Report: Tom Cable Will Be Back With The Raiders in 2010
Our friends (friends?) to the west have decided that consistency may not be such a bad thing. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Tom Cable will return as the Oakland Raiders head coach in 2010.
Cable had one year remaining on his contract. But after meeting with Cable again this week, Davis made a decision that will be popular among players by keeping his head coach in place, the source said.
Cable had widespread support throughout the players in the Raiders locker room.
So, Cable is coming back as a lame duck coach. That should inspire confidence.
The Raiders still maintain that no decision has been made. Hmm...the Raiders won't confirm media reports? That's weird.

How so?
That team was pretty not bad once Jamarcus was replaced, then went back to being horrible when Gradkowski, or Gostkowski or whatverski that dudes name was went down.

Jamarcus is ultimately going to be the reason Al Davis relenquishes some of his control.
The Crazy thing is they have Paul Hackett as their QB coach, who is widely thought to be the best QB coach in the game

It's great news for two reasons.
a) Cable has shown only a minimal shred of competency this year. The only reason they got anywhere with Gradkowski was that teams didn’t have any material upon which to prepare for him.
b) He’s already become embroiled in two distracting scandals, in a short four months. He’s going to screw up again somehow.

I dunno about that
Gradkowski can throw passes to people that do not hit them in the feet. The Raiders have tons of talent, they should be better. And they showed improvement when Jamarcus was not their QB.
My thinking is that as long as the Raiders change coaches every year then they aren’t going to get better, its when they stick with a guy that they are going to get better.

A valid point
It’s just that when the man they stick with is Tom Cable, I think it’s more of an advantage.
Granted, no matter what happens, we have the Al Davis advantage.

I dunno
If he gets a decent FA QB Oakland could be dangerous.
i 100% agree
They are probably a playoff team last year with Jeff Garcia. I don’t know what FA QB is on the market right now that they’d take a chance on but we should hope Jamarcus is back in 2010. If I’m Al Davis I send Phili a 2nd rounder for Donovan Mcnabb.

I also agree
They have some talent and they like their coach. If Cable has the guts to keep JR on the bench in spite of Al Davis, they might actually be decent. I think this is better news for Raiders fans than it is for us.
Braccae illae virides cum subucula rosea et tunica Caledonia-quam elenganter concinnatur!
I wonder what this means for Jamarcus?
Cable had no plans of using him as starting QB. Or maybe keeping Jatubby as the starter was a condition for him to keep his job as head coach.
Even if JaMarcus stays
He won’t make it through the season, they’ll probably get a shot at the playoffs next year. Oakland has a nice D, solid O-Line. A QB and a pass rusher and a WR’s coach away if they can keep most of their FA’s.
Oakland could be dangerous.
Your Right
The should have been dangerous for many years

j russ is a bust they need to get over it the
Guy just doesn’t have the heart to b better. He has all the skills to b good but he doesn’t have the supporting cast in coaches to make this guy good and he don’t have the desire to b good.

think about it ...
Cable had widespread support throughout the players in the Raiders locker room
… perhaps … but not widespread support from (former) assistant coaches

Our friends Should read “The Raiders of the west ARE FIENDS.”

The Best News For The Chiefs In That
Is that it likely means Al Davis is going to demand that Cable start JaMarcus Russell. :)
Seriously, there’s no better sign that Al Davis has gone senile than his apparent unconditional support for Russell. Even casual fans can see the guy can’t play and his behavior off the field indicates he doesn’t care. Sadly for the Raiders, there’s no way for him to get stripped of ownership…they just have to wait for him to die.
