I think the stars have aligned

Pioli is gona make his bones off the 5th round of this draft. 3 picks in the top 13 of that round. pick 5 (ours), 11 ( the Thigpen trade) and 13 (Tank Tyler to the Panthers). He's had a year to get his scouting department in order, he's got Crennel coaching in the east-west game up close and all personal, and Weis as a head coach looking at all the talent for the last couple of years. Plus all of these extra underclassmen coming out early before the CBA gets locked down. The draft is deap this year and were drafting at the top of each round, No excuses. I think the stars have alined, and if so this is the draft a great team will be built on.

Completely agree

I see a lot of the East-West Shrine game players(esp. the East) being drafted by our team. Schofield,Troup,Barnes, and Saffold are names that you should watch for.

Barnes' routes

were phenomenal on just about every play during that game. BIG surprise, I had only heard the name in passing prior to that game.

5th round is where you pick and pray ...

… then pray some more

just hope this draft is as good as 2008 … if so, could be very good for us … if it’s like last year, it’ll be a waste and then some (Succop the major exception)

if those players are good next year from the '09 draft, was it a waste?

’08 draft looked a lot better this year than it did in ’08 from what i remember

The only players I hurt with my words are the ones who have an inflated opinion of their ability. I can't worry about that.

Just like almost every draft ever

Draft classes can’t be fairly judged for at least 2, usually 3-4 years later. I personally think our 09 draft is going to be a very solid foundation to the new regime. Tyson will be an anchor on our DL for the next 8-10 years, Magee is good depth with the ability to pressure for significant reps in certain packages, Succop’s foot is Win, and we’ve got several developmental guys with huge upside down the road a year or two. Not exactly what I’d call a “bad draft.”

That's fuckin hilarious!! Oh man Ups. Your my boy. You call em' like you see em' don't you?

I am going to rec’ it. You know why? Because I’m going to help you humiliate the author. You called em’ out. But you can’t green yourself. If it’s green, you know you stop and read it. Or try to anyway. Sometime’s I’ll rec. something really stupid. Just so everyone will read it and get mad lol. You just got pranked bitches!! It’ll be a really long one too. Something so long and boring that you get mad at the person who wrote it because someone just pranked you into reading it. And now that you started reading it, it’s SOOOOO fucking bad, that you can’t stop yourself.
Making you even madder at the entire situation. Yah that’s me. I do that occasionally. I’m bored in the offseason. I’m cyber praaaannnkkkinnngg. Ok I’ll stop.

Anyway, the point is, I’m greening so everyone will read it and laugh at the author. Not to be mean. Not to be mean. (this is one of those times in the past, if I didn’t use a disclaimer like this one, I would get flagged, SEEEE Joel, I’m learning). I don’t know the saracasm font.

Author, take this as good ribbing from those of us on here who post a lot. Just messin’ with you but it’s true. You gotta dig deeper if your going to pull that off correctly. Good luck!

brother kray, my man ... mind you now, the intent of my comment wasn't to "humiliate" the guy ...

… rather to “call him out” that this really doesn’t qualify as a POST … in fact, it’s not much of SHOT for that matter …

hell kray, most of us leave longer COMMENTS than this

maybe Joel or Chris has or will talk to the poster … hope so … again, be assured my INTENT wasn’t to HUMILIATE … if I’d wanted to do THAT … huge grin

And he might not be through yet

My thinking is he might trade down several times and end up as many as 12 picks. We might end up with a lot of 2 thru 5 picks. The same problem as with FA’s getting someone willing to play ball.

You don't make your "bones" in the 5th round

The 5th round is throw darts at the wall territory. If you get a good player there, its pretty much icing on the cake of whatever your first 3 rounds were.

by ChiefDJ on Jan 24, 2010 9:29 AM CST reply actions

Thats what carl peterson used to say

and now he aint here. plenty of solid players come out of the 5th round especially in a year with this kind of depth. If Pioli can hit with those three 5th rounders it will drastically speed up the pase of the rebuild. If he can’t I’ll doubt his credibility as a talent evaluator and leader of our team.

Well duh

If he can’t I’ll doubt his credibility as a talent evaluator and leader of our team.

See I think that is short sighted. I’m critical of Pioli because he hasn’t done much to improve the team (yet). But if we don’t end up with a couple starters from the 5th round, I’m not going to criticize him for THAT.

Sure good players come out of the 5th, 6th and 7th rounds. Good players come from being undrafted sometimes. But that is what I mean by its throwing a dart at the wall. Sometimes you get lucky and hit bigtime. Other times you completely miss. You still are evaluating players and trying to pick the best guy out there, but you don’t base the success of your draft on it.

Players that are still out there that late are there because a) They are not as physically gifted as others, b) they come from small schools where the level of competition they face makes it difficult to evaluate their real talent in the NFL.

We need to have realistic expectations. Pioli NEEDS to find good players in the 1st – 3rd rounds. You’re basically looking for backups and special teamers after that and hoping to find a gem in the rough.

by ChiefDJ on Jan 24, 2010 12:59 PM CST up reply actions

Hasn’t done much to improve the team yet? He took over a team in complete shambles. Doubled the win total, got a team that looked to have no fight under Herm, fighting in almost every game this year.

I’m not willing to say free pass for life or anything but don’t really see how anyone could expect much more out of Pioli his first year as gm.

Lets also not forget 3 5ths could also turn into a a higher pick with all that talent maybe able to get someone they would want in the 3rd who would normally be a late 1st,2nd round type talent in most drafts

YAYA first post

Could of made it longer, just wanted to see what others thought of the potential to build the team out of this draft and this is the stuff that sticks out to me. Cut me some slack I’v been reading your guys’s crap for couple years now. Peace be with you and also with you.

It’s ok. It’s a great topic and a good post really. It’s just not a post. It’s a poshotment. A post/shot/comment. I look forwrd to your next one.

REally, because either way, Up’s and I will either enjoy it, or it’ll be more opportunity for us to highlight your mistakes and degrade you publicly. Welcome to your initiation. (-:

Unfortunately,

it looks like ONE star will be out of alignment. And, that is the whole CBA problem effing up free agency. I think the Chiefs really need to get a couple of really good FAs to supplement the draft this year but this is going to make it harder.
