PrintThe Kansas City Chiefs made it official with the NFL trade deadline deal.
Here's the simple release on the trade:
The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Tuesday that the club has traded DE Alex Magee to Tampa Bay in exchange for an undisclosed selection in the 2011 NFL Draft.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Chiefs sent Magee and a 2011 draft pick to Tampa Bay for one of the Bucs 2011 draft picks. The Chiefs probably don't get too detailed in their releases.
We may not find out the exact compensation for some time. Last year the Chiefs traded a draft pick to the Miami Dolphins for a pair of offensive linemen and the compensation wasn't confirmed for months.
As Josh Looney of KCChiefs.com points out, it's the ninth trade by Scott Pioli as Chiefs GM.

a bit surprising, with TJax hurting of late … and the guy is only in his 2nd year (and how many times have we heard the old “it takes time to develop” refrain?
so we give up a 3rd rounder for … who knows!!! one would hope that as we’re exchanging draft picks (ie, giving one to TamBay) that we’d at least get a 2nd round in return … we shall see in due time (like about April, maybe)

IMO, no way on earth they get close to a 2nd round pick. He was practice fodder, likely to be cut after this season. If they move up one round (any round), I’ll be happy. If they move up two rounds, I’ll be thrilled.

Everyone makes mistakes.
Especially those people hired late, and are stuck with Carl Peterson’s scouts.
Actually, a lot of teams made mistakes in the 2009 draft. Credit Pioli for getting something for one of his, rather than just letting him go.

Agree 100%. Lays to rest the assumption Pioli has too much ego to cut ties with a high(er) pick quickly if they’re not working out.
Personally I can’t fault a guy who misses on a pick decided with info gleaned from scouts he didn’t hire.

Pioli froze out ‘those scouts’ and it was ‘those scouts’ that thought Colin Brown wasn’t rated high enough to be drafted at all.

They drafted McCoy and Price as DTs. Isn’t DT where Magee would play in a 4-3

i believe he played some DE.
if I remember right, he was touted as having some pass rush skills coming out of the draft.

Weren’t there a lot of people clamoring for us to release Magee? I think for us to get some value for someone that obviously wasn’t doing anything in our system is fantastic. I was impressed personally that this trade was made.

We missed Mike Vic, we grabbed Berry (that’s good), you say the d is still in need of assistance. Well in the traditional sense of how KC trades have come and gone. Merriman is out there and I think he would appreciate the love our great Chiefs are known for.
C’mon give him a chance; I’m sure he has a few years left………………….CHIEFS!!!
And where would he play?
Merriman’s been terrible ever since he stopped taking steroids, and we already have a stud ROLB who’s better than him to begin with.
