Report: Romeo Crennel Picks Chiefs, Not Giants
Vinny DiTrani of NorthJersey.com (online version of The Record and the Boston Herald) is reporting Romeo Crennel will join the Kansas City Chiefs as its defensive coordinator.
Nothing’s official yet, but according to a league source, Romeo Crennel will be joining the coaching staff in Kansas City and not with the Giants. Crennel would be reunited with Charlie Weis and Scott Pioli in KC. The trio had a lot ot do with the success of the Patriots.
Also another team will be firing its DC later today, opening another job and throwing anothert candidate onto the market.
Key words in there are "Nothing's official yet" but it does jive with what Adam Schefter of ESPN has been saying for a couple weeks.
DiTrani has been hot on the Crennel beat over the past week so this is a credible source. Again, not official yet, but we'll let you know as soon as anything more comes.
(H/T golfbard for getting it to me first)

Who is this other DC?
Haley could start to get a complex, him being the only NON-Ex-Pat, hope he’s truly on board with this, IF it happens.
Next year it is complete...
Haley gets demoted to WR coach to make room for Belichick to reunite with Weis, Crennel, and Pioli!

My long, drawn-out predictions that no one cares about, nor will bother to remember:
1. Todd Haley will still be the Chiefs Head Coach up to the 2011 season.
2. Clancy Pendergast won't make it to the 2010 season and was never intended to. Last-minute hire for a position that needed to be filled.
3. Todd Haley will not be the OC at the start of the 2010 season.
Weis, Crennel, and Pioli
That has to demand some respect from the rest of the NFL if it happens.

and hopefully it will demand some respect from free agents
And hopefully it'll demand some respect from the guys that schedule the primetime games
I just wanna be able to watch my Chiefs play one SNF or MNF game next year.

Besides, wouldnt you want the chiefs to be a good team when we’re in the national spotlight. I kinda want to be able to be able to boast about my team WINNING. In front of the whole country too. I want them to EARN the primetime game. That is the team we want to show off… 2011 yes. Lets see them prove greatness to us first. Then prove it to the rest of the nfl.

SNF yes, MNF no
I’d love to see them in prime time Sunday. But, since I’m out of the metro area I would have to watch them on ESPN on Monday Night and that would mean making a trip to the bar. Yes, I use an antenna – no cable or satelite

Chris Johnson and Jamal Charles could be a big incentive to go prime-time. We shall see!
No we won't
Not until this team improves. KC is a small market team so we have other obstacles that work against the team other than the fact that our team is just not very good. We will have to have a winning season before Arrowhead sees primetime action again.

It's different though.
The raiders have a MUCH larger fanbase than KC. Their fans (regardless of how bad they stink) reaches much further than the KC market. They are going to draw a LOT more viewers than the Chiefs and that is why they always get at least one primetime game. Like I said before, the Chiefs won’t land a primetime game until they have shown themselves not to be a cellar dweller like the national media portrays them. If they DO get a primetime game, it will be against a popular team with a HUGE fanbase to offset the fact that KC has a limited (but very loyal) fanbase.

NFL Network needs to be removed from the list of Networks able to show games. It’s too expensive and I don’t see how they are making any kind of substantial TV revenue from it. Plus, I don’t have it so…I hate it.

What about Belichick? There have been rumblings that he and Pats owner Robert Kraft haven’t exactly been on the greatest of terms since the whole “Spygate” mess of ’07. There was even some speculation that Belichick was prepared to leave the Patriots at the end of that season and the only reason he chose to stick around was the fact the team fell short of perfection by losing to the New York Giants in the Super Bowl.
As soon as I read that I thought to myself: Haley had better take KC to the playoffs soon if he wants doesn’t want to be a casualty.

hmm...
so you are willing to admit that those vaunted Patriot’s defenses that were just as good after Crennel left, were due in large part to the Patriot’s talent and Bill B, and yet you don’t care and are still willing to get excited about this potential hiring?
You gotta love this place.
Your question was
“giving Romeo Crennel the lion’s share of credit for the success of those Patriot’s defenses and not Bill B.?”
My answer is: “nope”
We’re not giving him more credit. There are 4 people who deserve significant credit for what happened on D in NE. Parcells for inventing the scheme. Hoodie for bringing it to NE. Pioli for aquiring the players who fit it. And Crennel for coaching it an calling the plays. Who deserves more than anotehr and by how much? Who cares? They all did a great job.

averaged 17 points against them when he was there, and 17 against for the 4 years after he left when they still had most of the same players only older. I’m not saying he won’t be a good defensive coordinator, I’m saying at this point, I would be unmoved.

His last 2 years in NE
his D’s were 1st (2003) and 2nd )2004) in scoring D. The Pats D has never been quite that good again. You don’t need to be moved. But if you’re giving all the credit to Hoodie (as some do) then you’re off base. It will never cease to amaze me how Hoodie is considered to be a genius in everything except hiring coaches. Why is it that no matter how much he says the credit for drafting should go to Pioli and coaching should go to Crennel and Weis, nobody pays attention.
He’s a genius in all things, except those things that don’t fit our outsiders perspective.

The fact is...
The Pats haven’t won a SB since Weis and Crennell left. They have been very good but, not good enough to win the big one. Maybe it’s coincidence, maybe not.
regardless of the defensive record in Cleveland, Crennell is widely known as one of the best 3-4 minds in the game. His attention to the D-line makes him the best fit for KC since we have a VERY talented young line who has yet to reach it’s potential. This will be a good hire if it happens. I am not going to get too excited until the Chiefs make an official announcement. too many things can happen.
Good thinking 1970

This is better than Christmas. How can this be negative? Top oc and DC on the market coming to arrowhead. Followed by FA’ s and rings,

Inside Info
Some dude told me that they spotted Romeo in Kansas City this afternoon buying a house. He had funny lips, like a fish…
Did anyone else hear about this???

My long, drawn-out predictions that no one cares about, nor will bother to remember:
1. Todd Haley will still be the Chiefs Head Coach up to the 2011 season.
2. Clancy Pendergast won't make it to the 2010 season and was never intended to. Last-minute hire for a position that needed to be filled.
3. Todd Haley will not be the OC at the start of the 2010 season.
I fully expected that to slip by without anyone getting it
kudos to you sir

What is interesting is that is a life size picture of Romeo on the back.
Everyone believes black or white. It's the gray area we argue about.
Actually the Chiefs tell him this is his plane and lure him to the bus with BBQ and doughnuts.
The life size Crennel pic on the back is just eye candy for us. Growl.

i was thinking
Now that we got some good guys 2 help call the shots around here well there 1 good guy for sure why don’t we spice up the uniform a little or the 2010 season and many more to come i mean come on i own a few Chiefs jerseys but there ugly i will wear them to the game but not any where else….So what im saying is lets go in to this season ready to play and in style
~Im a star n the making just ask about me im soon to be da Chiefs 1st round pick~
If spicing up the uni's means going back to the All Whites
Then I agree. If it means changing anything else….well then I’m out.
If every Chiefs jersey you wear is ugly
maybe it’s you.
Just sayin. :)

If anything, I think they should simplify the uniform to look like a red version of the pit state unis.
Red Helmet, Red Shirt, White Pants, Red Socks, Red shoes.
Like the throwback practice uni that LJ was wearing in camp. That was so awesome looking.

yeah, I actually liked their Texans throwbacks, sans the "Texans" logo. Stick an arrowhead on those helmets, and I'd be 100% game. The current unis have too much gold. Looks VERY 90s/Starter-jacket-ish.

The chiefs draft/pick up some acutal first class talent
for these coordinators to work with. They can be world-beater coaches but we’ll be calling for these guys to be replaced next season if there’s no talent.

All they have to show is improvement
at least that’s all a rational person would need to see.

if Crennel does come on-board (amazing since Todd's never talked to him, although he MAY have talked to Crenne;s agent, ha!)
… IF he comes on as DC … and with Weis as OC … we’d better see some improvement, and if not, we won’t be able to “blame the coaching”
hi, Mo!
5 minutes!!!
Blame CASSEL!!!!!!!!!!! AH HA HA HA! Your dreams are coming true upamtn! Go Chiefs.
Everyone believes black or white. It's the gray area we argue about.
Haley can be a good coach in the NFL, this may be the start!
These two guys can further mentor Todd and hone his skills has HC. These two moves can place Todd in a position to be a long term coach for KC. I love this, please let it happen. Also, I believe it will further assist us in attracting free agents and talented players. What a staff, the AFC West better be concerned!

Maybe
some butts in the stands
That would be awesome too. Any idea if season tickets are moving better right now?

Lots of tweets on Romeo Crennel to Chiefs — not done yet, but will be. Crennel will wind up on Kansas City’s defensive staff in 2010.
