and the Chargers made 3 for 33% of their total sacks allowed.

The Cardinals have allowed 19 sacks and the Chargers made 9 for a beyond crazy 47% of their total sacks allowed.

The Raiders have allowed 18 sacks and the Chargers made 3 for 17% of their total sacks allowed.

The Rams have allowed 14 sacks and the Chargers made 3 for 21.5% of their total sacks allowed.

So what am I getting out of all this?  I'm not sure but I can look at a few things.  The teams that the Chiefs faced have allowed 59 sacks this year.  The Chiefs have got 10 for 17% of sacks allowed.  The teams the Broncos faced have allowed 58 sacks this year.  The Broncos got 7 for 12% of sacks allowed.  The teams the Raiders faced have allowed 91 sacks this year.  The Raiders got 12 for 13% of sacks allowed. The teams the Chargers faced have allowed 78 sacks this year. The Chargers got 21 for 27% of sacks allowed.  There are some factors such as we have only played 5 games and the rest of our division has played 6.  Some of the teams the division has played have had a bye week so certain teams might have had more games to allow more sacks.

Notes

In our division there are no cornerback sacks.

Shaun Phillips leads our division with 6 sacks.

Tamba Hali is 3rd in our division in sacks.

77 sacks have been allowed by the Titans, Cardinals, Raiders, Rams, and Jaguars.  All teams we still have to play.

Go Chiefs!
