2001 New England Pats Defense

Just wanted to see what talent Romeo had when they won the first title as I did not remember them being loaded with stars.  This was taken from a late october game that year.

LE Bobby Hamilton

NT Brandon Mitchell

DT Anthony Pleasant

RE Roman Phifer

SLB MIke Vrabel

MLB Bryan Cox

WLB Tedy Bruschi

LCB Ty Law

RCB Otis Smith

SS Lawyer Milloy

FS Matt Stevens

Notable backups:

DT Seymour

DE McGinest

A lot of vets and solid players but nothing amazing.  Milloy and Law where great players.  Seymour and Light where Rookies.  I would argue we might have as much talent on our defense already.  I think these 4 players alone stack up well.

DE Dorsey

DE Jackson (underachieved but DL always takes more time)

OLB Hali

CB Flowers

Take it for what it is worth but i thought it was interesting...

One more nugget that made me laugh.  NE starting WRs that year....

David Patten and Troy Brown

oh and starting RB Antowain Smith

We have both Coordinators, GM, and 4 picks in the top 3 rounds plus Free Agency...this should be interesting.

Wow – great insight on Pioli

"The way this works is you string together some good games, some good practices and you get momentum and you gain confidence," linebacker Mike Vrabel said. "It can be a real positive for your team. It builds on itself."

Great read.

rec'd ... good one

My long, drawn-out predictions that no one cares about, nor will bother to remember:

1. Todd Haley will still be the Chiefs Head Coach up to the 2011 season.
2. Clancy Pendergast won't make it to the 2010 season and was never intended to. Last-minute hire for a position that needed to be filled.
3. Todd Haley will not be the OC at the start of the 2010 season.

wow

that’s an amazing article and a ton of work.

Around here it seems like people have been thinking Pioli will not use FA too much. Of course, some of that speculation is because of the CBA problem. But, he could surprise us and be similar to Pioli I in that article and chase a good number of FAs.

I'm telling you right now

We are at least a year or two from getting quality free agents, and there is nothing Scott can do. It will be a repeat of last year.

Aw come on now....

The Chiefs will easily win twice as many games as 09. Plus, we won’t have the growing pains from installing new systems that we had. The Chiefs will get off to a much better start in 2010…Still, probably just a .500 team though.

Gordymule is drinking the bitter kool-aid…You need to add some sugar to that!

Your forgetting that biggiest part of that team Tom freaking brady!! We have Matt"Scott Mitchell 2.0" Cassel at the helm, it makes a lot of difference, I love the moves the Chiefs are making, I just want #7 to prove all the haters wrong(including myself) that he can do more than overthrow wide open receivers and actually get rid of the ball everyonce in awhile, instead of running into sacks. I know there were ridiculous amounts of dropped passes but how many of those drops were 2 yard dumps or wr screens come on now, almost every big time throw we needed down field was either overthrown or underthrown(besides vs the donkeys to Copper) Please Matt prove to me your not a bumm!!

Remember Tom Brady wasn’t always the Tom Brady we know today, in his first 2-3 years starting he managed the offense and didn’t turn the ball over, that’s it. He never put up the numbers that we know of today untill Moss/Welker

I think Charlie Weis will help get Cassel where he needs to be.

He was the one who turned Tom Brady into a Superstar from a 7th round pick… I’m not saying he’ll be the next Brady but, he will improve a lot with Weis’ help.

I hope so, I was just so unimpressed with his play this year, anything Weis can do to help him will be a upgrade over this year, He doesn’t have to be he next Tom Brady, with JC, and if our Defense can become.respectful again, I think the Chiefs can contend year in and out in the AFC West, alot of potential on this team let’s just hope the New additions of Weis/Crennel can teach them how to use it correctly and become quality players like we know they can be.

I agree with you and...

It’s been pretty well documented around here that I have not been happy with Cassel’s play either. However, I don’t think he sucks so bad that he isn’t worth a little patience. I believe the hiring of Weis is EXACTLY what Cassel needs. Also, think about Brodie. He has potential to become a complete STUD under the coaching of Charlie Weis.

I truly don’t think we’ll be talking about our QBs at this time next year other than offering up praise for their performance.

I have made my thoughts on the play of #7 well known

He sucked last year. But the biggest problems are really coachable and throwing a better deep ball, he might be able to fix that too a be a solid QB. I feel a lot better about where our QB play will be with Weis around than with Todd doing everything.

Sorry

Just saw the actually title to this Fp! I saw you mention some of the wideouts and A. Smith and ASSumed it said the 2001 pats as a team, not just the D, if you look at it that way I agree and it really shows you how great of a job these guys did coaching the. “right guys”

I think cheating is just the patriothater thing

Maybe the patriots cheated to win some game so what. Did it give an real edge on offense. It comes down to one man beating another and making a play. People need to stop making an excuse and grow up. I am deployed in afghanistan(Army Seargant from St.Joseph Missouri). GO CHIEFS
