Chiefs DE Shaun Smith Says He Successfully Appealed His $10,000 Fine
In Week 2 and Week 3 Kansas City Chiefs DE Shaun Smith was accused by Cleveland Browns C Alex Mack and San Francisco 49ers RT Anthony Davis of grabbing them below the belt. There were no penalty flags on either play though video exists of the alleged Week 3 incident and, while it does suggest that there is some grabbing going on, there isn't a clear angle of it.
A league official told me on Oct. 1 that he was fined $10,000 for grabbing an opponent in the groin area. Smith told reporters that he would appeal the fine.
And via Twitter Smith writes today:
It's going to be a good day because I won my appeal so am 10000 richer again
The league doesn't comment on appeals so we'll have to take his word for it.

Good call. That video evidence was pretty flimsy.
I eat nails for breakfast, tacks for snacks, and I sh*t nickel.
Does his nut grabbing count
as a “devastating hit”?

So since he has his 10,000 dollars back,
does this mean he can go back to grabbing sacs again?
I want a championship team in KC.

Are you surprised?
I asked this question in the FanShot I posted over an hour ago. I am very surprised at the ruling.
The 2010 Kansas City Chiefs draft class will go down in history as one of the single greatest draft classes in the history of the league.
I'm not surprised.
I said at the time that he’d either win or his fine would be reduced, and some scoffed at me that the NFL doesn’t need proof to fine someone. In fact, they do. That’s why there exists a grievance procedure and arbitration. You can’t just penalize someone based on what you think happened.
Shaun:
It’s probably a good policy to avoid talking about money (much less getting “richer”) during this particularly hard recession for many of your fans. Your fine represents a third to a fourth of what most Americans make in a year.
This would be a perfect opportunity to donate it to a local charity for the underpriveliged. It’ll cement your status as a warrior doing what it takes in the trenches while being a hero to the local community.

I get what you're saying...
But Smith isn’t one of the uber elite athletes that gets paid big money. He’s probably making around 200 – 300 K this year. That’s enough that if I was in his situation I would probably be fighting over 10 K too. He’s not going to play football forever.

Wow. Who's nuts did he grab to win the appeal?
Chiefs will. But...will Cassel?
10 + wins in 2010. Chiefs SHOCK the NFL!!! Mark it down.
He's going to be squezze happy sunday now that he knows he can get away with it.
Wear your cups this week Jag-offs.
The NFL still came out on top...
James Harrison made it so the NFL was like “Shaun who?”, while they were counting their money “pffft. Yeah, he can keep his chump change.”

Winning begins with Attitude - Haley and Pioli will be winners in KC!
I'll forever be a Chiefs fan! Only God himself could take that away from me, but when I get to my great reward, I'll rejoin two bigger fans, my Mom and Dad.
