5. Kansas City Chiefs
OLT Bryan Bulaga, IowaGM Scott Pioli needs to protect the investment he made in Matt Cassel and provide more time in the pocket for him to deliver. Pioli will have greater respect for a lineman well schooled by Kirk Ferentz, whom Pioli worked with in Cleveland.

i'm a huge hawk fan
but at #5, that’s a pretty big reach… I think it’s going to take him a few years to be a dominant player in the league and we need someone to be dominant right away
Yea
I seen a couple mocks with Pat Angerer goin to kc with 5th round pick. that would be sweet. little mentoring he could be awesome. and maybe pick up edds . that would be sweet
"Charles In Charge"
"Defense Wins Championships"
Hock--me too!
Got to admit, Bulaga is a work in progress…we’ve already got one of those in Albert, and by ’09’s end he was looking pretty good. I’d rather see us pick an interior lineman or two and let some of our young tackles grow up (Albert, Richardson, O’Callaghan, and Brown).
Which Hawk backer—AJ or Pat—would be a better fit for our defense? Discuss….

I'd have to go with Pat
He’s fast, sure tackler, and could get good drops in the middle of the field
Also a Hawkeye fan
Agree this is a reach.
I like Buluga a lot, but not at #5.

Yeah, 5 would be a monumental stretch for Bulaga
Bask in the glory that is Kwame Harris. Poor Alex...
If I remember correctly
Bulaga pretty well shut down Morgan of GT in their bowl game. Although I believe Brandon Graham of Michigan got the better of him when they met up. Bulaga’s good, not sure he’s top 5 good though.
Graham
I just saw he had 2 sacks and 4 tackles for loss and 9 total against Iowa. With how beastly he’s looked today at the Senior Bowl, I guess that qualifies for holding his own.

He's really a guy
I hop we target in the 2nd rd. if hes still available.
moeaki was helping out bulaga a lot during the orange bowl.

This might be
the worst mock draft I have ever seen. How is McCoy a better pass rusher than Suh? Did they not watch college football last year?
We pass on Berry to take Beluga
Who I think had health issues.
KC is more than fly-over country, it must be passing thought country too.
Just stick em with any old tackle cause Albert is a Right tackle and always has been :(

These Jan-April professional "mock drafters" really have no idea what's going on...
Either in the college game or with the pro teams they’re covering.

AHHHHHHH
Why the HELL does everyone having us taking a flippen OL in the first. does any one in this world think logical. all these so called experts are stagnate and have no original thoughts. there are plenty of things we could do in the first and most don’t entail us taking an o-line in the first.
Seriously mates, when have I ever been sarcastic?
Oh and in case you were wondering, that hug offer is still there when you are ready UC :p
Does it really matter
we just need more talent. We literally need players at every position.
yes it does
i’ve expressed my thoughts in other posts about taking o-line in the first and to sum it up i think it would be a waste of a #5 pick. but the point i was trying to make, and in my rash angry post i must have missed it, was that all these mock drafts are stagnate and they will pick any old LT for us just because the first mock drafts said that and they can’t think originally. they just change the player so they seem original but they are not.

Maybe
but we sure could use more OL help. And OL have a much smaller chance of being busts and as little impact as we’ve gotten from our last two 1st rounders (Jackson, Dorsey) I would really like to see us take someone that has a higher chance of being the player that people think they are before entering the NFL.
Neither McClain or Berry are going to be a bust
and a RT at 5 is silly

How
do u know they aren’t going to be busts?
Is Curry a Bust?

Not yet but
he was certainly very underwhelming last year.
Thank you Wilson
I don’t see either McClain or Berry as busts
Just maybe like Jackson not the pick at THE pick we are presented with.
I am glad Pioli is not so much worried with status quo that he would pass on good players cause he has to pick at 3 or 5.

Originally
you said they werent going to be busts. Now, you’re saying that you dont see them being busts, which means you’re acknowledging that there is a chnace that they could bust. And thats dumb when you’re as untalented as the chiefs to not take the best player available. We need players everywhere. Jackson will NEVER live up to being a #3 pick in the draft. Guaranteed. He won’t even live up to a 3rd or 4th rd. pick.
Not true
and Pioli agrees with me

Your Tackle of Choice has a bigger bust potential
than McClain or Berry. I was agreeing to the pick vs value equation.

are you on crack?
jackson will never live up to being a 3rd/4th rounder? you have to be out of your mind. his performance in the last half of the year was at least 3rd/4th round material.
Seriously mates, when have I ever been sarcastic?
Oh and in case you were wondering, that hug offer is still there when you are ready UC :p
dude
what are you talking about? Ok, name one play this season where he made an impact. His performance compared to what? We could have just added some 6’4’ 300 lb. guy in the 4th or 5th rd. and gotten the same production and impact.
he's a 3-4 DE he isn't going to have great stats.
you want us to pick an o-lineman with our #5; they are going to have less of an statistical impact then jackson. if you think any 4th rounder could have done the same thing as jackson you show me something to back it up. sure a 4th rounder COULD become a stud, but the chances are less likely which is the reason they get picked so low. wether or not jackson was #3 material is debatable, but saying he’s not ever worth a 3rd or 4th is absolutely ludicrous.

Well you must have a time machine then.....
What else does the future hold? They wouldn’t have picked him if they weren’t confident that he would be at the very least, great. Did I mention that he was a rookie this year? And what is the truth about rookie D-linemen?
we don't need a safe pick for crying out loud
we need the another DT. a player that changes the dynamic of the game. o-line is never going to be that.
Seriously mates, when have I ever been sarcastic?
Oh and in case you were wondering, that hug offer is still there when you are ready UC :p
Yeah
we do bc our last three 1st rd. picks are not really panning out so far and we can’t mess up again. If we draft another dud, it will set this franchise back another five years.
ok so we supposedly stunk up the last 3 drafts
so what. safe picks are just that safe picks. they will NEVER change the dynamic of the team. they will lock down their position but will never do anything more then that. to get a game changer you need to gamble. if you can name me one o-lineman that has singlehandedly won the SB for his team, i’ll shut up.

oh and i'd be down right pissed
if we passed on berry and he fell to the donks. no way in hell that happens but for arguments sake if it did, i’d be heading up a lynch mob for pioli.
Seriously mates, when have I ever been sarcastic?
Oh and in case you were wondering, that hug offer is still there when you are ready UC :p
But why do you like Berry
so much? We don’t even know how any of the players will pan out for 4-5 years. Ten. wasn’t a very good team last year and his stats weren’t overly impressive. I think he’s this year’s Aaron Curry, a guy everyone blows up before the draft but ends up not panning out or being a bust.
Seems that the HC was just passing through

stats aren't every thing
berry, and mcclain for the matter, have great field awareness. even if they don’t make the play they are always in the action.

Are you kidding me?
sometimes I think these guys that do these mock drafts just throw darts at a board and thats how they make their picks
Analize the players, talk to the players, see who fits the scheme, and who is smart enough
skilled enough to coach up to play for the Chiefs. Why do you think Darts is the Pioli way?

They base alot on past history
SP has a history of building the trenches before going out for big name position players. He went DL last draft and all the experts are expecting him to go OL this season. You or I could make picks and have as much chance as being right as these experts, probably more so. On another note, the IA players are very well coached and I expect if SP does go with LT it will be Bulaga and not Okung. We still can’t count out Berry, Bryant or McClain. The team has to be taking a hard look at all three of those guys.
If the Detriot don't take a LT to stave off the beatings Stafford is getting...
…then that’s why the Lions are the Lions.
As an Iowa alum and fan as well as a Chiefs fan...
…I agree with the posters at the beginning of the thread. Bulaga, when healthy, is a great offensive lineman and potentially a very solid starter in the NFL, if not a pro bowler, but, taking him at #5 would be a bit of a reach (much like, to be honest, Tyson Jackson was probably a reach at #3). If someone really wanted to trade into the top-5 and KC could trade down into the 10-15 range, pick up an extra first day pick, and grab Bulaga in that spot, I’d have no problem with the pick at all.
Thank you
I think we knew that but to have Hawkeyes sound off is an awesome thing :)
I love Weatherspoon yet he doesn’t fit the Chiefs scheme and Alexander is a very good WR
yet not a pick worth a 1 or 2 with the knee issue. AP is a great place to decide on true value with all the 1st person analysis.
