Around SBN: Jeremy Lin Sets Assist High In Easy Win Over Sacramento

NFL Network's Mike Lombardi reports that Matt Cassel (knee) is "50-50" to face the Ravens in Week 1.

Lombardi says Cassel practiced "gingerly" Monday, and we can probably expect him to be a game-time decision for Sunday's 1ET game.

I don't think Cassel should play this Sunday

That Baltimore D will eat him alive. Our line sucks ass, and Ray Lewis & Co. would show no mercy on him and his knee. If he’s healthy by Sunday morning, then I say let him play! But I don’t want him to take any chances on reaggrivating it again on Sunday.

I’m afraid I prematurely shot my wad on what was supposed to be a dry run, if you will, so now I’m afraid I have something of a mess on my hands. -Arrested Development

Well....

Then he’s just going to have to get rid of that goddamn football before they get to him, wont he? Seriously…a few quick slants and screens and that blitzing will STOP.

At least that’s what Madden has taught me :-D

That and...

The team that scores the most points will win the game.

Wait...

you mean the object is to score more than the other team? Here I thought people only cared about yards and other meaningless stats.

If that was the case...

…we would have played the lions in the super bowl last year.

We won't score 10 points if Brodie's in there

I can’t wait til cassel gets in there because I’m tired of watching regular season games where Brodie plays…Yawn

How many years are we gonna have to put up with this?

by CALIFAN1986 on Sep 7, 2009 10:12 PM CDT reply actions

If brodie plays...

then Reed will get about 6 INT’s this game….
I hope Cassel will play but if hes not 100% then i dont want him in there…im willing to sacrafice croyle and maybe put up a loss so our franchise qb will be 100% by week 2.

by Wrestler189s on Sep 7, 2009 10:28 PM CDT reply actions

I like how the entire fan base is so willing to..

Throw Croyle to the dogs….

I mean at least wish the guy luck before you sacrifice his career for your franchise!

by Lucasjr5 on Sep 7, 2009 11:02 PM CDT up reply actions

You'd prefer Thigpen start Game One?

Or is it that you’d rather throw Cassel to the crows?

Cassel vs. Thigpen in Camp should improve the play of both.
Linebackers: looking better
D-lineL slight improvement
O-line: WTF?!?

by Bleedingredandgold on Sep 7, 2009 11:10 PM CDT up reply actions

We've given croyle so many chances by now it seems a bit

too generous to continue to support him..

I hope the guy shows up and moves us down the field..He will make some passes for sure, but every drive seems to fall apart after a few first downs and he simply can’t score touchdowns..

I won’t bring up thigpen, but my huge knock on Croyle is the fact that he’s never scored more than 1 td in a game..That bothers me and it makes for a boring ass game..

At least during the vermeil years we were actually a lot of fun to watch..The only thing worse than not winning, is losing and being boring while losing which is the trademark of the herm edwards years..

by CALIFAN1986 on Sep 7, 2009 11:20 PM CDT up reply actions

Lol

Well…i honestly think croyle would play better, passing wise, than thigpen…but thigpen would be able to get away from the pressure more…so idk. I wish the best of luck for him..hell i would love for him to prove me wrong! i just dont know if he can…

by Wrestler189s on Sep 7, 2009 11:27 PM CDT up reply actions

Lots of screen passes maybe...?

Lol…I have no idea how we have a chance…

but there is always the fact that you can never tell how a team will perform from one season to the next…We thought we had no chance with our offense against NE’s D last year but that wasn’t as big of a challenge as it was thought to be…(Still lost, but you know what I mean)

I think they will find ways to move the ball no matter who is the QB.

The Ravens defense is very good, one of the best even but, they’re not invincible. As long as Haley spreads the defense out by threatening them with a deep pass early and runs the ball consistently, we should be able to keep them loose…It will be ALL about mixing up the plays.

If they jump on the scoreboard early and we have to play catch up, then we are in trouble.

Also...Did you guys hear about Shawn Merriman? Haha

sucks for him! But honestly i dont think he did it…his gf is a straight up whore and just wants attention. And is there any word on the Chiefs and Tyree, besides us just looking at him?

Merriman in Jail for being too kinky

should be the headline.

Prediction: Tamba gets 10 sacks this year.

i did too but if he gets charged then SDs defense will be like last years…no merriman!

Maybe.

He is a first time offender of the conduct stuff…so i duno how much would be done to him…

At worst this...

is causing the Ravens to have to gameplan for Cassell and Croyle and how we would play call for each a little different.

by WesternChief on Sep 7, 2009 10:46 PM CDT reply actions

the fact he was out there

speaks volumes

why not make them gameplan against croyle, or even thigpen, they dont know who could start…regardless

I still see Cassel starting, just the way he is.

by SDChief on Sep 7, 2009 11:50 PM CDT reply actions

I saw some footage of him in practice today on local TV sports.

He had his knee brace on, but his movement looked smooth and unhindered. He was taking balls from the coach and then dropping back and throwing passes on that leg. That of course doesn’t account for any lateral movement. He was probably moving gingerly because he wasn’t sure how his knee would react. I’m not saying he looked good to go against Baltimore. Mike Lombardi is probably right about the 50/50. He may not start against the Ravens but imo will be starting against the Faiders.

Yeah, let's just keep matriculatin' the ball down the field, boys! ...

He should start. If he can take the heat from Baltimore,

he can do anything.

Lombardi is just making stuff up

Who told him it is a 50/50 chance? Cassel? Haley? No one! He just heard Cassel practiced “gingerly” and decided it was a 5050 chance. What a bunch of BS. That is why I like coming to AP and getting my news here. Here we get the story straight. We hear what happened at practice and we make up our own minds. Unless on of the brass said 50/50 it isn’t 5050 it just is what it is.

These guys will do anything to make it look like they are breaking news. The real news is right here on AP.

If he's practicing, 50/50 is probably about right.

I am really torn on this. On one hand I want him to play but, on the other hand, I don’t want him to have an aggravated injury that lingers for the whole season either. I know we will be better with him on the field but, I just don’t know.

Let the Doctors decide.

by Chiefsfan1970 on Sep 8, 2009 9:23 AM CDT reply actions

No one knows what "percentage" he is and never will....

….Look at Tom Brady the last, what decade, he is ALWAYS listed as questionable…. until last year anyway. Cassel could be running suicides for all we know, Pioli and Co. will always keep things on the down low. Makes them mysterious.

Leave the gun. Take the cannoli.

by BigRedChief on Sep 8, 2009 9:49 AM CDT reply actions

interesting though

Maybe his knee is fine and the had him bait the media in practice. They are only allowed to watch 20 minutes or so right? Maybe they had him taking it super easy so that the media would obviously see it…if the Ravens think Cassel can’t run they might be alittle more bold with their scheme thus allowing Matt to take them by surprise.

Probably not but I like it better than Cassel really being hurt. =)

I thought exactly the same thing...maybe

But, then I thought, what if they did the opposite and put him out there to make people think he could play? I hope not
