Swagger

Growing up in Southern Iowa, many NFL teams have fans scattered about and in recent years, we Chiefs fans in the area have been the butt of jokes. Now, like a good fan, I took it all in stride, still wore my gear, politely reminding
these fans that the time will come when it will be my turn...

That time is now and it is really fun!

I am sure there are some of you out there that will say it is a long season and whatnot, but so what? Honestly, what were the expectations for a 4-12 team? A 3-0 start all but guarantees a better season and this team has proved that it can at least play with anyone and have a shot to win.

I am pretty active on the 'ol Facebook and I always have Chiefs related status updates, "Go Chiefs", "Go F*** yourself, San Diego", "3-0!!!!". You get the idea. Many of my friends will comment and we will go back and forth, all in good fun, but some of them (Cowboy fans) are starting to get snarky. I figured out why - swagger.

That is right fellow Chiefs fans, we are developing a swagger. Our beloved team is punching teams right square in the mouth and the rest of the NFL fans are starting to look at their schedules and second-guessing that "W" they put by the KC game. Take for instance our week 5 matchup versus the Colts. This summer, one of my closest friends (who is a colts fan), was going on and on about how "the colts are going to kick the s*** out of KC", blah, blah, blah. We put money on the game, he even gave me 2-1 odds. After last weeks drubbing of San Fran, I spoke with him on the phone and I could notice just a little change in his tone. He was looking at that "W" he marked on his schedule and beginning to wonder, "what if this is an "L"?"...He doesn't even care about the money, he knows what will happen if KC wins. I will gloat. I will gloat every time I see him and he knows it. For all the crap he gave me over the last few seasons, he knows he has it coming. Fans all over are starting to see the tide turn and they are shaking in their boots.

Sure, we will lose some games, but we will win some games we are not supposed to. As a matter of fact, all three of our wins were considered upsets according to the pundits. Being underdogs suits this team, it fuels them, drives them to practice harder, to show everyone how good they know they are. That is swagger.

So fellow Chiefs fans, indulge in the swagger, wear red on fridays at work and on gameday. Remember all the times you were razzed about poor records and high draft picks. How you would just smile, knowing that this team was turning around and it was just a matter of time.

The time is now Chiefs Nation. We are going to run the football down the throats of the NFL and smack offenses in the mouth. It feels good and I am not afraid to tell everyone about it.

Go Chiefs!
