Sunday Night Football: Peyton Manning, Colts Take On Donovan McNabb, Redskins

Photo

It's been a long day after the Kansas City Chiefs lost to the Houston Texans.

Cap off the evening with some Sunday Night Football. It's Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts against Donovan McNabb and the Washington Redskins.

The Chiefs played the Manning pretty well last week so it'll be interesting to see how he does against the Redskins.

Still upset

but cooling down a bit. Our schedule is too easy and we can win all of them pretty easily if we don’t make mistakes or have crappy refs.

It can be done. The Chiefs lost to a couple of pretty darn good teams. I think they’ll rebound just fine. Who’s going to bitch about 14-2?

With this game it came down to 2 plays and 1 drive. Both games should have been won, or at least could have been won.

I get the feeling

That Wies and company are still feeling out what they can really do with these guys. Its not like Cassel or Bowe have been consistent. Moeaki has been a rock, running game is doing well, but we are still a bit un-predictable on O.
I agree, the Colts game could have been done better. I do think, knowing how it played out, it will be next time. This game, however, we had. Our offense did its thing. Special teams was a bit lacking (mostly coaching calls) and defense decided to go home early….Oh and the refs got us as well. We are still too young and in-experienced to beat all the factors all the time. We have been doing great against those odds, but it does catch up sooner or later.
My big thought lately is who are we going to add to this Offense (not referring to QB here) to get more. I saw what they did with this draft and I am dreaming of a Oregon State running back or beast of a speed receiver…We have lots of options at this point because of good play from our current draftees. Future looks bright…

by Be_The_Ball on Oct 17, 2010 9:02 PM CDT up reply actions

The refs weren't as bad as it seemed.

Could have been holding calls on Mario, the PI call on Flowers was bad, but Andre Johnson caught the ball anyway, but I don’t think it was PI on Johnson, for it to be PI on the WR usually they have to fully extend the arms and he didn’t do that. Really the only real beef I have is the bullshit false start.

There really is no excuse for us to be throwing on whatever and 2’s… I have no problem going for it on 4th and 2, but why not run it instead of throwing it.

AFCN – Baltimore – 1 seed
AFCE – Jets – 2 seed
AFCS – Colts – 3 seed
AFCW – Chiefs – 4 seed
Wildcard – Steelers – 5 seed
Wildcard – Patriots – 6 seed

I’d love for 2 things to happen:
a) Obviously win the AFCW obviously
b) Get that 3rd seed. The first wildcard team out of the AFCN is gonna be hard to beat…even at home.

by averagegatsby on Oct 17, 2010 9:31 PM CDT up reply actions

Or the most overrated.

There’s a simple formula to beating the Colts:

Play them at home, but you better have a loud exciting crowd the entire time he’s on the field. When he can’t hear himself he acts like Philip Rivers; bitchy.

Get after him, hit him, sack him, make him think he hears footsteps every play. He doesn’t play well under duress, mix in crowd noise and you’ve got yourself a high probability of a win.

Dungy's Book

If you read Dungy’s book he makes the statement that the Colts are running the old offense from the Minnesota Teams of the 70s and 80s and Bills of the 90s. You would think someone would have figured it out by now and found a way to stop it. Kinda like the WCO from Walsh. To me it seems like sometimes there are systems that it takes the whole to adjust to in order to be able to stop. Joe definitely got luck running the system that no one could stop in his decade. man that was fun to watch in those days. Especially when they beat up on the Cowboys and Danny White…

I saw an interview with a Defensive player from that era...

He said that Bill Walsh only ran about 12 plays, and they knew exactly what the play was each time they lined up, but they still couldn’t stop it.

Jerry Rice was the perfect receiver for that offense, since it was built on precision, and Jerry Rice’s greatness was his absolutely flawless route running.

I love Auction leagues...

But I’ve had terrible luck.

I should have traded Jahvid after week 2. I traded LT and Eli Manning, for Philip Rivers and Mike Wallace. He desperately needed a RB, and I knew Mike Wallace was going to be awesome once Big Ben got back.

I seriously make myself sick trying to pick which guys to start each week, Its torture. I wish I could just package players for the monster of monster teams and not worry about who to start and who to sit.

Wow is the NFC shrapnel.

Who is the best team in the NFC?
There isn’t really a great NFC team…I would have said the Falcons before today.
Maybe the Eagles?

though I don’t know if Caughlin was ever rated.

Caughlin was about to get fired... Then they won the Super Bowl.

I really like Spagnuolo

I trust the people more who have said it was great.

Amazing...

My face hurt when I left…

Well I guess Amazing isn’t fair, but it was exactly what I expected and I don’t regret having seen it. Really funny

Super Bowl Teams

Ok, I have had this theory for a little while now. Tell me what you think.
You mention Spagnuolo and it makes me think of it again.
The teams that do well in this league come up with something that is innovative and hard to stop. (Duh I know) But it is never intended to last for the long term. Giants with the 14 LBs playing at once. Colts with the precision passing system the Bills could not produce with, the Ravens with a new look on the Tampa Defense, which was itself an innovation. It seems like things have to be relatively new or fresh in order to get past some of the good teams in this league and get over the hum. Shanahan and his O back in the day.
I wonder what the Chiefs innovation will be.
The demise of those teams is never being able to reproduce the effect their innovation had at one point in time. IE the Ravens for the past few years. We all know their defense is great, but we’ve seen it before…Giants now, for example can’t get enough LBs on the field to produce the defense Spag coaches to the SB. They will probably draft them as long as Caughlin is their coach. Etc Etc.

I dunno...

I think the goal for this team is to not beat themselves… Play disciplined, ‘safe’ football. Don’t turn the ball over, dont get penalties, ground and pound, with a bend but don’t break D with some special teams flair.

Can we be the AFC West Champions in 2010. You better believe it

Agreed

But I think to get over the hump in the playoffs, we need a key innovation. Something people have not seen in awhile or at all and can’t react to fast enough until after we will it all. I just wonder what that might be…Super fast RB/WR from Ole Miss maybe?

I think that could be the super disciplined football...

When was the last time you saw a team play with so few turnovers with so few penalties?

Arm on the back didn't get called...

Usually Colts get those calls

Its unbelievable the Colts didn't run it at least once

If any other team did that in the league, they would have been crushed for the play calling
