Wow. I have been reading through the posts and it is just amazing some of the things that I am reading. It is staggering how many of the fans who planned on us losing seem so disappointed. And the complaining and whining is comical.
Let me tell you what I got out of the game.I am very pleased with what I saw. We had a chance to beat Peyton Manning at home with a chip on his shoulder. I believe that this is the lowest passing yardage total for Peyton this year. Our D was STELLAR. I have heard some people saying that the D just played ok. Were we watching the same game?
That was Peyton Manning. Love him or hate him he is one of the best to EVER play that position. No one thought that we would be able to contain Peyton. Other than the last drive where the D was clearly tired, they played great.
Now to the offense. Yeah. I really hoped that we would have done a lot better offensively, but the Colts had a great plan.....Stack the box and force us to pass. Speaking of passing......
Let's get to Cassel. I laughed when I saw how many were calling for his head. I agree that Cassel has to play better plain and simple. With that said, he was not as bad as many made him out to be. He threw a lot of bad passes, but we knew that was likely coming in. But, he did not have any turnovers, and he made what should have been a nice TD pass. And I don't know if it's true or not because I didn't see it myself, but I heard that Cassel had a higher QB rating than Peyton.
And for those calling for Brodie, I understand. I don't agree, but I understand. I know the arguments. "Brodie didn't have a running game." "Brodie didn't have a line." I understand. Honestly, if Cassel starts to get worse, we might see Brodie, but don't plan on it for at least 2 big reasons.
#1 Cassel has not been turning the ball over as of late.
#2 We are paying Cassel too much money. When someone is making that much, you take the time to make sure that you know what you have.
Until Cassel is not our starter, he has my full support just because Im a fan. Plain and simple. I read a post that said that it was good that Cassel didn't win so that he would get pulled in the future. What a fan you are. That is absurd.
Had Bowe not dropped that pass in the end zone, Cassel's stats would have looked a little better. In fact there were a lot of ifs. The Colts beat us plain and simple. We did have a chance to win though. Most people didn't even give us a chance. Haley has been saying that he is trying to make us a good team and now we see why he says that. Really good teams don't have many ifs. Many want to act as though the droped TD lost us the game. Let's take a look at some of the other things I noticed that could have helped us.
Let's just get the bad pass interference call out of the way now.
If Bowe would have caught that pass things could have been different.
If we could have recovered the onside kick, things could have been different.
If Brandon Flowers (Who in my opinion is the best corner in the league so far this year) would have intercepted the pass he swatted down, then things could have been different.
If DJ would have caught that pick six, things could have been different.
If Jamaal Charles would not have fumbled things could have been different.
If we would have recovered the ball when Tamba made manning fumble, you got it, things could have been different.
My point is even though the TD was the most obvious, there were several lost opportunities in that game.
We won 4 games last year. Last year, the Colts probably would have beat us by 30. We will not be playing Peyton Manning every week. If we could hold him down like that, we should be able to man handle the other QB's we have left.
The Colts are likely the best team we will play his year, and we gave them all they could handle. I am even more stoked about this year.
Lastly, I want to commend most of the Colts posters that I saw here this week. You guys are a classy group.
Hey guys, the offense is coming. Just be patient, and enjoy what's happening because there is a lot to be happy about.
