VIDEO: Ravens LB Ray Lewis on the Chiefs Rushing Attack

Video courtesy WNST.net

Baltimore Ravens LB Ray Lewis took some time out from practice today to talk about the Kansas City Chiefs rushing attack.

Lewis, of course, is the vocal and physical leader of the Ravens defense.  He talked a little bit about the Chiefs running backs Larry Johnson and Jamaal Charles.

On Larry Johnson:

"He's probably one of the best backs in the league.  Of course, he's had a few up and down games and up and down seasons.  But the bottomline is that he plays the game the way the game's supposed to be played.

"We understand that. They like to run the ball and we like to stop the run.  That's what you really grab from this type of battle.

"They're going to come in and try to establish him."

On Jamaal Charles:

"The guy that impresses me the most is Jamaal Charles, the young guy from Texas.  He really gets out of the backfield and finds a way to get the ball in his hands and has a lot of good speed."

Ray Ray

I just hope that if Cassel is in there this weekend… Big Old Ray Ray doesnt get an open shot at him… I might just throw up a bit if I see that one coming!!! Shame to waste that BBQ!

I'm sorry

but everytime I see Ray Lewis now, all I can think about is that SNL cartoon. lol

by jcru on Sep 9, 2009 2:11 PM CDT reply actions

Really?

I didn’t know that. I’m assuming the cartoon poked fun at Lewis’ “legal” issues from earlier this decade.

I’m afraid I prematurely shot my wad on what was supposed to be a dry run, if you will, so now I’m afraid I have something of a mess on my hands. -Arrested Development

"I didn’t see nuthin!"

With eyesight that poor, he’ll never see Charles scampering around. No wonder he’s concerned about Jamaal.

I think losing Bart Scott and Rex Ryan is going to hurt the Ravens.....

…..Ray isn’t getting any younger and losing a probowl LB is only going to expose some of this defense’s weeknesses. I just think Rex was a HUGE difference maker for Ravens, should be interesting without him.

Leave the gun. Take the cannoli.

I'm sure thats part of the reason to move to a 4-3 for them...

that and having gregg and ngata on the field at the same time is just scary.

I just think the Ravens “D” scares people.

by TonyG88 on Sep 9, 2009 2:49 PM CDT up reply actions

I say it, for the same reason I questioned spending $60 million on a QB before the O-Line was fixed.

Then I expected they’d fix it in the draft. Then I expected someone to emerge from the conditioning and godlike Haley presence. Now I’m HOPING that this last round of talent searching for OL will lead to something, but it’s STILL a lot of dough to have invested in a QB, who’s still moving “gingerly” in practice. Yeah, I question putting him out there, short term. Long term, he’s our best QB. Short term, if that knee ain’t 100%, and the line ain’t gettin’ it done, I advise holding Cassel out or at least limiting his exposure.

No question. Otis Taylor should be in the Hall of Fame.

I don’t think it has anything to do with the Raven’s D so much as you simply do not rush back 60 million dollar qbs early from serious injury. If hes not 100% I say sit him. The REALITY of the situation is our oline stinks, so lets not make things worse and put Cassel in danger of getting even worse if he’s not as mobile as he usually is.

ps Ray Lewis had positives to say about two of our RBs. I didn’t hear anything about our Oline or Passing game…

I don't want no Yo-Yos

I agree..

I am a Patriots fan and wish Cassel the best of luck and I too hate it when people wish injury upon players. That shows no class especially when its your own team! How do you get the green thumbs up like the one on this comment?

I'm not buying Flacco either

dude completed like 50 percent of his passes last year.

by Sudden on Sep 9, 2009 3:35 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions

Man what a f*cking bad ass he is.
I would love for our D to find a leader half the player that Lewis is. No wonder that D is so good.
I honestly thought that losing Scott and Ryan would really hurt the Ravens, and it will to a minor extent, but you know the players around someone like Ray Ray have to ready to rip people’s heads off when he gets in the zone.
Then mix up Reed in the secondary, ugh.
I know he had his legal issues but that man was born to play and lead others in football, one of the best ever, if not in abilities and statistics but just what he brings onto the football field ever Sunday. Wow.

That being said, if in some way we can find a way to beat them, on the road, to start off the season, there is no telling what else would be possible.

To Pioli-
Dorsey came into camp out of shape, he has sucked so far this preseason-
SHOP HIM AROUND!!!

Whenever I think of Ray Lewis

I always think of the game in 2003 or 2004, when T-Rich and Willie Roaf were blowing him up all day and left him bloodied and helpless. Chiefs ran all over them that day. Man….I miss T-Rich.

We can beat them at their own game. DEFENSE.

1. Pressure Flacco and don’t let him pass over the top.
2. Linebackers – KNOW YOUR ASSIGNMENTS!
3. LJ needs to get to the outside.
4. Cassel on the quick slant.

Chiefs 17
Ravens 10

by Justin Bopp on Sep 9, 2009 2:51 PM CDT reply actions

call me crazy, but...

I don’t think losing scott and rex is gonna hurt the ravens nearly as much as everyone seems to think. This defense was one of the greatest ever before rex became the DC and before bart scott arrived. Ray ray is the constant, he is the leader, and he is the primary reason this D is so damn good year in and year out. That defense will still be a top 3-5 D

For justice we must go to Don Pioli

well…ya asked for it.

1. Tank Tyler will end up surprising everyone and be the anchor of our line.

I know 1 thing...

…This game is gonna get NASTY! I thought several times that our 1st team D looked aggressive and I think they are going to flat get after it! Prepare for some hard hitting ladies and gentlemen. To the Ravens I say BRING IT.

one way or another it’s a Ravens Eagles super bowl this year

Maybe I'm just biased.

But I don’t see the Ravens getting close to the superbowl. IF they even get into the playoffs it will be as a wildcard.
