KCChiefs.com Hands Out the Hardware

Josh Looney over at KCChiefs.com is handing out a few awards for the Kansas City Chiefs 2009 season. These aren't official Chiefs awards - just Josh's - but interesting nonetheless.

Here's how he stacks up on these awards:

Comeback Player of the Year – QB Brodie Croyle

Role Player of the Year – OL Wade Smith

Breakthrough Player of the Year – RB Jamaal Charles

Offensive Player of the Year – RB Jamaal Charles

Defensive Player of the Year – CB Brandon Flowers

Rookie of the Year – K Ryan Succop

Hard to argue much, is it?

Also, check out Josh's blog as he runs down the offensive line.

His MVP? Rudy Niswanger

Should have read:

Tim Tebow is a RB

That would be a great 1st round pick Craig!

Everyone believes black or white. It's the gray area we argue about.

Scraping The Barrel For Comeback POY

Not that Croyle didn’t have a good game against Baltimore, but the dude only played in three games all year and started one. The only reason he’d merit that award is because the rest of the team is so terrible. Hali should have gotten that award.

Besides, doesn’t being a “comeback” player indicate that you were at one point good, then dropped off, then improved again? When was Croyle ever good the first time?

No Argument With The Other Awards

Just that Hali got robbed on the first one by a backup QB who threw for 230 yards.

Hali wouldn't really qualify for Comeback POY

He didn’t really go anywhere, then come back.
Sucking one year, then being better the next isn’t technically “coming back”

It's Closer Than What Croyle Did

Sucking for pretty much an entire NFL career, then having one decent start (which he lost). At least Hali established a level of decent performance his first two years and reeestablished it in his fourth. And he did it while playing a different position.

And Hali's 2008 Season Was Terrible

Really, really bad. He was not a good defensive lineman without Jared Allen working opposite him. But he’s turned into a very serviceable OLB who’s made himself an asset to the team when few thought he’d be that good, and if that’s not a comeback, I don’t know what is.

Comeback in this case

is seen as a comeback from an injury. So realy Croyle gets it by default since he is the only one on the team that qualifies.

Hali Was Injured Last Season

According to him. He just didn’t miss games.

There is something to be said for durability

So Rudy deserves some credit there. I think he could still be a very useful backup as he is still relatively young. He could even progress next year, but I would still like to see an upgrade.

Niswanger the MVP. What does that stand for.

a. Most Valuable Player
b. Most Victimized Player
c. Most Valuable Pylon

Something about words and my mouth

MVP stands for B imo. Rudy would have a hard time being “most valued” on a college OL.

Bask in the glory that is Kwame Harris. Poor Alex...

M – Most
V – Valueable
P – Position to replace

Only change

Role player – Terrance Copper

Guy dominated special teams

Wade Smith is a Role Player huh?

I bet he’s a level 28 barbarian mage that specializes in protection spells.

Ok. That was very nerd.

My sentiments are likely to be summed up with one of these 2 quotes:

"Shut the f--- up."- Matt Cassel
"WHAT THE F---?!?!"- Todd Haley

+1

I wonder what his charisma rating is? :)
