You Know What Grinds My Gears?
Well the past couple of weeks, there is a couple things that have been bothering me and I thought I’d go on a little rant. Luckily for me I was watching the "Grinding my Gears" episode of Family Guy was on the other night so I decided to
Without further adieu,
You know what grinds my gears?
1.You know what grinds my gears? Tim Tebow Haters.
This is #1 on my list for many reasons. It has become cliché in the media and on blogs and message boards to try and label this young man and to simply state that his style will never translate to the NFL. Why won’t it? Look, I’m not going to sit here on my soapbox and pretend that Tebow will like Tom Brady, Peyton Manning or Brett Favre who excel in prototypical "pro-style offenses" but what exactly is a pro-style offense? The NFL’s offense has evolved so drastically in the past 10 years. In fact, on Sunday we have Miami running 25% of their snaps directly to their running backs, in Tennessee they went on an unbelievable late season playoff run when they turned to their "college style" QB who excelled in the option play. Shit, when New England or Arizona is on their own one yard line, instead of bringing in the "jumbo package", they spread it out with 4 and 5 WR sets out of the shotgun. Conventional? No. Accepted? Yes.
The reason I bring this up is that offenses are evolving and we have a once a decade talent coming out and with all the pathetic offenses in the NFL right now, Why not take a shot? Again, Tebow will probably fail by attempting to stick a square peg in a round hole, but I guarantee there are literally 1,000’s of young hotshot college coordinators that would be willing to join your staff to assist creating an offense around Tebow’s skillset.
My "favourite" Tebow argument is that Tebow should try to make it as a H-back or TE. Lou Holtz once said if Tebow was a Linebacker, he’d be the first one taken in the 2009 draft. Tebow himself was asked if he would be ok with the move to another position. "I’ve heard it since high school," he said. "People didn’t think that I could throw at Florida. We did O.K. at that. Going to the next level, we’re going to try and prove people wrong. It’s going to be fun. I just want an opportunity to be a quarterback at the next level and to get that chance."
It came to a boiling point for me watching the Sugar bowl. (Tebow BTW went 31-35 for 486 yards, 51 rushing yards and 4 total TD’s) where Brian Billick tried his best to tear him down despite him playing essentially a perfect game. Really Brian Billick? Really? You are the "offensive genius" behind all those 30th ranked offenses? Billick drafted himself a young strong armed conventional QB in Kyle Boller. How did that go, you jackass? Perhaps there is a reason why you are the colour commentating bowl games instead of coaching in the NFL you hack.
Tebow has won in every level and plays with an unprecedented passion for the game. Why people need to poo-poo his talent or label him is beyond me. He is the antithesis of Jay Cutler or Jeff George or any other strong armed QB who was a failure in this league. He is a proven winner and a hell of a young man. I’d be proud for him to be a Kansas City Chief. And if you are still reading and feel the need to comment bashing me or Tebow, have you actually watched a couple Florida games through the years? Or are you just regurgitating spoon fed media bullshit? I have a feeling people that don’t like Tebow have never watched him because I became a fan without any UF alliances by watching the passion to which he plays.
2. You know what grinds my gears? Mock Drafts
I realize we have entered unofficial "MOCKDRAFTEGEDDON" at AP so I’ll tread lightly. Mockdrafts are ridiculous. ESPECIALLY before the combine where everything changes. The fact that people were doing them in October is ridiculous especially since we didn’t know a) The final draft order or b) Who is declaring for the draft. My favourite is people who post 1,000,000,000 drafts and by the laws of probability correctly call an obscure 6th round pick and call themselves draft geniuses. You know who is a draft genius? Mike Freaking Mayock. Google "2010 Mike Mayock mock draft". Nothing there? Why is that? BECAUSE IT IS TOO EARLY. I know everyone is excited about the draft because the Chiefs have been so putrid lately and we are all arm-chair GM’s but come one, at least wait to the combine. Which brings me to….
3. You know what grinds my gears? The NFL combine.
Let me get this straight. Most draft eligible players are done playing in the first week of January and the combine is in the end of February. Yet EVERY year, there are ridiculous examples of guys with 1st round grades dropping to the 4th round and 3rd round guys entering the first round without playing a single snap. What has changed? Well Craig, they got in Gym shorts and did non football activities like benchpressing, running in a straight line and broad jumping. Why not base their draft position based on potato sack races or maybe that game where you spin around on a baseball bat then try to run a straight line. I guess this weeds out the good scouting departments from the bad ones as inevitably there are people who draft people solely on their 40 time. *cough*Al Davis*cough*.
4. You know who grinds my gears? Kate Hudson
I watched the movie "nine" over the weekend. (Avatar was sold out). Kate Hudson with all those little outfits, jumping around there on stage, half-naked with your little outfits. Ya know? You're a... You're out there jumping around and I'm just sitting here with my beer. So, what am I supposed to do? What you want? You know, are we gonna go out? Is that what you're trying to - why why are you leaping around there, throwing those things all up in my, over there in my face? What do you want, Kate? Tell me what you want? Well, I'll tell you what you want, you want nothing. You want nothing. All right? Because we all know that no woman anywhere wants to have sex with anyone, and to titillate us with any thoughts otherwise is - is just bogus.
5. You know what grinds my gears? The Rooney Rule
Again, I better tread lightly on this one as I am a white guy. Look, I think this was a very good rule back in the day but how long do we have to waste great young black coordinators time just to fulfill an archaic rule? If there is 10 coaching vacancies this offseason, how many phone calls is Leslie Frazier going to get? 10. Is this because he is who the teams want? Maybe, but what is this telling him when Dan Snyder wants to interview him when the entire nation knows the job is going to Shana-tan? I wanted Frazier in the offseason and he could coach my team any day of the week, but I think he’s being jerked around by a system that was created to help him. The NFL has made many strides in the past couple years in hiring minority coaches and these coaches have had success cumlimating with both Superbowl coaches being of African American descent a couple seasons ago. Lets move on...
6. You know what grinds my gears? Dwayne Bowe haters.
You’d think on a team devoid of talent, Chiefs fans would appreciate what they had. Nope. "BOWE SUCXXXSSZZZ!!!! TRADE HIM 4 A 3rd ROUNDAaaa!!!111": He was a 1st round draft pick and had an unbelievable 2 seasons and a 3rd that had some issues with the diuretic....WITH 5 STARTING QB’s. With his rookie contract, he is worth more than a 1st rounder and to trade him would be ridiculous. I’ve quoted this stat before but he’s had the best 2 first years of ANY WR IN THE NFL since Randy Moss. He is good and will only get better. Does he have drop issues? Yes. These issues can be coached and I'm sure they are. Instead of trading Bowe and starting from scratch, lets be patient with him, and continue to build around an offensive nucleus of Cassel, Bowe, and Jamaal.
Well, that felt good for getting all that off my chest.
Thanks for reading,
Craig.

For Kate Hudson
"The way this works is you string together some good games, some good practices and you get momentum and you gain confidence," linebacker Mike Vrabel said. "It can be a real positive for your team. It builds on itself."
Me too...
I was married to someone for a long time to someone who resembled that last statement in #4, then I found out that it just wasn’t me. I’m glad that I found that last part not true for all, Ha…
Rec'd for the Mock Draft portion.
I know it won’t change anything, but we’re so far away to be making these assumptions.
"I don't know if I want to go to New York. They'll have to pay me a lot more money because I like it here in Kansas City." -- Roger Maris
I guess the real ? is
How well do you know college Football and the PLAYERS involved. Some of us Diehard football fans such as myself only needed the first six weeks this year of college ball to narrow down our picks/ LOCKS to be good/ BUST probabilities/ Star ability and some of us could care less about the COMBINE and other events as we all know GMs and other personell will contact players before the combine and what do we get when they work 75% 80% of what they could really do and I ’ve mentioned Flowers before in this I still say if Flowers had tried to the best of his ability at the combine there is ABSOLUTLY no way he would of been a Chief in the draft Herm talked him into taking it EASY at the combine and it worked. That happens every year so I say your scouts and other personell department people should have a VERY good idea who they want WELL before the Combine or draft. Maybe even as early as before this season ever started.
That's all fine and well, but I'm not referring to ONLY the combine.
Teams haven’t begun to bring in new coaches/FA players, let alone figure out the CBA. THOSE are the big ones to me, and the ones that will change everyone’s “big boards”. 5 new FanPosts a day telling us about the prospects we should get and what draft-day trades we should do are pointless right now because we don’t know what we (or anybody else) will need.

Agree it should atleast be kept to ONE board.
pointless or not it is entertaining to some and interesting to others while it just annoys some. I am even a little annoyed by all the similar posts and the fact that one bigger blog wasn’t made instead of nocking other good posts off.

Not to mention the Mocking the Draft blog already on SBNation.
That’s one designed specifically for that intention, and you’ll get a lot of like minded people on that site.
"I don't know if I want to go to New York. They'll have to pay me a lot more money because I like it here in Kansas City." -- Roger Maris
everyone starts talking and next thing you know X player has now moved up
so far on the big board almost seems like that since McShay is now talking about Anthony Davis comming to KC when I just started talking about him last week.
agreed about Bowe
He’s at LEAST a very solid WR… with a chance to be spectacular.
disagree about Tebow… I just don’t see him as a great NFL player… but he seems like a good kid, so I wish him well

I disagree about some of the things you said, but still a good post nonetheless
+ infinity about the mock drafts
I loves me some mock drafts, though...
it’s very addictive…
maybe just don’t click on posts that are clearly labeled as such?

I like them too
But they often show up in comments on completely unrelated posts.
I just think it is a little premature to be making mock drafts. Every team’s needs will change once FA starts and everyone’s draft boards will be revised after the Combine, Senior Bowl, etc.
by Nick Britt on Jan 4, 2010 1:01 PM CST up reply actions 1 recs
It's deevolving into the comments of very good posts now.
Most of the time, I just look the other way…but it’s gotten downright silly recently. Someone will be talking about our team as it is right now, and there’s 20 comments below about trading up/down/around to get X player and Y player that will instantly make our team better and will be available at precisely Z spot.
It’s all incredible speculation based on the assumptions from various websites. Intelligent discussion about specific players is okay by me, but posts about exactly what we should do on draft day are going to become more and more frequent…and there are too many factors left undiscovered to assume those. A list of 5 names and “What do you guys think?” has been done over and over.
Someone wants to talk about draft and players? Focus on a guy, tell me why you like him, what he’s done in college, how he’ll fit in here, and why the front office should take notice. 808NaNz808’s post is a prime example of a good draft prospect post.
"I don't know if I want to go to New York. They'll have to pay me a lot more money because I like it here in Kansas City." -- Roger Maris
You're just saying that because...
... you just don't understand what a BEAST Rolando McClain would be on this defense. And with our 2a pick, we REALLY need...
Heh.
Some of the early mocks helped inform me about some of the talent in the NCAA pipeline. And there were some good discussions about team needs and so forth, back when Steve_Chiefs was getting stoked on the 2010 draft, back in October.
But, yeah, it’s definitely outta hand. Mock Draft posts that are revisions of the first 5 mock drafts by the same guy. Kind of a one-a-day vitamin thing.
Sorry, kcchiefstd, because I think you really care about your football, but you’re one of those guys.
Prediction for '09: Chiefs are looking like a .500 team, especially considering Denver's inattention to D-Line, Chokeland's disarray, and a San Diego team that looks like it's on the decline. With a weak schedule, Chiefs steal a few and win between 7 and 9 games, and if .500 or better, will contend for supremacy in a weak division.
I see your point but
If what about this:
Round 1 – Joe Haden
2a – Joe Jonas
2b – Joe Biden
3 – Joe Momma
4 – Joe Dirt
5a – Joe Pesci
5b – G.I. Joe
I think this would effectively counteract our over reliance on guys named Brandon.
This is my signature line. It is full of awesome and win.

They'd probably make the "All Joes Team"
"The way this works is you string together some good games, some good practices and you get momentum and you gain confidence," linebacker Mike Vrabel said. "It can be a real positive for your team. It builds on itself."
Joe Momma is WAY overrated. Bottom is slipping. Slip is showing. I will say this, though:
Big Bust.

Exactly I have been watching this team be bad for to long
We have a really good chance of improving our team this year and I want my opinion known. Also I am not flip flopping around about what I want that is why there is not much differance between my mocks. I feel it is the right way to go and think quite a few people agree with my opinions.
that was for mills
Well there is good news for you then because until I know wether there will be an agreement about RFAs and everything else I am going to hold off on FA ideas and that kind of thing for now but expect atleast one MOCK a week or just some input about players comming out that I feel are really good players and could help our team ther are about 30 players I have not even mentioned yet that could be on Piolis watch list. So if you don’t like my comments just don’t read them however I feel they are good knowledge inhancing comments that I add on here, so you have a right to your opinion.
However when I see a Mock that makes no sense to me I generaly REPOST my mock that I have ALOT of confidence in then simply add stats or comments by coaches to it.
I LOVE FOOTBALL and I even watch ALOT of HIGHSCHOOL FOOTBALL and have a pretty good idea of who the impact Freshman in college will be next year so I could probably make a draft board for two years from now that is fairly accurate.
But I will add we as a whole should limit the amount of MOCK DRAfT
POSTS to one every three days or so or until one has about 500 comments before posting another one. One reason I have not done a Post this week is due to the # of them already going and feel that we are getting big enough that we ALL need to watch what Posts we are putting up and make sure it is not nocking a similar post off or adding multiple posts on the same subject. Long comments are welcome on posts and we do not need to start new posts just for dissagrements or other ideas on the same topic. If we keep it to one page it is better for everyone.

I think what we're hoping for is players that you think are good, especially the ones who are likely
to have more value than their draft position.
Not sayin’ we’ll all agree with your opinions on player x or player y, but I think AP will be a good place to discuss various positions in detail in a couple months. You might start working on those sorts of pieces, but not necessarily share every draft with everyone. Maybe slowly work something up, polish it over time, and share, when the time is ripe.

meh
I don’t like that, but it doesnt’ bother me much either…
some of the league’s best WR were on that list
* "I doubt anyone will miss Connor Barth except UCrawford"
* the LB corps may become the biggest strength of the Chiefs in 2009
* The OL is NOT as bad as you think it is... give it time, and you'll see improvement this season
* Stats are for losers
difference is
those “top” WR actually accomplish something, Bowe took a step back this year IMO
and I like Bowe
I don't think he took a step back... just had a 4 game hiatus
the passing offense was CLEARLY better when he played…
his numbers weren’t as good, but he missed 4 weeks, and was “benched” early on…
we’ll see in 2010

Yes. To me, he looks like he's getting off the line and more dominant against the jam than he was
at the beginning of the season. And I think we saw last Sunday what the offense can do when defenses roll coverage his way and the other guys make catches. Long term prognosis for the passing game in general, and Bowe, in particular, is looking rather good.

missed 4 games and was "benched" early on
yet still leads the league in drops. you can say what you want about the others on the drop list, but the good WR’s have the production and more games played. Bowe is a great potential WR, but he is showing that he also has the potential to b Braylon Edwards like

but still plenty of “trade -ers”
I’m so sick of everyone wanting to trade him for draft picks because he’s not an “ideal fit”

You're right
“trade-ers” is the more appropriate term. I’m sick to death of it. FWIW, I’m tired of hearing about any of our talented players as trade-bait. It’s time to BUILD on what we have and stop dismantling everything for the sake of draft-picks. Enough of the RE-BUILD mentality and let’s add to what precious little we already have.

Until the d-line is playing at a significantly higher level, all individual evals, pro and con, are in some doubt.
I’m not prepared to give Dorsey my unqualified endorsement. I think it’s entirely possible that one could do better. It’s just not very clear how one might go about it, and, in the meantime, he’s been our best d-lineman this year.

Tebow
i think most people’s knocks on tebow aren’t because he’s not a good player. quite the contrary, actually. he obviously had an amazing career at florida.
the reason i absolutely despise the mf’r is due to how he acts like he is god’s gift to the earth. as if god wants him to win, as if he’s entitled to win because of all these “missions” he goes on pounding people over the head with the “truth”. as if he’s entitled to win because of the bible verses on his eye black and after every victory (of which there are practically infinite) he first and foremost thanks his good lord and savior (as if god truly gives a fuck if florida wins). the guy is a class A douche, albeit a very good college football player. i am hoping against hope that he fails in the NFL; and I’ll first say that I will never NOT be a chiefs fan, but if that rat bastard somehow ended up in our red and gold next season I would probably projectile vomit my entire small intestine.

I’m NOT a Tebow fan and I don’t think his game will translate all that well into the NFL but, if you don’t like Tebow because he is an avid follower of Christ then, you need to take a look at yourself and ask, WTF is wrong with me because that is exactly what I’m wondering right now.

I’m not an overly religions person, but it bothers me how people are reprimanded for speaking their beliefs…he’s not telling you to believe what he believes, he’s just speaking his beliefs. Last I checked America/Canada are still Judeo/Christian nations and it even says “In God We Trust” on your money. Do you refuse to spend money because it’s too “In your face” A rediculous question obiously, but my point stands.

The god on a dollar bill could be any religion’s god but you assume it is the Judeo/Christian god.
I am a christian so dont take this the wrong way
Our country was founded by christian people who were trying to create a country FREE of religious oppression. They believed in the christian god yes, but the country they founded was not a christian (or any other religion) country. It was first and foremost a country of freedom. The founding fathers had come from a country of religious oppression and that is what they were trying to avoid.
The signs of their beliefs are evident everywhere, from our money to everything that they wrote. But the constitution makes it clear that freedom to believe anything that you choose was the goal.

Okay
Then why did they put up the 10 commandments in all the Gov buildings and why does congress say prayers before the start of every morning just like we use to do in school, and why do you have to swear on a bible in court.. why because this country was founded on christian principles but your right we established a bill of rights guaranting people freedoms.
"Christian" principles were the only principles that they knew
Sure there is evidence everywhere of their religion and principles, but they came from religious persecution and created the country to combat religious persecution. Freedom is the main idea here, even though their religion affected everything that they did.
I don't think they were Christian, so much as "Intelligent Design" types.
Heh. Our buddy Ben Stein (The “Buehler? …. Buehler?…” guy), actually did a documentary recently on how the anti-religious viewpoint is at least as intolerant as its opposite in today’s world. It’s more worrisome, to me, because in the absence of confirmation or any test that can possibly disconfirm, science should remain silent, but the scientific establishment is as intolerant and outspoken as any medieval Pope, even on matters where the facts aren’t very solid, either way, and the net complexity of life, as we know it, has yet to be reasonably explained by mere chance and natural selection. Not to say the facts WON’T eventually bear out Darwin’s extrapolations from his Galapagos findings, but the facts currently are gettin’ pretty squirrelly on that front.

KCCheeze: It’s fun to make sweeping generalizations that give us comfort. Like religions. Heh.
Just one more to throw at you, here, and then I’ll let it go:
It’s no more irrational to believe in something greater than to be certain there isn’t. Both involve acts of faith. Both kid themselves about having an inside track on Truth. Heh.
I am NOT a Tebow fan but, damn to just hate someone because they are a Christian...
Is no different than hating someone because they are black, or Jewish. No matter how I feel about a guy like Tebow, I think he is a very good person and I admire the fact that he loads praise on the God that he knows instead of heaping it on to himself. He has amazing Character and I hope he has a STELLAR NFL career (just not with the Chiefs)

WOAH. STOP.
you are completely putting words into my mouth. I never said anything about hating him BECAUSE of his personal beliefs. I despise the guy because of how he uses his immense exposure to, yes, pound HIS PERSONAL religion into peoples heads with every feel good piece and post game interview. As i stated before, I believe in the individuals right to choose which religion suits them. I despise street corner religious pandering; why would I accept it from this guy through my cable tv feed? Would you feel the same about an athlete if he were openly and aggressively muslim, or are you just pleased that this guy shares the same beliefs as you do? I do not hate people based on their personal beliefs, I just would prefer if I didn’t have to hear about his 24/7. and Im sure there are plenty people out there who agree with me.
and craig, just because i don’t agree with putting ‘in god we trust’ on our money doesn’t mean im not going to spend it because i mean come on, they are forcing my hand here ;)

but, you gotta also realize that his beliefs are his life…to him there is noone else to thank but his god. it is a 24/7 commitment. Just like it would be your commitment not to really share any of your personal beliefs with that type of exposure. Its just different, and well, surely you are ok with the right to be different.
of course
i’m ok with the right to be different. in fact i insist upon it ;)
however, i don’t like how he acts as if he’s got the inside track and knows something we don’t

Because that's what he believes.
And for all he knows, most of the folks he’s talking TO pretty much believe as he does. You’re putting intentions into him that you have no way of knowing.

tebow
Tebow can believe whatever he wants, but he doesn’t have to ram it down everyones throat! If all you do is spew god this and god that and god helped me score that touchdown it degrades your message. Colt McCoy is a pretty avid christian and you don’t hear him droning on. Plus Tebow acts like he is the only one who does mission work and all that and has such a holier than thou aura.
He will NOT make it as a QB in the NFL.
"would you feel the same way if he were a muslim"?
Sure I would if he were spending his free time helping people and trying his best to do the right things the way he was taught by his parents. Tebow is a person of very high character and to see a guy like him who could just as easily be an arrogent douchebag as opposed to an upstanding Christian who is leading by example. He is the kind of person I would want my son to become someday. Regardless of how I feel about him as a player.

Oh come off it already
Tebow is a FL QB which is the closest thing you can come to a guarantee he’s going to bust. He’s the most overrated prospect coming out in this class. I couldn’t stand the man crush’s on Sanchez last year, but at the least that kid played in a pro style offense and yanno…actually had an NFL caliber arm. Tebow is a cute college story but get over it already. You’re about two years late to the party, Canuck.
You quickly redeemed this post by moving onto Mock Drafts, which personally I think are more retarded than snuggies. What really grinds my gears is when we get into the heart of the off-season and practically the front page is filled with memeber’s mock’s. Please, Chris & Joel, spare us all and move all the upcoming mock’s to a linked category on the sidebar and leave the front page for Chiefs related news items. It’s really not worth missing news on the Chiefs latest signing’s and/or release’s because they’ve been bumped off the front page by some grown ass men playing Dungeons & Dragons with the NFL Draft. Last time I checked Mike Mayock wasn’t posting here.

The comments about "Tebow's arm" proves my point
People who question his arm don’t actually watch the games. They don’t like him and therefore badmouth anything they can grasp. Watch the Cotton Bowl. He made every throw he’s be required to make in the NFL.
And who gives a flying f*** about a strong arm. Montana didn’t have a strong arm and he had an alright career. Guys like Brodie Croyle, Jamarcus Russel and Kyle Boller can throw through the uprights on their knees from the 50 yard line but have what? a combined 10 wins between them?

agree on D Bowe but
he needs to have a hell of a year next year if he wants to prove he belongs, because he definatly took a step back this year. Hopefully he will learn alot from it though and get it corrected by next year. and I hope he and the other receivers spend alot of time this offseason with pass catching drills.
Tim Tebow
He can be a good NFL QB. He is tough, passionate and determination, which sometimes matters more than the skills measured by scouts. The scouts liked Leaf and Russel as prototypical NFL QBs so they can miss on some good players. Jax will give Tebow a chance and then he will prove his critics wrong again.
Good post, but sorry I like the mocks.
Kray don’t worry I will never post one only make remarks to those posted. To me mock is a good way to get to see players that I wouldn’t normally even think about, and I watch quite a bit of college football.
I hope we find out Tebow has been taking steroids
and is involved in a black market human trafficing ring.
I hope we find out Tebow’s missions are really just scouting expeditions for his involvement in the 3rd world slave trade.
I hope we find out Tebow’s nice guy routine is just marketing like pretty much every other nice guy athlete the media has jammed down our throats.
I hope Tebow starts dating Kate Hudson.

good post but
everyone will have to rec this one up to keep it on the front page, because today will probably hold another 34579 mock drafts so this post will be dust in the mock draft wind!
Craig - you da man! Great Post!
I don’t agree with everything you said, but it was well written and entertaining. Rec’d big time! And now you’ve gotten me interested in seeing Nine!
I’m with you big on the Mocks. One big reason is that I’m not into the college game. So I don’t know the players. I don’t get interested in the draft until the combine comes around. I agree with you about how insane it is that some draftniks (and teams – as you state) get into the combines and ignore how players did in college. But one of the big reasons for that is our own Christian Okoye. He might have been the first true combine wonder.
I think people are awfully negative on Tebow, and probably for the wrong reasons. Biggest legit knock I’ve heard about him is that he has a big wind up on his throw and he needs more of a snap release. I wouldn’t mind seeing the Chiefs draft him to start as a Kick Returner and WIld Cat back. But not until the third round, or better yet the fourth. I do understand why you like him.
But back to the Mocks. There are those who like them and those who don’t. I pretty much ignore the mocks. So how about agreeing that we’ll start flagging comments that toss mocks into non-draft threads. And (what I’ve found just as annoying) mock draft posts that have titles that seem to indicate they are something else. Then everyone can do their own thing in peace!
-"A man may be a fool and not know it, but not if he is married." - H.L. Mencken
Thanks Big Chief.
Yes, the biggest knock on Tebow is his mechanics when he winds up too much and the bigger and faster NFL will not permit him to get the ball out in time. I think something like this can be coached if he was given the right opportunity.

He certainly has the right to his opinions and may state them, but so does everyone else. I also don’t think the fact that Tebow is religious is a problem, more like he gives off the impression (to many) that if you’re not as overt as he is about your beliefs, you’re not as good as he is. I think a lot of this feeling is a product of the media’s incessant reporting about that part of his life.

the media props him up as some kind of superhero, there’s lots of other kids just like him who believe in "God " just as much & do just as much work in the community as Tebow does, they just don’t play for the Almighty Florida Gators in the Almighty SEC……I’m sick of hearing the media canonize this kid for being a gimmick QB in a gimmick offense. Florida getrs the best recruits in the country & Tebow full of grace would languish in a 2nd tier program.
He won his Heisman & his national title………..NEXT
i hated favre till he started playing football again... now i love him
listen to the mike’d youtube vid of favre, the guy is freakin hilarious
See, I don't get the Tebow hating
but I don’t follow College Ball. All I know of Tebow is what I’ve seen of him in a few bowl games and ESPN highlights. The only reason I know about his religious beliefs is that he rights scripture verses into his eye-black. I’ve only heard him interviewed a couple of times (I’m not all that interested in hearing what college players have to say) and have never heard him refer to his faith. I’ve seen him pump up his team and play a leader. I find most college coverage nauseating and so I have not been spoon fed any Tebow hype. So all you anti-Tebow guys please be aware that he’s a young guy that you may be sick of because you choose to watch way too much ESPN.
-"A man may be a fool and not know it, but not if he is married." - H.L. Mencken
correction - "writes scripture verses"
-"A man may be a fool and not know it, but not if he is married." - H.L. Mencken
And that is fine.
See, your point is that he comes of as smug and arrogant. Both of which are qualities that would cause reason for one to dislike another. My point was that too many people hate him simply because he’s a Christian. That’s not right.

I don't hate Tebow, I hate the media lovefest over Tebow
I don’t think he’ll be a great pro QB, a decent one maybe, but not anything like the success he had in college. A couple of reasons, are that he doesn’t have great accuracy, he under throws receivers a lot going deep. You can get away with this in college more as Florida’s athletes at WR are usually better than the athletes playing for any given school at corner. This won’t be true in the NFL very often.
Also, his throwing motion is very long. That effects his accuracy and makes him more prone to being sacked or stripped of the ball. Now, throwing motion can be fixed it is just hard to do. Tebow’s throwing motion problems are different than say Philip Rivers who tends to “push” the ball. His throwing motion is untraditional, but it still gets the ball out quickly.
He also doesn’t read defenses as well as you want an NFL QB to do. The Kentucky game is a good example. He should’ve noticed the blitz was coming and either gotten the ball away more quickly, moved protection, or run away from the pressure.
Now, I’m not saying these things can’t be fixed, but you draft players (especially high picks) on what you know they can do, not what you hope they can do.
I think the Alabama game would be what you should look at when evaluating Tebow, as that is the closest thing to an NFL defense that Tebow has faced. And while he didn’t have a field day like he usually does, he was able to drive down the field. With a good QB coach and hard work he could become better mechanically. Realistically, I think he’ll probably be drafted in round 1 or early in round 2 although he should be drafted in the third round. I think a lot of people will be disappointed because I don’t think he’ll ever be an elite pro QB, but I don’t doubt that he becomes a decent QB that could be a starter and be used in some trick plays or wildcat formation.
However, I don’t dislike Tebow personally, I actually kind of like him. I respect his leadership qualities and his hard work. And even as a non-religious person, I don’t mind the fact that he does mission trips and writes Bible verses underneath his eyes, although I’m tired of the media over-reporting it. I think that is what most people who say they don’t like Tebow are talking about.

Good post ajanzen. Thanks for chiming in as it shows you’ve actually watched the games and can get past personal emotions and analyze the actual football. I’m glad you brought up Philip Rivers. When I was in the shower this morning I was writing this in my head and was going to bring up other QB’s with unconventional throwing motions in the NFL but it slipped my mind.
If I had to bet money, I still say he’s a 1st round pick (Gatsby, the bet is still open) and doesn’t make it past Jacksonville. This makes sense on about 100 levels as they couldn’t sell out a playoff game and if I’m not mistaken, he is a local boy. Add to the fact the team needs to win now and Garrard hasn’t done squat since he got paid, I’d say it was a perfect fit. Plus they have a great RB to take some pressure off him.

Tebow
Tebow has an unbelievable ability to lead men! For one reason or another guys play hard for him, he is physically built to take hits and bad and slow deliveries out of college have been successful recently(philip rivers, tom brady) physical abilities are a small part of what makes a great quarterback, the intangables and his work ethic will translate well and i for one hopes he is successful( i am a volounteer fan,i hate florida!) as for bowe he has a lot of talent but i like to call him sir drops-alot! And he does and always has, we have been talking about it since he came in that all he needs is good coaching…. He will always drop passes, if it hasnt been fixed by now it will never be fixed, he does make big plays but he will always be i consistant and never be a star( i hope im wrong for the chiefs sake) i feel we need a legitimate #1 reciever . Not sure where he will come from but cassel needs someone he KNOWS will catch it everytime! He didnt have that this year and it wore on his confidence as the year went on and thats why his production was up and down. Our line can block! Look how jamal charles played with the same line! We need recievers that can catch and cassel will deliver! Mark my words!

cant disagree more on bowe
bad hands…the guy has horrible concentration, and is a poor route runner who does NOT give it his all…he has NEVER shown randy moss ability in catching the ball on the run, or catching the long pass…
so if he isnt fast, and is more of a possession guy who can make great goal line grabs, why cant he catch a darn ball when wide open? Discipline…Concentration…Effort.

Question for you
If he has poor hands, poor route running and poor concentration, what do you attribute the 2,000 yards and 12 TD’s in the first 2 years? It wasn’t because he had great QB’s throwing to him. Obiously he’s good at something? Like I said in the post, the last WR to post numbers that good in their first 2 years was Randy Moss.

I think less heat was on him those two years because of Tony.
Now that he’s the #1, most expected him to get thrown at more often…which, barring the suspension, he might have come close. However, when this offense was starting to “gel”, he wasn’t there, and Chambers got targeted more often. When Bowe came back, Cassel seemed to rely on Chambers still, and Bowe got a little “lost in the wash”.
Now, Bowe will almost always draw the #1 corner or a safety double team, which doesn’t help. In years past, Tony would get the safety double, and against lesser corners, Bowe could get open. A solid slot receiver in addition to Bowe/Chambers would’ve opened him up more. He can put up those numbers again with a full year and a little more help in the passing game.

Between Haley dogging him for his effort, lack of concentration leading to drops, and the mind-blowingly dumb excuse for his failed test I don’t see a guy that has what it takes to put it all together.
Glad I came, just wish I hadn't stayed so long.
retort
1) I dislike college football for the most part so i cant yay or nay, but he seems to be a decent guy regardless of his skills so whatever he decides to do I wish him much success.
2) Nail meets head on this one. I view mock drafts like playing an imaginary poker game by yourself. Its silly and borderline annoying.
3) Eh, this doesnt bother me so much, its pesudo-footballish stuff in the off-season. Passes the time.
4) Why not just include the entire cast?
5) Too much politics in this one, but I understand why its there and its sad that there needs to be rules like this in the first place.
6) D-Bowe haters are silly and not real football fans.
Prediction: 2009 AFC West gets Emmy for best drama.
Good stuff Craig
You know I also love me some Tebow! Not only do I believe what he does, I am a believer in his game! He is a leader and does whatever possible to motivate his guys to play their best. His delivery is not a problem to me…I think playing a tough conference like the SEC would show any flaws you may have in your game. Tebow will be successful wherever he goes. He is dead accurate and can run over some guys if need be.
Good for standing up for Tebow!!!

I like Tebow
But look at all the athletic heavy set college QBs who were amazing in college but failed miserably in the NFL. There are dozens. Most, even if they are on a team, don’t ever play and were huge busts. cough Jamarcus Russel cough
I hope the guy does well, but he isn’t a great prospect as a throwing QB. He needs work. Ok I’ll be a bit more specific. He needs work on his reads, and throwing motion. If he is good on the NFL level it will take some experience and coaching to fix those problems.
Vince Youngs throwing motion was a mess coming out of college and he has worked for years to improve to the average QB he is today.
O, and I absolutely loved the post.
Original and a very entertaining read. I rec’d it.
Thanks Lucas
The biggest difference between Jamarcus and Tebow is work ethic. Tebow is a gym rat and Jamarcus is a sewer rat.

I’ve read reports where Florida trainers would stop Tebow at 400 lbs in weight training exercises for fear of losing flexibility. He’s not big like fat, but big like thick. I’ve got no issue with Tebow. I think the Tebow love coverage is what most have a real issue whether they realize it or not.
I haven’t seen an interview yet where Tebow preaches to anyone or tells someone they’re going to hell. He seems to try to stay positive and lead by example, which has innumerable translations to the pro game.
I'm officially on the 'Draft Eric Berry' train.

and as far as Tebow goes….. I am not a fan of him and I’m not NOT a fan of him. I’ll admit I’ve hated my fair share of athletes over the years (Bill Romanowski anyone?), but that being said I don’t see how anyone can HATE an athlete because he talks about god or tries to spread or (as if he’s entitled to win because of all these "missions" he goes on pounding people over the head with the "truth") as The DBowe Show put it… This is the absolute biggest load of bullshit I’ve ever heard. Have you ever heard Tebow say “I am the chosen one and I will win because it is God’s will” HELL NO YOU HAVEN’T! He does what any athlete who believes in god and wishes to say it publicly by saying something like “You can do anything through Christ”. Yes that was our Beloved JAMAAL CHARLES. They are not trying to get YOU to believe that THEY are only good because they believe in GOD and GOD has chosen them to be higher than the rest of us.That’s absurd! Your problem Mr. DBowe, like the most of America, is that everything you see about college football anymore, you have to hear about Tebow. I’m sick of that too! But saying that he believes he is somehow “a chosen one” or “better than every athlete because he believe in god” is absolute nonsense. If you want to tear Tebow down, pick a better subject. And get a life.
WHAT
1TEBOW THROWS DUCKS PERIOD , GREAT PERSON NOT A GREAT NFL QB WATCH AND SEE.

Here’s the thing. You’re new. You have no idea what I contribute to this community. You know nothing about me. Here’s what I know about you. You made a typo in a post and I made a little joke about it. Instead of laughing it off like any normal human being would have done, you got your panties in a bunch and completely flipped out. So here’s some tips for you.
1) If you’re gong to call someone a “retard” as you did in your earlier comment, you should try to make sure that the comment does not leave yourself open to looking like an idiot.
2) When someone teases you about a mistake you make in a post where you question the intelligence of another poster, try to not to make ridiculous gramatical errors.
If you can’t even manage to know the difference between “your” and “you’re”, then the person with questionable intellect is you. Grow up. Get over. You made an ass of yourself. Stop compounding it with childish name calling. You know…try not to let everyone around here that you’re pathetic.

...and for both of you
The “AP” mandated spelling of “retard” is actually “retart”. Its a tad less offensive, and a tad more funny.

"Grammatical" has a pair of 'm's in it. Same as "Mmills."

Here's my take, craig
1) I’m tired of the media kissing Tebow’s ass. I don’t need to hear about Tebow making somebody a better person “by spending just 10 to 20 minutes with him”. I’m tired of the media making him look like a god. Now, on the other hand, am I tired of Tebow the competitor and Tebow the winner? No. He’s truly one of the most exciting players to watch in college football. And I do believe that he is the heart and soul of the Florida Gators football team. He puts the team first, and he never quits. That’s why I like Tebow so much. I don’t know how he’ll fare as an NFL QB, but as a passionate leader, I’d take him on my team any day.
2) I love mock drafts. Are they stupid? Yes. But they are fun and they certainly help time pass. Heck, even AP does a mock draft. I just don’t put too much stock into any of them.
3) I agree – the combine is a waste. If I want to know how good a player will be, I’ll just watch a bowl game. I won’t judge how good he is based on his bench press.
4) Avatar was sweet. I’m sure Kate Hudson dancing around was legit, but Avatar was way cooler.
5) I don’t care for the Rooney Rule. I don’t care what color my coach is – if he helps my team succeed, then I’m a happy camper.
6) I love D-Bowe. He just frustrates the hell outta me with his drops. That’s all. Anyone who thinks we should trade him is crazy.
I’m afraid I prematurely shot my wad on what was supposed to be a dry run, if you will, so now I’m afraid I have something of a mess on my hands. -Arrested Development

Good points mistamic
The “10 or 20 minutes” comment about Tebow was one of the stupidest things someone has ever said and is a big reason why people hate Tebow.

Thanks for that Craig, you made me laugh out loud!
Predictions:
Kansas City will not win more than four games in 2009
Kansas City will have a new OC and DC in 2010
Kansas City will win at least seven games in 2010
Actually that's true
He ran that 4.24 40 and vaulted up the draft. I’d venture however that for every Chris Johnson, there is 5 players who were drafted too early and a team reached on their value because of combine stats. Obviously I have zero stats to backup that claim so I could very well be dead wrong!

Tebow
I can’t stand him. I think he’s a fraud, and I’ll tell you why.
While I’ve watched several Florida games, I started noticing something about “Mr. Perfect.” He is NOT a team player. He wants the glory… and he wants it all for himself. I have watched that ass throw touchdowns after he couldn’t run it in and be upset. Everyone else was congratulatory to him and the person who caught the ball. He wasn’t even excited. He walked off the field sulking that he didn’t get the TD. I’ve seen this exact scenario happen on dozens of occasions.
Now as to whether he’ll be able to be a QB at the pro-level? I’ll never say he couldn’t. But I wouldn’t want him on my team. The kid has taken so much abuse rushing the ball himself that there’s no way he could take too many years of NFL punishment doing the same thing. That’s what would keep me from drafting him if I were a GM… unless he dropped to the 3rd-4th round, then I might consider it. But I wouldn’t touch that kid with the Al Davis pole of drafting because of the abuse he’s taken in college.
If you only knew...
Thaaaaaaank you
I was losing faith in humanity that its taken over a week for people to notice that.

D bowe has showed signs of greatness. He needs to take it to the next level. We need an offensive line that gives him more time to get open.
