Cassel. WR. 2011 Draft. Hint: those are what the 3 question marks represent, crazy huh? You might be seeing more of them later too. On the positive side, I LOVE how our D is playing. Romeo is the "biggest' (pun intended), addition to our team this year. He's flipped the script and turned our defense upside down. From suck to what the f*ck, he has our D playing on a level we haven't seen in years...and it is awesome! The level of play, and the knowledge that our D is stacked with talent that is so young is incredible. I'm very excited to see what they can be and where they can take us in the years to come.

On the not so bright note, our offensive woes are coming in multitudes. The only thing worse than watching the second half, was listening to Dan Derdork' commentary. Our offense looked poised and on the move during that first drive, with healthy doses of Charles ripping through the Colt's D. And then there was Cassel. Given the chance to show what he could do, Cassel made some exceptional decisions, followed up by some exceptionally bad passes. Example: After the aforementioned sustained first drive, on fourth and two in the redzone, he chose to fire a pass into what appears to be quadruple coverage in the endzone...all the while his FB, who was hard to miss, sitting wide open right in front of him, was exactly that, wide open right in front of him. Cassel has been a ? throughout preseason and that continues to carry into the season.

Cassel is not helping himself so far, and Weis' influences are not showing, at least from what I've been seeing. His play hasn't been the only factor however. Although inconsistent, Cassel has made the occasional "good throw" resulting in the occasional "good play." Today was a heavy mix of occasional "not so good throws," heavy on the "not so good," with spots of "I can't believe he actually threw the ball that well," sprinkled in. Which leads us to our next ?

WR. Dwayne Bowe has not only under achieved and under performed his butt off for us, he's made himself the brunt of Todd Haley's rage. If he were in the armed forces, this is the part were he gets a permanent transfer to a guard post in the Antarctica. His "for sure" touchdown catch, the one that wasn't "for sure," the one that even Bobby Sippio would've caught, that "for sure" touchdown? Yeah, that's enshrined him in my burning retinas forever. And then he follows up a sure catch, another decent Cassel pass, with another drop the very next play. Cassel isn't good, but I think Bowe might be worse. Chambers is old, Bowe is garbage. Our rookies and running backs are our only saving grace.

This is where my final ? comes into play. The 2011 Draft. I thought for sure our needs were NT, RT, OLB, C, and WR. Now...a QB, whether it comes from the draft, a trade, or FA, its obvious we need someone else to cmpete for the starting job. Behind Cassel, this team will not win the superbowl, let alone a playoff game. And that's if they can even get to the playoffs with him running the show. Now, with no-show-Bowe, and rip-van winkle Chambers as our # 1 and 2, its also obvious we need some real help in the receiving department. Haley's "position" specialty isn't looking so special now.

Whether our needs are addressed in through the draft, or FA, we need to address them this offseason (if not before). I feel we have a very good, very talented, up and coming team capable of becoming a very great team. But we're a couple pieces shy of that getting there. Unfortunately, those pieces happen to be two very big pieces of the pie. I hope we get these things addressed, and I hope we can continue to improve as the season progresses. We have too much talent not too.
