Two Chiefs Named to All-Rookie Team
Last season didn't have many bright spots for the Chiefs, but the first draft under Pioli seems to be on the right track. DE Tyson Jackson and K Ryan Succop have been named to the 2009 All-Rookie team by the Pro Football Writers of America and Pro Football Weekly.
As we all know, Succop had a record setting season for a Chiefs kicker and one of the best seasons for any rookie kicker in nearly three decades. Tyson Jackson, on the other hand, didn't set any records but was a solid player that appeared in all 16 games this past season.
The Chiefs will need to build on their young nucleus for next season, and so far it seems like they are off to a good start.
After the jump is the full roster of the All-Rookie team via Bob Gretz.

slim pickens at QB
Yeah all Sanchez has only won two playoff games on the road. What a chump.

Ya, Sanchez is awesome.
First of all, the rankings are for the regular season where he was the 830th ranked QB and the road playoff wins had nothing to do with him. I’m not going to say he’s going to be a bad QB, I’m saying he was terrible this year.
Just to rattle your cage I’ll bring up the fact that if (healthy) Favre was playing this year in NY and he had the same defense around him, they’d cancel the rest of the playoffs and just hand them the Lombardi Trophy.

Slim pickings
at DL too if T. Jackson made it.
Actually, Jackson 2nd in tackles last year
out of all rookies with 38 combined. Here’s the full list

Further evidence that DL need time to develop
Rookies do not play much their first year, typically. Jackson was thrown into the flames right away. Of course, that is what you expect with a top 5 pick, a player that will start right away.
I am a Jackson supporter, but agree he could have done better. I think we’ll see improvement over the next two years, enough that he’ll warrant the money he makes.
Jacob Lacey
Over Jerraud Powers? I mean Lacey had a very good rookie season, I just would have expected Powers over him. Am I crazy or blatantly wrong in that perception?
Interesting that none of the top selected OT's
….are on the list (or deserve to be): monroe, jason smith, andre smith. Granted all with injury probs I believe so too soon to tell. But I must admit I feel a bit bettter about jackson when seeing that a lot of the picks that were being bandied about (above + curry). Louis Vasquez seems to be a great 3rd rounder for SD. WR seems to produce lots of early dividends, noting that maclin is not on the list. The real steal seems to be succup. No on other than cosby (undrafted?), stephens-howling or mcafee appears to have been selected after the third round and succup has produced the most among those 4
Ryan Succop
Is the real deal. He will only get better.
