Vrabel Says He and Chiefs Have a Desire to Get a Deal Done
Early in the month of December, LB Mike Vrabel said he would be interested in the idea of returning to the Kansas City Chiefs to "see this thing through."
I thought the words sounded nice but ultimately figured Vrabel would hit the free agent market and sign on with a winner since his career is in the twilight stages. He's only been part of the Pittsburgh Steelers and New England Patriots, both big winners, so staying in Kansas City wouldn't make much sense.
Maybe that's the case, but Vrabel still seems willing to return to the Chiefs according to Adam Teicher of the Kansas City Star.
"Hopefully," Vrabel told Teicher of returning in 2010. "There’s a desire by both parties to get something done. I’d love to come back here and be a part of getting this thing turned around. Walking out of here after my 13th year, I feel pretty good. I feel I’ve still got some football left."
"I love the players. I love the linebackers. I love playing for (linebackers coach) Gary Gibbs. I thought he did a great job with the linebackers."
Vrabel has less than three months to free agency so we'll see if a deal gets done. For now, though, Vrabel has retreated to his home in Ohio.

Another thought...
Maybe he knows more about the Romeo situation than we do? I just dont see why he would want to return next season when he could go to a contender. (who knows we may be one). Vrabel played for Crennel and they may have spoke and Romeo wants him to stay put and Vrabel is willing to do that to play under him again? I dont know Im probably been thinking too much Im a little wired this morning.
From what I hear
his family loves Kansas City…especially his kids.
This is my signature line. It is full of awesome and win.

I'm not convinced that he's going to provide stellar play or anything, but...
I think his contributions could make a new deal worth doing. He doesn’t warrant a mid-career contract, but a moderate deal that still gives him the respect he deserves would be ideal.
sign him
keep this guy for another 2-3 years if he can make it. Not too worried about his big play ability but more as a role model and teaching the younger guys some things.
also Get Karlos Dansby from the cards. get a good LB coach and i think we’d have a pretty damn competitive LB core. especially if DJ can continue playing like he played Sunday. I actually thought for DJ’s role that he played, he played pretty damn good. one of his better seasons given his roll was limited. and Tamba can only get better. 9 sacks as a first year OLB coming from DE i’d say thats impressive.
We need to draft Eric Berry, no if's / and's or buts about it!!!!
Keep Vrabel a Chief
He may not be as good as he once was…but he’s still a good, solid LB. He’s a Pro, and a proven winner. If he’s willing to stay, then give the man a deal.
“Gary Gibbs. I thought he did a great job with the linebackers.”
That’s a pretty good endorsement for Gibbs, I’d say.
I agree that we should keep him around
But moreso for his mentoring abilities than his play. Studebaker was VERY impressive in his limited time when Vrabel was injured. I want to see that kid on the field more…
Sign Him!
I like his heart and his teaching ability and we have the cap room. Give him some $ and let’s get this thing done!
sign him
With an eye to the future I’m thinking of a player/coach deal that would allow him to move to a coaching gig after he retires. He’s clearly shown that he can coach the linebackers and they have taken everything he has given them. I don’t know what plans he may have after football but many of them have a hard time walking away from it and stay too long. Not many of those players have any coaching skills where Vrabel seems to be a coach already.
is it me? or isn't about time the Lamar Hunt trophy belonged to His team?
This Chiefs team is closer to a new expansion team than it is a playoff contender, your expectations should match that.
Ohio State
I believe I remember hearing that Vrabel would like to coach at Ohio State.

I believe that was an aspiration for after his playing career, if he was offered a job with KC, no way he turns that down.
look at anthony pleasent, seems to have done well for us!
Haley is the right coach who just needs good people around him, much like Cassel
Vince Wilfork will be Scott Pioli's top offseason priority and will be a Chief.

he also proves if signed, that you can come to KC from NE, and actually want to stay...thats new.

sign him
maybe he’s on the other side of the spectrum than Tony G was last year. maybe with spending all of his career on winning teams he wants to do something fulfilling and really help turn the team around… maybe? lol
Young, dope & flashy.
I don't know
I wish we would have gotten to see more of Studebaker. If right now he can play at least as well as Vrabel then I would rather have him starting and getting experience.I just don’t want Vrabel to hold him back.
Please help send my girlfriend to Broadway! Visit http://magonbroadway.blogspot.com/
Signing him wouldn't mean that it would hold back Studebaker.
We could put Mike as the second and push Andy to the first position. Mike would then be able to not only play but spend more time mentoring these guys.
Yeah, let's just keep matriculatin' the ball down the field, boys! ...

Too slow in coverage. That position requires some speed.
He’s great against the run but, TEs would kill him through the course of a game. Of course, you could have a Vrabel/DJ rotation there and let DJ come in on passing downs due to his great coverage skills.

what a suprise
i’d say this speaks volumes about todd haley and the potential of this team.
yeah, yeah, another 4-12 season. but vrabel is the one guy i figured would have been long gone by now and not looking back.
vrabel’s got his championships. i’d say maybe turning this team from a nothing into a contender has more appeal than going to a place for a few final hurrah runs at playoffs. or crennel has something to do with it or something, i dunno.
i do know that i couldn’t be going into this offseason more pleased/excited.. which is suprising considering a few of the final games (last one excluded). it seems like it’s been a while since a complete team deconstruction was necessary.
yet another
friend of Big Vince Wilfork…this may help…Vrabel gives KC a little bit of…value in terms of people all of a sudden signing with KC….most would think vrabel would want out, would be talking to pittsburgh etc…but no, he wants to be a chief…finally…people who want to be a Chief

You type very slowly.
Why such long pauses?

I'm thinking a 2 year contract with the bulk of the pay coming in 2010.
Let’s get another solid year of starting play out of him, and then make him a situational LB in the 2nd year while his apprentice (hopefully Studebaker) takes the starting spot. He could continue to mentor this D and help coach the young LBs. IMO, that’s the most important part of having him here.

2 years would work, any longer and I think Vrabel would probably retire.

plus in psych class I learned that if you do that to seperate thoughts, there is a higher chance of the person reading and taking in your points, than there is otherwise since skimming tends to take place

The guy had the stones
to flick off the entire denver sideline. Also, I think he’s rubbing off on Studie in a big way.

I dont care if he's slowing down or getting older he's the smartest guy on the field.
The things that this guy could do and teach to guys like Von Miller or an Eric Norwood or someone of that calibur of young player, if we end up drafting that or any other LB at any other LB position, is invaluable.

I have always liked vrabel and I agree he has at least two years of play left in him
